May 2003 we could
invite almost all our
partners to Hamm.
Unfortunately, our friends from
China could not take part because
of SARS, our partners from Poland
because of illness.
No matter if from South Africa
or Sweden, USA or Russia – we
could start in time on Thursday
evening.
Even this welcome-night under
the motto: Get together was a
great success - and this was
not only because of the excellent
cuisine!

Politicians talk and
talk... – without
any understanding
for our situation –
without the will to
a feasible solution.
Tax reform is possible, later,
because the general conditions
are not yet correct... – when,
when will they finally be
correct?
Regarding that point, we
medium-size companies,
managers – we, the responsible
people – we offer more.
Clearly arranged, faster and above all
more informative – that was the objective
for the redesign of the previous internet
presentation.
The headings „Industry" and „Trade“
enable the respective user to call extensive
product information. In addition, both
headings offer information about our direct
magazine lacktuell, on-line-order of information
leaflets and hints & tricks like FAQ´s,
encyclopaedia and surface mistakes.
The sector „The enterprise“ gives
information about partners including the
corresponding linkings as well as jobs and
fair data, but now even data of reference
objects. The Hesse-logistics, the franchisesystem
Paint Express and linkings to related
industries will be found under the sector
„and others“.
The development of our B2B-customer's
sector offers a high transparency of the
order and delivery information.
At the same time you will get a price
survey of products you have bought
before and an actual statistical survey of
your sales. The printing of actual safety
data sheets and technical information
sheets usefully completes the customer's
sector.
Please read up on our customer's sector by
using our free demonstration ingress.
The changed, more user-friendly
navigation system enables the immediate,
easy access to the steadily growing
information system internet. As an
additional guideline, the user will now
find a corresponding navigation bar on
the right side as well.
As an information platform of Hesse-
Lignal and her activities, the internet
presentation will permanently grow.
We are talking with each other
– not about one another – with
you as our customers, with our
suppliers, our employees and
with our international partners.
We compare notes, mutually
help us and we try to understand
each other.
Time just flies!
On 1st April 2003, Mr. Willi Hellmann,
authorized signatory and technical
manager, celebrated his 40-year's
anniversary at the company Hesse.
During these 40 years, there were so
many problems to solve in order to help
the company to get her today's importance
on the market – in every position, as head
of the laboratory, as technical manager of
the Lignal Ltd., or in his today's position.
We wish Mr. Hellmann a great time with
us and after that all the time of the world!
Many thanks for all.

decision and the activity

Interzum 2003
More design,
more innovation,
more class...
Good mood on the Interzum fair at
Cologne!
Wolfgang Kranz, member of the
management board of the Kölnmesse,
sums up the result of this year's interzum
cologne with the phrase „More design,
more innovation, more class“.
The world's biggest fair for the furniture
production and interior completion
attracted 54.000 visitors from 130
countries. In spite of the difficult
circumstances, the deciding and
relevant customers of this industrial
sector were almost completely present.
The subject of the joint presentation was:
„Innovative surface coatings“.
The use of waterbased wood lacquers as
an alternative against solvent-containing
systems has been perfectly presented to
the visitors by three experts.

The interzum cologne will open her
doors from 29th of April until 3rd of
May 2004, again.

The chronicle of a long-term success 93 years
Lignal Lacquers + Stains from Hesse
1910 the cousins Fritz and Karl Hesse established in the
Langestrasse, in the west of Hamm, a factory for lacquers
and stains. Right from the start, the small company
gathered recognition and honours:
1912 at Bielefeld
1913 at Paderborn
1914 at Hagen
Even the 1. golden medal from the chamber of handicrafts
went to Hamm.
1910-2003

More than 90 years later, the family business, meanwhile
situated in Hamm Bockum-Hövel, became established as
the market leader in Germany and as
one of the three biggest producers of lacquers and stains in
Europe. Many more than 500 people are employed at
home and abroad.

The three managers of Hesse GmbH & Co., all of them
members of the family, are managing the company for
three, respectively four generations now.
Busy activities on the factory yard

Today's owners still stick to the product range, which was
successful for the company's founders right from the start.
The range just became more wide and polished – always
considering the environmental care.
A most modern production facility, largely self-planned, -
built and -installed, makes it possible to produce more
than 100 tons of lacquers and stains a day, based on about
40.000 recipes. These products are for industrial as well
as for the handicraft application. The share of solvent-free
and environment-oriented qualities is growing more and
more. The permanent further development of existing
solvent systems concerning safety and economy is an
important matter of the company.

Right from the start – research for the
future in the experimental.
In recent years, the Hesse-group has set many standards.
A tight sales network guarantees competent local contacts.
Permanent trainings for all employees and customers are
a matter of course. Additionally, in the past years, the
Hesse Franchise-concept Paint-Express has enabled about
20 partners to make a leap into independence and this
way it increased the presence of the company.
Hesse even today speaks about pointing the way for 2007:
Modern product solutions in a more modern company
with motivated employees, who are not catched by
so-called economic outlooks – this is the motto of the
Hesse-LIGNAL management.

Of course, all Hesse-employees have
drawn up their reports in English and they
even made the subsequent discussions in
English, as well.
That was great!
The first part was dealing with questions
regarding the subjects: Internet, new
product sectors and their marketing as
well as training concepts.
The second day was completely reserved
for technique.
New production facilities and computer
support were presented and discussed.
In the research and development centre
new coating and drying aggregates were
presented.
Modern methods for analysis have been
discussed and demonstrated.

The day was finished with a detailed
discussion regarding the world-wide
procurement of raw materials.
But the pleasant part of the meeting
got the right attention, as well.
Right from the start, there was a
relaxed atmosphere, making many
interesting and close talks possible.
Before saying goodbye, the partners
agreed on cooperations in the most
different projects and on a reunion in
two years at the latest.
We hope that all partners can take
part safe and without crisis, then.
Even today I am looking forward to
a healthy and happy reunion.
