The JEMES Experience –
Change your Perspective!
Today, knowledge on environmental technology only is not enough to develop professional
and research activities for a sustainable development in an international
context. Neither can a merely economical or managerial education alone provide
the necessary expertise for a responsible treatment of global resources. Environmental
problems require a more integrated approach.
★ Two general orientations
★ Quotes from academics
Prof. Uwe Neis, JEMES Coordinator
“I am sure that JEMES will provide an outstanding
learning experience, scientifically
as well as on personal level.”
Prof. Carlos Borrego, UA, Portuguese
ex-Minister for the Environment
“JEMES is an excellent opportunity to learn
environmental issues within the European
mobility spirit.“
Prof. Wolfgang Calmano, TUHH
“We always wanted to include competences
as scientific curiosity, teamwork, leadership
and social responsibility into our programme,
and through this cooperation we
can do so. Fantastic achievement!”
Prof. Per Christensen, AAU
“This programme creates the best conditions
for high level education in an international
environment. A wide variety of
topics ensure that JEMES students will
achieve relevant skills for working in all
kinds of international contexts.”
Prof. Rainer Zahn, UAB
“JEMES promisses a novel and exciting concept
of teaching environmental sciences
across the isles of a range of disciplines. A
truly inspiring experience for students and
teachers alike.”
JEMES offers two different „streams“: Stream
1 being more oriented towards Technology
(Environmental Technology Engineering),
and Stream 2 more towards Social Science /
Management (Environmental Management
Engineering). In both streams, you will be
offered fundamental scientific courses,
which provide you with a common knowledge
base, and topics that reflect the different
profiles of each university.
All JEMES students choose and obtain 75% of
their credits in one and 25 % in the other
stream. You start in your preferred stream
and continue in the other stream in the
second semester, before deciding for good in
which direction to specialise. The third semester
is characterised by its focus on project
work, whereas the fourth semester is devoted
to research leading to the Masters thesis.
