CLIODN<br />

Terms of Reference:<br />

• The <strong>Committee</strong> for Liaison with International Organizations and<br />

Developing Nations (CLIODN) advises the International Astronautical<br />

Federation (<strong>IAF</strong>) President and Bureau on opportunities to foster<br />

international cooperation in space programs, to encourage public interest in<br />

astronautics and its application in developing countries and to promote<br />

interest in using space for national development activities. In particular,<br />

the <strong>Committee</strong> considers and recommends steps to stimulate interest in<br />

Federation activities among institutions and individuals from the<br />

developing countries. The <strong>Committee</strong> also provides advice to the<br />

Federation on relations with international governmental as well as nongovernmental<br />

organizations.<br />

• The <strong>Committee</strong> Chair and <strong>Committee</strong> members work closely with the <strong>IAF</strong><br />

Secretariat and with the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs in<br />

supporting approved projects including the annual <strong>UN</strong> report on outer<br />

space activities and the <strong>UN</strong>/<strong>IAF</strong> Workshop held in conjunction with the<br />

International Astronautical Congress.<br />

Terms of Reference:<br />

The <strong>Committee</strong> on Space and Society is a permanent administrative committee of the <strong>IAF</strong>.<br />

As to the functioning, membership and general activities description of the Space and Society committee, the<br />

General Terms of Reference of <strong>IAF</strong> administrative committees apply.<br />

Specifically, the Space and Society committee has been established with the objective to advise the <strong>IAF</strong> on desirable<br />

activities that would:<br />

• increase the understanding and appreciation of the benefits and importance of space activities for the general<br />

Earth population<br />

• enable an open, bi-directional dialogue between the general public, decision makers and actors in the space<br />

domain<br />

• enlist the involvement of the <strong>IAF</strong> member societies as active partners in the above endeavors, being particularly<br />

well placed to bring the various stakeholders together<br />

• enlarge the number of professional member societies of <strong>IAF</strong><br />

• increase the presence of <strong>IAF</strong> through member societies in emerging space countries and in geographical areas<br />

currently poorly covered by <strong>IAF</strong><br />

The SandS shall make recommendations on potential projects and activities that would serve the above<br />

mentioned objectives<br />

The proposed projects shall be detailed into precise tasks, means of execution (workshops, seminars, and study<br />

groups), and means of publication, scheduling and participants.<br />

In defining and implementing such activities, the SandS shall seek active consultation and participation of other<br />

<strong>IAF</strong> committees and on-going activities, in particular related to Education, Young Professionals, the <strong>IAF</strong><br />

website and Congresses and Symposia.<br />

In view of its objectives, the SandS shall consist of members representative of the various stakeholders, with an<br />

emphasis on the <strong>IAF</strong> member societies.<br />

Integrated Applications<br />

Terms of Reference:<br />

The <strong>Committee</strong> on Integrated Applications will cooperate with the relevant<br />

<strong>IAF</strong> <strong>Committee</strong>s (including earth observations, space & natural disasters,<br />

space communications, education and outreach, and space systems) , The<br />

Integrated applications <strong>Committee</strong> will :<br />

• Provide forum to discuss and exchange information in integrated applications activities<br />

among interested organizations inside and outside the space community,<br />

• Maintain informal liaison with relevant international organizations like WHO, <strong>UN</strong>ESCO,<br />

FAO, IAEA etc and regional organizations like the EU, AU, etc.,<br />

• Propose and (if approved) promote in coordination with the <strong>IAF</strong> secretariat <strong>IAF</strong>sponsored<br />

or co-sponsored workshops and seminars relating to Integrated Applications.<br />

• Identify and invite to a dialogue new potential user organizations which are not familiar<br />

with the value added potential of space;<br />

• Propose periodically Symposia/Sessions and Plenary Events on topics relevant to<br />

Integrated Applications<br />

• Working with the <strong>IAF</strong> Space and Society and Industry committees explore and identify<br />

appropriate opportunities to promote large scale dialogue and outreach on the potential of<br />

integrated applications.<br />
