“This program will give you the freedom
to choose a career path which is more
tailor-made to suit you. The ability to critically assess and
analyse is an essential talent needed in many professions and
I believe this program provides students not only the ‘toolkit’
to do so, but to also to challenge and devise alternatives to
the many problems that we face day-to-day.”
ALEXIA SIMPSON
Graduated from Honours in Development
Studies 2010
Currently working with the Australian
Refugee Association
“When the new program of Development
Studies was introduced halfway through
my degree (2007) I found this to be the
perfect field of enquiry to complement anthropology and
combine everything I was interested in – people, cultures,
society, social justice, poverty and development (and so much
more). I adopted Development Studies as my major in order
to pursue a career that would contribute to significant positive
social change within our world.
“After completing my degree I applied for and was awarded
a Summer Research Scholarship to work as a Research
Assistant with Dr Andrew Rosser, Senior Lecturer in
Development Studies. We wrote a policy brief for the Asia
Research Centre (ARC) on issues concerning ‘ownership’
and ‘aid effectiveness’.”
