ICENTRE yesterday organised an idea generation workshop to help would-be Ignite 2012 participants harness their cognitive
ability in order to generate inventive business ideas.
Facilitated by Keith Tan of Creative Nexus Group Singapore, the 'Creative Improvisation for Idea Generation' workshop was
aimed at generating creative ideas amongst participants through various improvisation strategies which Tan employed during
intense groupwork and practical exercises.
"This workshop is all about idea generation. It aims to explore the use of intrinsic capability of our ordinary mental processes
to generate ideas through improvisation," said Tan.
"In other words, I'm teaching the participants how to prime their mind, so that they have the capacity and capability to
generate ideas, and a good one at that," he added.
Tan brought with him to the workshop over 20 years of teaching, training and consulting experience which covers the
disciplinary areas of creative thinking and innovation, among others.
He founded Creative Nexus Group, a multidisciplinary consultancy that embraces an integrated and holistic philosophy of
infusing creativity, entrepreneurship and lifelong learning as a strategy for business success.
"Nothing is going to happen if you just sit and say you want an idea. I think most people who are hard pressed for ideas
encounter that kind of mental block," he said.

In a response to a participant's enquiry about identifying a good or bad business idea, Tan explained, "ideas are by itself
neither good nor bad. it is only when you apply it to a situation or problem or issue, then you will realise whether it is good or
bad, whether it works or doesn't work."
With over 60 people in attendance, the Creative Improvisation workshop was the first Ignite workshop held at
the iCentre following the launch of Ignite 2012 last week.
Speaking with The Brunei Times, Tan said that the techniques learned throughout his workshop would be relevant to Ignite
participants as they can be applied to developing their business plans.
Ignite is an initiative of the Brunei Economic Development Board to motivate local entrepreneurs torealise their ideas in the
field of information and communications technology (ICT) with the opportunity to develop their business ideas and enhance
their creativity.
The grand prize under the competition's ICT open category is $20,000.
Farah Ahmadnawi, PR and Marketing officer in iCentre said iCentre will continue to run more workshops and roadshows to
create awareness and promote the business plan competition until September.
"Interested participants have until October 1 to submit their Executive Summary," Farah added further.
