Adapted “Senior Moments”<br />

(formerly PE 5R) Exercise Class 1.0 Unit<br />

This course is designed to meet the needs of senior and<br />

elderly students with special needs who require restricted<br />

or modified activities. Individualized exercise programs will<br />

be performed by students with instruction covering the<br />

elements of physical fitness. Emphasis will be placed on<br />

weight training principles and techniques in a fun and friendly<br />

environment. 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU, UC (No<br />

prerequisite. Grade Option.) This course may be taken four<br />

(formerly PE 5S) Cardiac Rehab 1.0 Unit<br />

This course is designed to meet the needs of students with<br />

disabilities/special needs who require restricted or modified<br />

activities pertaining to the heart. Individualized exercise<br />

programs for cardiac rehab students will be performed with<br />

instruction covering the elements of cardiovascular fitness.<br />

Emphasis will be placed on principles and techniques. 48-<br />

The adapted outdoor adventure course is designed to<br />

develop student’s gross motor skills and to facilitate their<br />

participation in life-long activities enhancing improved<br />

fitness, self-esteem and social interaction. The main focus<br />

of the class is experiencing the benefits of outdoor adventure.<br />

48-54 hours laboratory. CSU. UC. (No prerequisite. Grade<br />

Therapeutic Horseback Riding<br />

(formerly PE 5E)<br />

1.0 Unit<br />

The therapeutic horseback riding course is designed to<br />

develop student’s gross motor skills and to facilitate their<br />

participation in life-long activities enhancing improved fitness,<br />

self-esteem, and social interaction. The main focus of the<br />

class is experiencing the therapeutic benefits of horseback<br />

riding. 48-54 hours laboratory. CSU, UC (No prerequisite.<br />

Grade Option.) This course may be taken four times.<br />

APE 182 Wheelchair Tennis 1.0 Unit<br />

(formerly PE 5G)<br />

The wheelchair tennis course is designed to develop<br />

student’s gross motor skills and to facilitate their participation<br />

in life-long activities enhancing improved fitness, selfesteem,<br />

and social interaction in tennis. Activities include<br />

but are not limited to tennis. Fitness, rules, and<br />

sportsmanship will also be addressed. 48-54 hours<br />

(formerly PE 5H)<br />

This course is designed to meet the needs of students who<br />

require restricted or modified activities. Individualized<br />

cardiovascular exercise programs will be performed by<br />

students with instruction covering the elements of physical<br />

fitness. Emphasis will be placed on cardiovascular training<br />

principles and techniques through walking. 48-54 hours<br />

laboratory. CSU, UC (No prerequisite. Grade Option.) This<br />

(formerly PE 5K)<br />

This course is designed to meet the needs of students who<br />

require restricted or modified activities. Maintenance and/or<br />

development of basic physical/mental skills, knowledge, and<br />

attitude for satisfactory participation in aquatics (swimming,<br />

gait, fitness). Measured skill performance and<br />

cardiovascular fitness are stressed. 48-54 hours laboratory.<br />

The adapted sports and games course is designed to<br />

but are not limited to bowling, softball, and frisbee. Fitness,<br />

rules, and sportsmanship will also be discussed. 48-54<br />

The adapted fishing course is designed to develop student’s<br />

gross motor skills and to facilitate their participation in lifelong<br />

activities enhancing improved fitness, self-esteem, and<br />

social interaction in fishing. The main focus of the class is<br />

fitness through fishing. Activities include but are not limited<br />

to fishing. Fitness, rules, and sportsmanship will also be<br />

A consideration of the problems associated with the<br />

combination of growing demand for energy and resources<br />

with decreasing reserves and increasing environmental<br />

disruption associated with the acquisition and use of these<br />

resources. New and future energy production and conversion<br />

methods, including solar, nuclear, fusion, and geothermal.<br />
