Scope of the Journal

WRITR is a multidisciplinary, refereed publication intended as a forum for practitioners,

academics, and policymakers from around the world to exchange concepts, research, and

best practices in the field of intermodal transportation.

Transportation is the essential link in the domestic and global trading system. The demand for

transportation that is safe, efficient, and cost-effective has given rise to the increasing use of

multiple modes of transportation within the supply chain of many firms. To successfully

deliver in an era of just-in-time inventory systems, the intermodal transportation system must

be responsive to firm needs for speed, reliability, security, and tracking. Policy makers at all

levels of government also have an interest in developing systems that balance the safety and

security needs of their constituents with business and consumer objectives.

Even as developed nations grapple with the replacement of aging transportation

infrastructure and the integration of transportation modes that initially developed in isolation,

developing nations are being called upon to develop the transportation system that will

enable their citizens to participate in the global trading system and enjoy its benefits.
