HEF ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Anita M. Floyd
Athough it has been a tough financial year, Hanover
County Public Schools still has had a great year. The
economy has had a severe impact upon the funding
sources for Hanover County Public Schools and all school
divisions. Budgets have been reduced sharply. All of the
school employees have worked to have a very successful
year in the face of these budget cuts. The need for the Hanover Education Foundation,
however, is greater than ever. Our HEF sponsors and Board members have been
fantastic this year, and we appreciate all of the gifts in the form of dollars and hard work.
I would like to thank the generosity of the many contributors listed in this
publication, as we would not be able to support Hanover County Public Schools without
them. We also really appreciate the hard work of the Board members. In particular,
I would like to recognize the Board members whose terms have ended this year. They
are William E. Martin, Jr., William W. Johnston and John J. Leber. A special THANK
YOU goes to Marty Martin for the great work he has done serving as Finance Chairman
for the last three years. During his term, Marty was an invaluable steward for the funds
entrusted to the HEF.
News for 2009 – 2010:
• The Foundation raised over 246,000 in revenues and pledges.
• The Foundation gave $55,000 in scholarships to 37 Hanover County students.
• The Foundation awarded $16,500 to fund grants and assist teachers in the classroom
thanks to Altria and Bank of America.
• For the third year in a row, Michael Patrick, General Manager of Patrick Pontiac Buick
GMC, presented George Herring, Hanover Teacher of the Year, with the use of a new
vehicle for one year also covering the maintenance and the insurance. This gift is a
great example of the support from a community business relationship that has been
cultivated with the Foundation.
• The Verizon Foundation gave $24,750 to be used to support the Reading Olympics.
I look forward to another great year with the HEF.
