RESPECT BOGOSI FOR SUSTENANCE Kgosi Seepapitso IV of Bangwaketse advised Batswana to respect Bogosi institution so that it does not die a natural death. He said Bogosi was an integral part of Setswana culture and when it collapses, traditional leadership loses the respect of the people. He encouraged Batswana to always support their dikgosi so that they carry out their work effectively. He said these encouraging words during the installation of the Batlokwa Paramount chief, Kgosi Puso Gaborone. Kgosi Seepapitso IV who is also the chairperson of Ntlo ya Dikgosi said dikgosi should be given respect they deserve as they have played and continue to play an important role in promoting peace and stability in this country. He showed a concern on how some people were undermining Bogosi institution and encouraged all to preserve culture and the status of Bogosi, adding that it was the foundation of democracy. In addition, he advised all traditional leaders to lead and treat their people equally and listen to their advise where needed. Kgosi Seepapitso IV urged Batswana to support their dikgosi so that Botswana continues to enjoy its stability. He said their fore fathers left Bogosi institution for the people as a heritage because they had vision and urged all to respect it for sustenance. Kgosi Seepapitso IV applauded the government for bringing developments to where Batswana are more especially at rural areas. Kgosi Seepapitso IV advised Batlokwa Kgosi Puso Gaborone to address issues of land shortage urgently and work hand in hand with his people. For his part Kgosi Puso Gaborone thanked Batswana and in particular, Batlokwa, locally for trusting him with the responsibility to rule them, and making the day a success. He urged his people to guide and advise Kgosi Gaborone where he goes wrong, adding that his aim was to preserve Batlokwa culture and keep them united. In his oath of allegiance in front of the gathering Kgosi Puso Gaborone promised all to follow his father’s vision and continue where he left. He also thanked Batlokwa and said that through cooperation, good spirit and unity they could overcome all the challenges they face as the Batlokwa community. Kgosi Puso said the selling of land in Tlokweng is a major concern as they spent more time settling land disputes among people who sold land without consulting Bogosi. He warned and caution those to desist from doing that as lawful action would be taken against them if the situation worsen. According to Batlokwa’s history Kgosi Puso Gaborone is the sixth kgosi of Batlokwa. He succeeded his father, the late Kgosi Moshibidu, who died in November 2005. By Mmolawa Phuthego
