<strong>Missing</strong> Children<br />
The <strong>International</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Missing</strong> & <strong>Exploited</strong> Children (ICMEC) is leading a global movement<br />
to protect children from sexual exploitation <strong>and</strong> abduction.<br />

The <strong>International</strong> <strong>Centre</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Missing</strong> & <strong>Exploited</strong> Children (ICMEC) works to identify <strong>and</strong> coordinate a<br />
global network of organizations fighting child‐sexual exploitation <strong>and</strong> abduction. ICMEC’s work brings<br />
promise to children <strong>and</strong> families by:<br />
Establishing a global resource to find missing children <strong>and</strong> prevent child sexual exploitation;<br />
Creating national centers <strong>and</strong> affiliates worldwide;<br />
Building an international network to disseminate images of <strong>and</strong> in<strong>for</strong>mation about missing children;<br />
Providing training to law en<strong>for</strong>cement, prosecutors, judges, legal professionals, nongovernmental<br />
organizations, <strong>and</strong> government officials;<br />
Advocating <strong>for</strong> <strong>and</strong> proposing legislative changes to national laws, international treaties, <strong>and</strong> systems<br />
to protect children worldwide;<br />
Conducting international expert conferences to build awareness, encourage, <strong>and</strong> increase cooperation<br />
<strong>and</strong> collaboration between <strong>and</strong> among countries; <strong>and</strong><br />
Working alongside financial industry <strong>and</strong> law en<strong>for</strong>cement to combat commercial child‐sexual<br />
exploitation.<br />
ICMEC offers full‐ <strong>and</strong> part‐time internships each academic semester. All J.D. c<strong>and</strong>idates (1L, 2L, or 3L)<br />
are eligible to apply. Successful applicants will be highly motivated students with excellent research skills<br />
<strong>and</strong> a passion <strong>for</strong> public interest work.<br />
Position Description<br />
Essential Duties <strong>and</strong> Responsibilities<br />
Determine whether national legislation exists in each of the 196 countries with regard missing<br />
children’s legislation initially with a focus on 36 countries;<br />
Analyze the collected data to identify trends <strong>and</strong> common themes <strong>and</strong> find gaps <strong>and</strong> areas which are<br />
insufficiently addressed;<br />
Identify tools that are already in place <strong>and</strong> research other available resources from NGOs <strong>and</strong> other<br />
organizations working on missing children’s issues;<br />
Assist with drafting a Best Practices Guide on creating <strong>and</strong> implementing a national structure <strong>for</strong><br />
locating, investigating, <strong>and</strong> prosecuting missing children’s cases; <strong>and</strong><br />
Undertake special projects <strong>and</strong> assignments as needed.<br />
Experience <strong>and</strong> Qualifications<br />
Commitment to public service required;<br />
Bachelor’s degree required, <strong>and</strong> must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school;<br />
Minimum 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale required;<br />

Excellent research, writing, communication, <strong>and</strong> analytical skills;<br />
Strong Internet‐based research <strong>and</strong> word processing skills essential;<br />
Self‐starter who can work well independently <strong>and</strong> within a team;<br />
Ability to speak a <strong>for</strong>eign language preferred;<br />
Knowledge of children’s issue <strong>and</strong> previous child advocacy experience preferred.<br />
Compensation<br />
<strong>Legal</strong> internships are unpaid positions; however, legal interns may receive academic credit through an<br />
approved law school program.<br />
<strong>Legal</strong> interns will be reimbursed <strong>for</strong> parking or public transportation expenses.<br />
Hours<br />
<strong>Legal</strong> interns are required to work a minimum 8 weeks <strong>for</strong> at least 15 hours per week during Fall, Spring,<br />
or Summer semesters.<br />
<strong>Legal</strong> interns will be excused to attend internship program functions <strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong> academic holidays or<br />
vacations.<br />
