South Stokes Sauras roll past Vikings 7-1 in soccer
Staff Report
Jacob Lester recorded a
hat trick as South Stokes
defeated county rival
North Stokes in Northwest
1A/2A Conference soccer
last week in Walnut Cove.
Lester struck for three
goals for the Sauras, who
also had scores from Will
Sands, Andrew Martin,
Dillon King and James
Windham.
Austin Helms scored
the lone goals for the
Vikings on a penalty kick.
The Sauras had a date
at home with Bishop
McGuinness scheduled for
Tuesday with three games
on tap for next week – at
East Surry, Mount Airy
and West Stokes.
The Wildcats (4-3-0, 1-0-
0) were coming off a 5-0
victory against North Surry.
Scoring for West in the
win were Mason Eggers
(two), Thomas Hawkins
(goal, assist), Austin Snow
(goal, assist) and Matt
Hopper.
Goalie Jalyn Rice got
the shutout.
West has Mount Airy on
the road Thursday and will
take on East Surry and
South Stokes next week.

Hemlock HGA Club Championship results
The annual Hemlock HGA Club Championship
was held on Aug. 28 and 29.
Winners were as follows: Bradley James
(Club Champion), Larry Southern (Senior
Division) and Daniel Watts (Handicap Division).
Winners of the Weekly Jack and Jill on
Aug. 28 were Marcia Burge and Phillip
Whitaker. second place was Kris Kiser
and Pam Pearson. Tied for third was Kelly
Berry and Cole Green and Ethan Pearson
and Morgan. Closest to the pin winners
were Kris Kiser and Marcia Burge.
The Jack and Jill is played each Saturday
afternoon at 4:30 p.m. Come out and join
the fun.
On Aug. 31, winners of the weekly captains
choice were Wes Stevens, Mike Lawson,
David Alley and Dewey White. Closest
to the pin winners were Brad Dunlap
and Teddy Webster.
Winners of the Weekly Hemlock Jack
and Jill on Sept. 4 were Bo Bibey and
Meghan Mabe. Finishing second was Kris
Kiser and Pam Pearson. Third place went
to Timmy and Bobbi Jo Mabe. Closest to
the pin winners were Kris Kiser and Pam

South Stokes swept in-county rival
West Stokes in Northwest 1A/2A Conference
volleyball last week.
The Sauras won 25-17, 25-19, 25-23.
South was 4-0 in the conference and
7-3 in the league after the win – also
beating North Stokes 25-22, 19-25, 25-
17, 20-25, 15-12 in Danbury, as well as
East Surry and Mount Airy.
