Made under Clause 5.9 of the Canterbury Local Environment Plan 2012
The objective of the Canterbury Local Environment Plan 2012 (LEP) Clause 5.9 ‘Preservation of trees or vegetation’ is to
preserve the amenity of the area, including biodiversity values, through the preservation of trees and other vegetation. The
LEP is supported by the Canterbury Development Control Plan 2012 (DCP).
The DCP Part 6.7.1(i) states: A person must not ring bark, lop, prune, remove, injure or deliberately destroy any trees 5m
in height or greater and/or with a trunk diameter of 150mm or greater measured 1.4m above ground level without a permit
or development consent granted by the Council.
A number of species are exempt from the LEP. For an exempt species list please go to our website or contact our Tree
Preservation Officer.
INSPECTION FEE
A fee of $75 applies per inspection and must be paid by the applicant on submission of this application.
Multiple trees at one property can be applied for under the one fee.

Any permit for pruning/removal may only be acted upon with the consent of the owner of the tree.
A permit to prune or remove a tree/s is not a directive or an order to the owner of the tree. It does
not authorise the applicant to enter their neighbour's private property without the owner’s consent.
