Dear Neighbors,
On behalf of the Hampton Hall Community Foundation,
thank you very much for your participation in the snack food
drive for Chris Wilson who was deployed to Afghanistan in September.
Thanks to your generosity, we collected over 35 grocery bags of snack
foods plus a 22 pound box of snacks shipped directly from Kelloggs of
Battle Creek (courtesy of a generous neighbor.) The foods were
boxed up and shipped to Afghanistan this week where they will be
enjoyed by Chris and his fellow airmen. The photo below shows the
collected snacks with Debbie Wilson, her three children – Audrey,
Ava, and Nickolas, and Karen Cullen and Bob Koenig, who
coordinated the food drive for the Foundation.
Chris is a 23-year veteran pilot whose
home base is Hunter Army Airfield in
Savannah. He is currently stationed in
Kandahar, Afghanistan where he flies
daily surveillance missions in a modified
Super King Air known as a RC-12N. A
similar plane is shown in the photo below.
Debbie asked us to convey her thanks to you all for your generosity.
Please remember to keep Chris and his fellow servicemen and women
in your prayers.
Regards,
85 Club Members attended the community’s first
professionals and related services to answer
questions and provide information. A
representative of the Bluffton Township Fire District
provided a demonstration on the use of portable
defibrillators. The attendees enjoyed a tasty
assortment of baked goods and refreshments and
Fitness Tip
By Bonnie Price, Fitness Director
Why is Massage Therapy Important today?
In our hustle and bustle world, stress is all around us. We sit for hours
in front of our computers, televisions or in cars, and do repetitive
movements that overuse our hands. Tension knots show up in the
neck, upper back and shoulders and no amount of stretching or
working out will get rid of it. Massage therapy is a method of
stretching and applying pressure to these areas to relieve the pain
and also to increase the flow of blood into the tissue, removing all
the toxins that have become embedded due to all that we
encounter in our daily lives through the air we breath, the water
we drink and the food we eat.
Come meet our new massage therapist Laurie Holmes and feel
the benefits that a massage can offer. Laurie has worked
extensively on all types of athletes and injury cases and has
even worked on babies and small children. She has also become
adept at energy balance and cranial sacral work which she incorporates
into her customized programs. She is available 6 days a
week so call 843-815-8740 or 954-439-1786 and make your appointment
today.
Tennis Talk
By: Rich Swartzwelder
The fall tennis USTA season ended with the 3.5 super senior
men’s 70 team going 5-0 before losing in the playoffs. The 3.5
super senior men’s 60 team finished at 2-7. The inter-club
season has started with the men’s 3.0 team at 0-1 and the 3.5
men’s team at 0-2.
The big news is the ladies’ Colleton
River~Hampton Hall inter-club team has
finished their season undefeated with a
spotless record of 11-0. This very strong team
was led by captains Aileen Dorfman and Mary
Ellen Laster. Congratulations, ladies!
The courts are looking very good. Please remember to brush
the courts after use.
A 2011 Tennis Advisory Board ran unopposed and presents a
very strong lineup to head the tennis program in 2011. The
new board members are the following:
Chair ~ Tammy Winslow
Vice Chair ~ Mary Ellen Laster (2012 chair)
Member-at-Large ~ Tisha Chafer (2 years)
Member-at-Large ~ Aileen Dorfman (1 year)
Member-at-Large ~ Mike Ehlen (1 year)
Congratulations and best wishes to all the members of the 2011
board.
The new board members will be welcomed at the Annual
Community Tennis Meeting on Wednesday, December 8, 2010
from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM in the Community Clubhouse’s
Pinckney Room. All tennis enthusiasts should plan on attending
this meeting.
My last two years as the chairman of the tennis advisory board
have been very rewarding. The Hampton Hall tennis program
has grown from one men’s team to about a dozen teams this
year. The tennis mailing list has 80 players of all ages. We
have structure now to our growing tennis organization and a
dialog with Hampton Hall management. Rules have been put
in place. The conditions of the tennis courts have improved
dramatically. Some nice functional additions have improved
the look and feel of the tennis facility that includes the shed,
instructional signs on the court gates, a tennis information
board, a ball machine, a drinking fountain, bleachers and a
gazebo. I’ve totally enjoyed being the point person for our
tennis program. Thanks to everyone who have helped support
the growth of tennis at Hampton Hall.
By Alan Prenoveau,
Men’s Golf Society
Your new Board has hit the ground running and making
excellent progress on a variety of fronts. One of the things
we’ve agreed is that everything (programs, procedures, etc.)
needs to be reviewed periodically and there are a couple of
things we’ll be focusing on immediately. Among them are
how we staff the Tournament Committee, Inter-Club play,
how we publish this year’s handbook, the Hole-in-One
program, and our annual January meeting.
Staffing the Tournament Committee
Our intent this year is for the Tournament Committee to be
made up of the heads of each major tournament and Rod
Carlson, our MGS Golf Director. Then the head of each
tournament will create his team of volunteers to actually
plan, coordinate, and run each event. Rod is working hard to
solicit volunteers to head up each of this year’s major events.
We welcome anyone interested in chairing a tournament or
working on one of the tournament teams.
Inter-Club Play
The HHMGS will assume responsibility for coordinating
Hampton Hall’s participating in the Inter-Club activity.
Dennis Cavner and Bob Doerr are our co-captains for this
activity. There will be an informational meeting December 9,
2010 for those interested in participating.
Hole-in-One Program
Mary Claire, Terrence, and the entire Club staff do a great job
of supporting the Hole-in-One parties but several
Members are used to this type of program being structured
differently. Dennis Cavner and George Ragland have been
tasked with reviewing our current program, recommending
options for modifying the program, and discussing these
options with the HHLGS.
Handbook Publication
Rod and I sat down with Gary Otto and LGS officers to agree
and confirm this year’s golf calendar. And, we also agreed to
publish one common handbook with the intent of having one
comprehensive calendar of events that includes HHMGS,
HHLGS, and outside events as well as dates for course
maintenance activity. Mark Larson will coordinate with the
LGS to publish this handbook in January.
Annual January Kickoff Meeting
George Ragland and Don Rolston have already locked down
January 15 and the menu for this event. Breakfast will be
followed by a shotgun shambles event. Mark this on your
calendars. It was a great time last year. And, as always, if
anyone (HHMGS member or otherwise) would like to discuss
how we could improve the Society and its impact on the
Hampton Hall golfing experience, please reach out to me or
any of the other Board members. We’d appreciate hearing
from you. See you on the links!
By Jenny McCord,
Ladies’ Golf Society
During the month of November, the Board worked
diligently to appoint the 2011 committee and events
chair persons. At this posting, the calendar for the
upcoming year will be a combined effort between the
men’s and ladies’ golf societies. The plan is to have the
books available for everyone in January. Also, the
committees and events along with the heads of
each will be posted in the ladies locker room with the
participants listed. If you are interested in any of these,
please contact the appropriate head of that committee.
The Board has also appointed a By-Laws committee to
review the current by-laws and play day guidelines for
update and revision. This will be presented in the
upcoming year.
Congratulations and welcome to our newest members
of the ladies golf society. Diane Tull, Debbie Belanger,
and Charlene Jones recently joined our group. We look
forward to sharing some great rounds of golf here at
our wonderful course.
Don’t forget to sign up for the Holly Scramble and the
Mixed Holiday Event coming up early in December.
It’s been a great year so far and we look forward to all
