The SHISHUMELA – a celebration of childhood
“Fair” or “Mela” in India is quite ancient word in India and everywhere in
the world. Human society had created occasions and locations to be
together for mixing and sharing with mass on many ways ! Our “
Sishumela” has the subject of child and childhood ; also not a big
difference in its purpose but only differently appealing in its title “
Sishumela a celebration of child hood” . …..where adults will not speak
problems of children or on behalf of children neither children will be asked
to behave, think and give speech like adults on every of problem related to
them which somehow bothers adults!
Here both children and adults in the society will think, get informed and
may speak about ensuring childhood for every child of the world – adults
will address the adults for their responsibilities for it and children will make
fun, try to think and share their childhood to others, a privileged or
complete childhood will extend the hand towards the under-previledged or
incomplete childhood in their own way own languages!
And together we will try to think and act for pure childhood of a child in
India with proper education, health inputs, nutrition and joy of being in a
family as well as welcomed by society with rights and cared for his/her
beautiful existence as next generation. In smallest arena of IHNACL in six
operative districts we will continue to express that in our Sishumela once in
a year.
This issue of the newsletter tries to showcase the glimpses of the fair at
various locations.
Primary school students - Bidyut, Chammeli, Sakuntala, Sudip expressed,
“We are very glad to participate in this fair. When will this mela be
organized again?”. High school students Koushik, Srilekha, Gargi said that
it was the first time in their life that they participated in an essay
competition and were very happy and excited. The judges of the essay
competition were also very appreciative. One of the judges, Ms. Putul
Deughria (Teacher of Kenjakura Damodar Girls H.S) stated that ’’this type
of essay competition can be seen rarely. Now people are highly driven by
technology like computers, as such, language skills in students are
gradually decreasing. These type of competitions are very useful for
nurturing the skills of children and should be continued for them”.
With active participation of dignitaries, teachers, parents, SHGs and
students, the event was rendered a great success.
