PARIS DESIGN WEEK

10 th to 16 th September 2012

Thuesday 10 th July 2012

PARIS DESIGN WEEK

MAISON&OBJET inspiration at the heart of the city

Launched in September 2011, by the organisers of MAISON&OBJET, PARIS DESIGN

WEEK immediately appealed to a broad public of professionals, amateurs and

enthusiasts.

Ideally positioned in the continuity of the home-style event, it is one of the highlights of

the back-to-work period. It allows the 100,000 French and international professionals

present for the exhibition to extend their visit in the city and draw inspiration from the

latest trends at showrooms, concept stores, but also cultural venues, galleries, design

studios, hotels and restaurants, which embody the city's creative dynamic.

A federating event, imagined as a free, no-charge itinerary

dotted with springboard exhibitions for the avant-garde of

design and festive evenings organised each evening of the week,

PARIS DESIGN WEEK satisfies the demands of the general public

eager to discover the latest lifestyle innovations. As the new

collections arrive in the stores, before the most prolific commercial

time of the year (40% of sales in the sector are made between

September and December), the event gives new impetus to the

relationship between brands and the public, but above all reveals

to the eyes of the world the essential dimension of Paris, Capital of

Design.

participating venues at the heart of Paris

A second edition with enriched content

The new edition of PARIS DESIGN WEEK will take place from Monday 10th to Sunday

16th September with the ambition of developing stronger and better structured

content, to satisfy the various needs of the participating public.

150 venues and 250 participants in Paris

The first PARIS DESIGN WEEK comprised 100 venues and 180 participants. The 2012 edition

should include 150 venues throughout the city and more than 250 participants. In an

eventful atmosphere, showrooms, design galleries, art galleries, concept stores,

architecture and design agencies, cultural institutions but also hotels and restaurants,

will present their latest collections, thematic exhibitions, international brand

presentations and latest expressions in culinary design in the dynamic style

characterising MAISON&OBJET.

New thematic itineraries tracking down creative ideas

Besides the visit of the itinerary through the major Parisian districts, PARIS DESIGN

WEEK also offers thematic itineraries to help each visitor draw up a tailored approach

to the event.

Several itineraries have already been defined:

-ART & DESIGN: to discover exhibitions of the work of historic figures in the discipline through

design galleries, museums or Parisian foundations but also more projective exhibitions on the

work of contemporary designers.

Venues taking part in this itinerary are: Exposition « Génération Design » at the Musée d'Art

Moderne, Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Galerie BSL, Galerie Elsa Vanier, Galerie Gosserez,

Fondation Cartier, Galerie Patrick Seguin, Galerie Slott, Gallery S.Bensimon, Parcours des

- DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE(S): Architecture, the large-scale dimension of design, architects and

designers work for the same goal: creating an ideal environment for users. Both disciplines

stem from the same approach. Design can be considered as Microarchitecture and

architecture as Macro-Design.

The Architect-Designer will then produce meta-architecture or meta-design. Through the history

of design, these professions have often blended together and nowadays designers create

spaces and architects design furniture. Whether basing work on form, like a designer, or on

vacuum, like an architect, the approach differs but the goal remains the same. Design and

architecture are both witnesses of their times and lifestyles.

The DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE(S) itinerary will present special events designed to present

Parisian architecture, approaches that create dialogue and blend together design and

architecture: moving and nomadic architecture, places that reference materials aimed at

architects and designers: traditional and artisan-based methods or new technical and

innovative materials.

Venues taking part in this itinerary are: Jean Nouvel Design, Atelier Pierre Bonnefille, Cassina,

differentiated, it integrates costumes and traditions, through the reconverted industrial fabric and

innovative educational tools.

Venues taking part in this itinerary are: Pleyel, Esprit Porcelaine, Edition Limitée,

- PARIS DESIGN WEEK KIDS: Concerned as it is with ergonomics, eco-design and sustainability,

design is developing for children: from the design of toys through to furniture that surrounds

children, manufacturers and designers work on this target as if it were a major and demanding

specifier. For the pleasure of parents and comfort of children, Kids Design is probably one of

the most difficult to conceive owing to it broad target and different expectations. Materials,

colours, forms and patterns: decoding children's expectations and educating them in "good

design". Beyond the aesthetic aspect, the designer's role is to make products smart. . Design

helps to stimulate children's creative learning and inquisitiveness with respect to objects and

their environment.

In partnership with Doolittle, PARIS DESIGN WEEK offers an itinerary of the most

creative addresses in the world of children's design.

- FOOD & DESIGN: The first contact we have with food is visual and olfactory. Culinary Design

enhances and questions the contents and container of a meal. It is now essential. In interior

design, packaging and tableware, eating well becomes an aesthetic and sensory experience.

The symbol of sharing and conviviality, eating is a universal and federating act. Venues taking

part in this itinerary are: La Maison du Chocolat, Lenôtre, La Milk Factory, La Pâtisserie des rêves,

Publicis Drugstore, La Cornue, Eggersmann, Ma Puce, Restaurant du Monde, Ateliers des Arts

Culinaires...

La Cornue

La Maison du Chocolat

- MOBILITY & SPORT: At the heart of urban and environmental issues, mobility is questioned as a

whole as city centres become more dense and the urban weave is extended. Moving means

living.

Transport modes are redefined in terms of community comfort and well-being in the city (noise,

safety, pollution, etc.) transport modes are adapted to new lifestyles

Other itineraries complete these themes to give a new approach to the many

expressions that now characterise design and to track down contemporary

creative ideas in Paris

now! le off: the design incubator

now! le off is an essential anchoring point of PARIS DESIGN WEEK. An

integral part of the event since the 1 st edition, this exhibition dedicated to

young designers has met with considerable success.

11,000 visitors have discovered the emerging talents of the new French

and European scene, there to reveal their - often self-produced - designs to

the public.

It is also the opportunity to make direct contact with the new graduates of

the most prestigious design schools.

Finally, last year, now ! le off presented 80 designers, most of whom took

advantage of this springboard to launch their career.

There should be around a hundred of them participating in this new edition showcasing their

unbridled creativity.
