The Sunflower State Games is a statewide amateur sports 

festival for all Kansans. The purpose of the Games is to 

provide top-quality amateur competition in a wide range of 

activities and promote physical fitness, personal health and 

well-being for Kansans of all ages and skill levels. 2013 

marks the 24th Anniversary of this Olympic style competition. 

We are honored to work with the USTA and its members 

in hosting this sanctioned tournament. We look forward 

to seeing you at the Games! All participants receive T-shirt 

and promo bag. Medals awarded to finalists and third place 

finishers in each event. The 2013 Sunflower State Games is 

a qualifying event for the 2015 State Games of America. 

Please remember that the format of this tournament is "First 

Match Loser Consolation." This means that you only go to 

the consolation bracket if you lose your first round. If you 

win your first and lose your second, you are eliminated unless 

your loss comes in the semifinals. .

With the increased size of this event, several changes will happen, 

most notably: 1) Juniors will play primarily Friday and possibly 

Saturday, depending on draw size-be prepared for a two-day 

event. 2) All matches will be best 2 of 3 sets with a match tiebreaker 

in lieu of the 3rd set. 3) Adult play will happen Saturday 

and Sunday, with some matches possibly scheduled on Friday 

evening (depending on draw sizes) Tournament play will be at 

Kossover Tennis Center. Please check in there at least 15 

minutes prior to your first match. Entry fee is 15.00 for singles, 

20.00 per doubles team. Please check brackets carefully for start 

times (SOME PLAY WILL BEGIN AT 8:00 AM). Players should 

be prepared to play more than three matches if the brackets 

require. If you have questions, please call or email. Kossover 

Tennis Center is located at 25th and Gage PLEASE NOTE: On 

events that are too big to play a round-robin, we will utilize the 

FIRST MATCH LOSER CONSOLATION format, in which players 

will be guaranteed 2 matches and will only go to the consolation 

(backside) if the lose their FIRST match.

The Sunflower State Games is a statewide amateur sports festival 

for all Kansans. The purpose of the Games is to provide topquality 

amateur competition in a wide range of activities and promote 

physical fitness, personal health and well-being for Kansans 

of all ages and skill levels. 2013 marks the 24th Anniversary of this 

Olympic style competition. We are honored to work with the USTA 

and its members in hosting this sanctioned tournament. We look 

forward to seeing you at the Games! All participants receive T- 

shirt and promo bag. Medals awarded to finalists and third place 

finishers in each event. The 2013 Sunflower State Games is a 

qualifying event for the 2015 State Games of America. Please 

remember that the format of this tournament is "First Match Loser 

Consolation." This means that you only go to the consolation 

bracket if you lose your first round. If you win your first and lose 

your second, you are eliminated unless your loss comes in the 

semifinals. Some doubles notes....We will combine all father-son 

and mother-daughter doubles entries into the parent-child bracket. 

This event has become popular and features parents and children 

of all ability levels. It is a great opportunity to play tennis as a 

family! Mixed doubles entries will be placed in the NTRP Combined 

divisions so that tournament play can reflect Kansas District 

League play.

Kansas District Team Tennis Championships

General Explanation: This is a team event with two divisions - 

Middle School and High School. If you will be enrolled in Middle 

School in the fall of 2013 you must play that age division and 

cannot play up. You must be enrolled in grades 9-12 in the fall of 

2013 to be eligible for the high school division. There is a limit of 

8 teams per division. Team Selection: Limited to the first 8 teams 

in each division with a paid entry. There will be a wait list and 

those not accepted will have the fee refunded. There are no 

refunds for withdrawing after June 25 unless another team is 

found to replace yours. Team Requirements: Each team must 

have an adult coach. Each match will require 4 boys and 4 girls 

with play in boys singles, girls singles, boys doubles, girls doubles 

and mixed doubles. Complete rules will be sent upon request 

by contacting janiebremyer@yahoo.com Divisions: The 

Middle School division will be played on Monday, July 1 and the 

High School division will be played on Tuesday July 2. The tournament 

will be held at Maize South High School (11600 W 45th 

Street North). Entry Fee: $50 per team. Send a check to Janie 

Bremyer, 1509 Heritage Place, McPherson, KS by June 25, 

2013, indicating the division/s your are entering. You will need to 

have 4 boys and 4 girls minimum available to play the day of the 

tournament. There is no maximum on the number of players you 

may have on your team but only 4 boys and 4 girls will play each

check. Start time: There will be a coach's meeting at 8:00 and 

play will begin at 8:30. Awards: There will be team trophies for

The Topeka Junior Open will now feature adult brackets as well, 

hence the name change to the Topeka Open. With the increased 

size of this event, several changes will happen, most notably: 1) 

Juniors will play primarily Friday and possibly Saturday, depending 

on draw size-be prepared for a two-day event. 2) All matches 

will be best 2 of 3 sets with a match tiebreaker in lieu of the 3rd 

set. 3) Adult play will happen Saturday and Sunday, with some 

matches possibly scheduled on Friday evening (depending on 

draw sizes). Tournament play will be at Kossover Tennis Center. 

Please check in there at least 15 minutes prior to your first match. 

Entry fee is 15.00 for singles, 20.00 per doubles team. Please 

check brackets carefully for start times (SOME PLAY WILL 

BEGIN AT 8:00 AM). Players should be prepared to play more 

than three matches if the brackets require. If you have questions, 

please call or email. Kossover Tennis Center is located at 25th 

and Gage PLEASE NOTE: On events that are too big to play a

2013 Adult Ranking Rules 

1. Player must be a resident of the state of Kansas, a 

member of an armed forces family stationed in Kansas, 

a non-citizen holding a green-card, or a student 

who attends a Kansas school and maintains a Kansas 

District residence on their USTA membership. 

2. Players must present a current USTA membership 

card, or new membership proof, prior to entry into 

Kansas District sanctioned tournaments. 

3. The USTA computer ranking system of points per 

round reached is used by the Kansas District for 

ranking procedures. This system allows for additional 

ranking point to be awarded for more participation 

by a player, as well as for participation in heavier 

weighted tournaments. 

4. The ranking committee will determine which tournaments 

will be weighted heavier for ranking purposes. 

Additional points will be awarded for participation 

in one of these tournaments: Mid-Continent 

Open and the Topeka Jayhawk Open. 

5. To be ranked in singles, players must play a minimum 

of two tournaments sanctioned by the Kansas 

District. 

6. To be ranked in doubles, players must play at least 

two tournaments sanctioned by the Kansas District 

with the same partner. 

7. Players must have a minimum of one win in the 

event they wish to be considered in for a ranking. 

The best FOUR results for Kansas District tournaments 

will be used for KDTA Adult Tournament rankings. 

8. If a player is NTRP rated, they may not participate or 

be ranked in a level lower than their NTRP rating. 

9. If a player enters a tournament but find they will not 

be able to participate, they must notify the tournament 

director at least one day prior to tournament 

start. Entering of a tournament as a no-show will not 

count positively towards the requirement of participation 

for rankings. 

10. Any discrepancies involving ranking will be handled 

by the ranking committee.
