<strong>Module</strong> 7: Personal Protective<br />

Equipment<br />

<strong>Module</strong> Description<br />

This module covers the protective gear used by hazardous materials Technicians. Other factors<br />

related to the use of PPE, such as chemical compatibility, the physiological and psychological<br />

stresses of wearing encapsulated clothing, and maintenance are also addressed.<br />

Prerequisites<br />

• Students should have completed a hazardous materials operations level training program.<br />

• Students should have completed <strong>Module</strong> 3: Health and Safety and <strong>Module</strong> 5: Practical<br />

Chemistry.<br />

• Students must be able to use all the available chemical resources in the jurisdiction. At a<br />

minimum these should include the NAERG, NIOSH Pocket Guide and CHRIS manual.<br />

• Students should understand the major hazards of the nine hazard classes.<br />

• Students must be medically cleared to wear the jurisdiction’s SCBA and to wear encapsulating<br />

Chemical Protective Clothing.<br />
