THERAPEUTIC RECREATION PROGRAMS 

The Commission is currently a participant in a regionalized 

program aimed at providing recreational services to 

handicapped individuals from various communities. This 

unique approach has developed into a year-round coordination 

of programs. For registration information call the Therapeutic 

Recreation Services Office 526-5650, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm., 

Monday through Friday. 

GENERAL POLICIES 

Supervision: 

Parents or Guardians of minors are responsible for dropping 

off and picking up children PROMPTLY. Parent or Guardian 

are to pick up their child in the building where the program is 

being held. 

Eligibility: 

All township residents are eligible to participate in all 

programs. Non-residents may participate if there is room in 

the program and an additional fee is added to the program.

All volunteer coaches must be certified with the 

adopted certification program of the Recreation 

Commission. (Rutgers Certification) and must

Adult Beginner/intermediate lessons: 

Intended For beginners and intermediate players. Learn a great lifetime sport. Five condensed lessons covering all aspects of 

the game. You’ll learn what you need to practice and develop your game. All you need is a racket. If you have never played, 

have not had lessons, have not played tennis in recent years or took lessons last summer and are to take the next step to playing 

matches. This class will help you build a love for the game or re-kindle the challenges that attracted you to the sport in the first 

place.

instruction and drills that will leave you anxious to get out to the court and practice!

For players with advanced skills (3.0 or better). These Students should have the ability to play a match, have mastery of basic skills, and

workout so bring water! The first session will be an evaluation class, in addition to the lesson. Players will be grouped into appropriate skill

class. All students will be required to have a racket. If you do not have a racket, Demo racket will be available to try. Friday rain date.

FALL RECREATION SOCCER 

K-2nd Grade 

Join us in the co-ed soccer for Kindergarteners to 2nd graders. Our small sided (8v8) format will facilitate more interaction and development. Participants will have the 

opportunity to train once a week. 

Kindergarteners/TP: will play on Saturdays from 

12:30-2:30 

1st/2nd grade: will play on Saturdays from 

9:30-11:30 

All dates will be played at Singley Park for the K-2nd Grade. 

Start date will be Sept. 15th this program will be 10 weeks long. 

3rd-12th Grade 3rd/4th 5th/6th 7 th/ 8th 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th 

Each team will be made up of roughly 14 players per team. All teams will play against other Hillsborough teams. No Carded Players 

Teams will practice on weeknights (based on field assignments) at the Soccer Complex, by the Municipal Building. Games will be played at the Municipal 

Complex. Saturday games are held between 9am and 4pm. 

Coaches are needed for all ages. If a sufficient number of qualified coaches are not available, teams cannot be formed. Coaches that are selected to coach must be 

Rutgers Certified and Background Checked thru www.instantverificationinc.com (Dates will be announced for Rutgers Certification) Late registration is subject to 

availability. 

Fee: $95.00

Spring Peewee Soccer League 

Ages 3-4 years old 

Each Team will be made up of ten players. Teams will play 5 on 5 with substitutions. Each child will 

receive a shirt and socks. No request to be on a team. Games will be played on Saturday Mornings. 

Shin Guards are Mandatory.

HILLSBOROUGH RECREATION SOCCER CAMP 

Come out and get a head start on your soccer skills for the upcoming fall season. Who else is better to learn from than the Hillsborough High School boy’s and girl’s 

soccer coaches? Learn the fundamentals of soccer. This camp will be great for anyone who is just starting Kindergarten and for all players trying to up their skill level. 

The Recreation Soccer Camp is for all players and skill levels. Open to Kindergarten thru 8th grade 

The camp will run the last week of July. 

Held at: Municipal Complex

This summer program runs for four weeks starting July 2 th – July 27 th 2012 and will be held at Auten Road School. The program is open to all band and string 

students entering grades 5-12. Students will receive one forty minute small group lesson and one forty minute ensemble class daily Monday-Friday between the 

hours of 9 a.m. and 11:40 a.m. Classes are scheduled according to experience and ability. Therefore, not all classes begin at 9 a.m. Individual schedules with the 

student’s specific class times will be sent out to you after June 26, 2012. 

You may sign up for any number of weeks – 1, 2, 3, 4 

*Week 1- begins July 2, 2012 (no class July 4 th ) *Week 2- begins July 9, 2012 

*Week 3- begins July 16, 2012 *Week 4- begins July 23, 2012 

PLEASE NOTE! All beginning band students starting an instrument for the first time at summer music camp MUST sign up for a two-week session minimum. 

Also, note that NO BEGINNING STRING INSTRUMENTS will be started at summer camp. This summer music program IS NOT MANDATORY for students entering 

5 th grade bands or string ensembles in September. Class size is limited and requests for specific classes or class times cannot be honored. Also, there is a no refund 

policy in effect due to contractual considerations.

Have fun while learning the fundamentals of girls’ lacrosse. We will focus on basic throwing and catching as well as movement with and 

without the ball. This is a great way to learn the game in a non-competitive environment. This is an introductory and basic skills camp for 

any girls wanting to learn how to play lacrosse. No experience required.

Summertime is right around the corner and with that comes the annual Hillsborough Basketball Camps run by the Hillsborough High School Coaching staff. As we all 

know, the summer months are crucial for players to improve their skills for the upcoming season. For the past 8 summers, I have been running basketball camps and have 

seen the growth and development of campers who have attended, lead to the success of our high school program. I feel that each camper was able to improve his game 

through station work, competitive drills, and live game play. 

This summer, I will be offering 3 different weeks of camp. On a weekly basis each camper will: 

Receive instruction from the Hillsborough High School Coaching Staff, as well as both current and former Varsity Basketball Players 

Develop solid practice habits through involvement in daily “station work” 

Enjoy daily live game play 

Participate in various competitions & daily contests such as “Beat the Buzzer” & “Let’s Make a Deal” 

Receive a free T-Shirt 

I cannot stress enough the importance of your child's involvement in these camps. It will benefit all involved for your child to get to know me and have me get 

to know him as he continues to develop his skills. All of my current JV & Varsity Basketball players at one time or another attended my camps. For those of

Youth Field Hockey Camp 

The Camp will be an instructional camp for beginners to learn the game and skills of field hockey. It will also provide various 

opportunities for experienced players to improve upon their existing field hockey skills. The camp will focus on skill development, 

strength/conditioning, and game play. 

What to Bring.. 

Shoes: sneakers or turf shoes, Water or cold drink, Shin Guards, Mouth Guard, Hockey Stick (please 

email camp director if you need to borrow one for the week.), Small Snack.

S.A.T. PREPARATION 

ATTENTION: RISING HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS AND SENIORS 

Prepare this summer for the fall P.S.A.T. and S.A.T. exams. 

S.A.T. SMART offers affordable, high effective preparation courses at the Hillsborough Municipal Building. Students are 

taught the strategies and skills necessary to reach their potential on these all-important tests. Students take two complete tests 

which are corrected, scored, and each test question is reviewed. Required text, “The Official SAT Study Guide” by College 

Board, is included with the course. Instructor is Susan Alaimo, a high school teacher/counselor and former college professor 

with a Master of Science degree from Columbia University. 

The fee for the 12 hour course, including text, is $295.00

Bridge to Broadway is a new theatre workshop experience offered to children aged 9-13 that offers the chance for pre-teens to get to 

know the world of theatre on a whole new level. They will act, sing, dance, and spend the majority of the 6-week program learning 

about all aspects of theatre. At the end of the program, the students will have the opportunity to perform on stage in an original musical 

revue. 

The producer for this program, Nicole Dvorin, has been involved in numerous theatre productions over the past 6 years. She has also been part of HS Choir, has 

taken singing lessons for the past 3 years, was first place winner of Raider Idol at Hillsborough High School in 2011 (The high school version of American Idol) and 

has been asked to sing the National Anthem at several Hillsborough High School sporting events, and various community events. Nicole was co-producer of the 

3rd annual Music Festival for Hillsborough. She is excited to pass on her knowledge and passion of theatre and singing through this program. 

Stage Manager Jack Tomy has performed in multiple community and school productions for the past 8 years, including Villagers summer theatre workshop 

program. In addition, Jack was stage manager for the 3rd annual Music Festival for Hillsborough, and was a stage manager and assistant stage manager at 

Villager's Playhouse in Somerset. Jack has been a member of the marching band and concert band, and two school choirs. He has also gained a considerable 

amount of knowledge of the theatre from these experiences, which he hopes to pass on through Bridge To Broadway. 

Ages- 9-13 

Place(s) – Rehearsals will be held at the Hillsborough Municipal Building Multi- Purpose Room. 

Production will take place at the annex cafeteria at the Hillsborough Middle School. 

6 Week Program – 5 Consecutive weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting July 10-August 9 at the Hillsborough Municipal building from 6:30pm 

to 9pm. These dates are specifically used for practices and rehearsals. 

Week 6 –Final rehearsal will be held at the Middle School Annex on Friday August 9 th from 6:30 to 9pm. 

Days of Performances- Saturday and Sunday August 18-19 from 2pm-5pm. which are also held at the Middle School Annex.

The focus of our camp is to learn the fundamentals of 

basketball in a fun learning environment. The skills 

focused on are dribbling, passing, shooting form, 

screening, defensive positioning and rebounding. Players 

will also compete in 5 on 5 games and skill competitions. 

Players are asked to dress in athletic clothing, wear 

basketball or running sneakers, and bring a bottle of 

water each day.

Camp director Barrie Foley was a graduate of HHS, has been 

the JV basketball coach for 4 yrs. and is a Physical education 

teacher at HHS. She played 4 years at William Paterson 

University and was an undergraduate assistant for 1 year. 

All of our staff has coached basketball at the middle or high 

school level, and we have an athletic trainer on site in case of
