Welcome

Welcome

A Message from the Director:

It’s hard to believe we’re already starting a new year, when we don’t quite understand where the old one went! But thinking

back over 2011, we realize that much was accomplished, often in partnership with others. We are grateful that people and

organizations step forward to ask, “What can we accomplish together?”

Some Highlights from 2011 ―

Opening of new leg of the South Tar Greenway . . . Major Tennis Tournaments hosted with significant economic impact . . . New

departmental logo adopted . . . Enduring and recovering from Hurricane Irene . . . Capital Improvements at Greenfield Terrace

Park . . . Renovations of Elm Street Gym into Drew Steele Center underway. . . Aquatics and Fitness Center gym air conditioned . . .

Memorial plaque installed at Beatrice Maye Garden Park, and various awards and recognitions received by staff and the programs

they developed.

Recently we announced the development of Greenville’s “Partners for Parks,” a non-profit coalition of “friends of the park” type

groups. Ultimately, we hope to have a “friends group” for every park and major facility in our system, each a chapter within the

overall PFP organization, and each a non-profit through their affiliation with PFP. The organization has been incorporated and we’re

in the midst of establishing the PFP board. Watch for more details.

Take the time to review the contents of this brochure, and find a way or two to stay active!
