Established in 1961, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) celebrates it

Launched in the summer of 2006, the PGPX is a one year, full time Post Graduate Programme

in Management for Executives. PGPX students undergo the rigorous, broad based academic

process IIMA is renowned for. The programme moulds experienced professionals into

managers who fit naturally into middle and senior executive roles. The profile of this batch is

comparable to those at the best business schools across the globe in terms of cross-cultural

Programme Chairperson

Dear Recruiter,

I am proud to present to you the 86 meritorious professionals that constitute the PGPX class of

2011. These experienced candidates have been carefully selected from a large pool of national

and international applicants on the basis of their academic profiles, analytical abilities and the

quality of their previous work experiences and achievements. The average GMAT score of this

class is 712 with an average total work experience of over 10 years. They have spent an average

of 4 years working internationally in 13 different industries that includes banking, consulting,

information technology, telecommunication, pharmaceuticals, government services and the

armed forces. Their previous roles included general management, project management, HR,

finance, marketing and operations.

Keeping with the tradition of IIMA programmes, PGPX is a highly involved and extremely

rigorous academic programme. It develops the general management capabilities of the

experienced professionals in the class, with a focus on change management and on managing

across borders and cultures. Facilitated by excellent support and commitment from my faculty

colleagues, this unique programme involves more than 650 class hours spread across 50 to 60

core courses and electives. The pedagogy involves case discussions within and across learning

groups, customized function-oriented segments, industry leader interactions, the International

Immersion Programme (IIP) and an industry projects.

Guidelines for Recruiting Organizations

The PGPX placement committee and relationship managers will work with you to streamline

placement processes for recruiters and participants. They will help schedule your visits for

presentations and recruitment interviews.

Pre-placement presentations (up to 2 rounds) enable you to inform participants of your

organization’s unique opportunities and challenges, and your culture and structure. We have

found a 20-minute presentation and a 20-minute Q&A session most effective. Presence of

senior executives and alumni help create a better impact.

Negotiations on compensation and other terms of employment should be held in strict

confidence between you and the candidate. However, recruiters need to keep the Placement

Committee informed at the following stages to ensure that all recruiters are able to hire

effectively and efficiently.

• When a preliminary offer is made

• When a final offer is made

• When a candidate accepts or rejects a final offer

Recruitment Fee

There is a fee for participating in the recruitment, and a charge per successful hire (amounts will

be informed by the relationship manager). Companies headquartered in India, with turnover

The PGPX programme includes application of academic learning through the following projects – a

faculty-guided Individual Research Project (IRP), a simulation-based Capstone Project, and an optional

industry sponsored project after the academic component of the International Immersion Programme

(IIP)

Individual Research Project

Under guidance of a faculty, participants study an industry or a company, using the Institute’s resources

and interactions with stakeholders.

IRP provides students an opportunity to explore their passion while taking advantage of the rich and

diverse experience of the IIMA faculty network. Each of these projects results in one of the following:

• A business plan

• An industry note

• A company-specific case study

• A business plan on bridging the social divide

International Immersion Programme

This enables participants to apply their learning in a different environment from their “home culture”,

and to take effective business decisions in a multicultural context. This year’s students have a choice of

attending National University of Singapore, Chinese University of Hongkong, Fudan University, Shanghai

(China) or Warwick Business School (UK). In the three weeks following that, the participants have an

option to pursue sponsored consulting projects in the areas including M&A, revenue models, financial

product development and balanced score-cards across the globe.

Capstone Project

This is the culmination of the programme. During this period, participants are asked to resolve difficult

business situations, working in large multidisciplinary teams against tough timelines, in a simulated

business environment. This helps test and develop skills in the rational, individual and social dimensions

of leadership.
