The Club’s crest & bulletin name reflect ‘Odin’ (Anglo-Saxon ‘Woden’), the ancient Nordic God of Wisdom.

Odin had two ravens called Hugin and Munin (Thought and Memory) who flew forth every day

and returned at night to tell him what they had seen, so contributing to his wisdom.

The NYSF program consists of a mix of scientific, formal, personal development,

and social activities. These range from laboratory visits to sports evenings

and from a bush dance to group dynamics.

The program is run by students from the previous year’s NYSF, who have

been planning and improving the forum over the course of the previous year.

These are the NYSF staff and will either have just finished year 12, or first year

university. These people will never tell a student what to do, but may make

hints in that direction.

Phil Ibbotson attended the Bush Dance as a representative of the

Woden Rotary Club. The band “Paverty” led by his son-in-law Bob

Buckley entertained those who attended. The night was about raising

money and support for people living with a disability. The music and

dancing was enjoyed by many including those living with a disability. Luke

who has Cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair. Molly who as a result of an

operation for a tumour in her brain when she was 15 is unable to use

anything on her right side. Lee, Ronny and Kieran who have varying

degrees of Autism, and Judy who has the onset of dementia.

As Rotarians we all encourage and support the work organization’s like

the Frewin Centre do to endure a high quality of life for those with special

needs. It was great to hear from Phil that so many enjoyed a wonderful

night.
