Glacier Symphony and Chorale announces 2011 Scholarship Winners

Four budding musicians were awarded music scholarships by the Glacier Symphony and Chorale

to further their love of music and assist their musical careers. BJ Carlson, GSC’s past board chair

and co-chair of the Education Committee, presented the cash awards to the students.

Breanna Barnes will be a senior at Whitefish High School next year and is a multi-instrument

musician performing piano, violin, viola and oboe. In addition to playing in some concerts the

last two years with the Glacier Symphony and Chorale, Barnes was chosen to be a part of the

All-State Orchestra the last two years and was selected to be in the All-Northwest orchestra in

Seattle this year. She will receive a full scholarship to Camp Festival Amadeus this summer.

Flynn Hartley is a violinist from Kila. The scholarship monies she has been awarded will be used

to further her music education as a freshman at Flathead Valley Community College. Flynn has

played with the Glacier Symphony and Chorale and she and her sister have formed a quartet with

Jessica Wambeke and Jessica's sister to play in nursing homes.

Jessica Wambeke will be receiving full tuition to the North Valley Music School piano camp and

2011 Camp Festival Amadeus. Jessica is a senior and a member of a family well known in this

valley for musical performance. Her grandmother, Betty Lou Wambeke is one of the founders of

North Valley Music School. Jessica plays both cello and piano and has played in performances

with the Glacier Symphony and Chorale as well as the Whitefish Community Orchestra, and

several theater productions.

Annabel Yates will receive a full scholarship for the North Valley Music School piano camp as

well as scholarship for private lessons. She plays viola, piano, and percussion and has played

with the Glacier Symphony and Chorale for three seasons. Additionally Annabel has played with

the Whitefish Community Orchestra. She plans to continue playing with the symphony next

season while she attends Flathead Valley Community College as a freshman.

Annabel Yates accepts a scholarship award from B.J. Carlson and the Glacier Symphony and

Chorale. She will use the funds to attend North Valley Music School's Camp Festival Amadeus in

Whitefish this summer. Four young musicians were awarded scholarships at the GSC's April

concert.
