ROMAN CATHOLIC PARISH IN MCCARTYVILLE
9377 State Route 119 W
Anna, Ohio 45302
DECEMBER 15, 2013 • 3RD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Reflection for the Week
"The poor have the good news proclaimed to
them." Jesus caps his catalogue of miracles with
this unexpected statement. In the same sentence
where he reminds his listeners that he has cured
the blind, the lame, the deaf, the sick, and even
raised the dead, Jesus concludes by mentioning
preaching the good news to the poor. How did
that make the list of supernatural cures? What's
so miraculous about good news?
Well, in this case, the news is that the
Messiah has finally come, in the most miraculous
of ways, as the incarnate Son of God conceived in
the womb of a virgin. This is a message of
spiritual healing: he comes to "save his people
from their sins" (Mt 1:21).
The poor are not just those in physical
poverty, but those whose sins have impoverished
their souls. This of course applies to us. The
poverty of our own sinfulness-of the alienation
we create between ourselves and God-can be
overcome by the forgiveness offered to us in
Christ. Because of this, we have cause to rejoice!
On this Third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete
Sunday, we are encouraged to rejoice. We pause
in this season of anticipation to remember that,
in truth, our hopes have already been fulfilled.
God has "visited and brought redemption to his
people" (Lk 1:68). He is among us, saving us even
now! We need not look to the past to witness
Christ's astonishing acts. His work in our souls,
right here and now, is miracle enough.
Special Note to All Committees Regarding Bulletin Submissions:
The Parish Office is happy to publicize your events!
complete information on upcoming events well in advance in order to
allow time for bulletin entry, etc. In order to avoid printing incorrect
information, assumptions will not be made regarding any activity.
We realize that details, contacts, etc. change from year to year.
Please help us help you and our fellow parishioners to stay accurately
informed of parish and area activities.
Also, please contact the Parish Office with your committee’s schedule of
planned meetings for the year so that they may be added to the parish’s
master schedule in order to avoid possible scheduling conflicts.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
You told me to drink from this fountain, inviting me, that is,
to draw the waters of my salvation from your wellsprings, my Savior.
I was most eager that streams of faith, hope, and love should
flow into me from that source.
Cold and Flu Season is Upon Us!
If you are not feeling well and healthy, or if you are concerned with
the health and wellness of your fellow parishioners:
Should you not wish to shake hands at the Sign of Peace during this time,
a suitable gesture such as a nod of the head or a verbal gesture of peace
would be gracious and fitting. As for reception of Holy Communion
from the cup, common sense should reign. Communicants should be
thoughtful of others during this cold and flu season.
If you are sick, please refrain from receiving from the cup.
3RD SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 15, 2013
Thank you to all who attended and helped with the NET Ministries retreat!
We had 21 High School Students attend and it was a great success.
Here are a couple quotes of many that I received from parents of students
that attended the NET retreat on Sunday November 24 th :
“I’m in tears, I’ll pay to have Net ministries once a month for my kids”
“My child is doing all kinds of things around the house without being told and
he’s leading us in prayer before they leave for school.
He said “It is the right thing to do, Mom””
“My child had an awesome time and wants to try to do NET when she
graduates form high school”
“My child wished he could have been there when it started at 4 instead of
arriving an hour late. He had a great time!”
Thank you for the feedback and I’m so glad that the 21 students who attended
had an amazing time and life changing experience. Blessings!
~Jodie Blilndauer, Coordinator of Youth Ministry
MARRIAGE
MOMENT
Couples sometimes relate by making
little jokes with a tiny barb in them-
”Oh, never marry a youngest child” and
the retaliation, “Never marry a Jones.”
Humor is great but beware of the temptation
to be funny at the expense of
your beloved. It can slowly erode your
affection for each other. Talk about
how you kid each other. Make sure
your “jokes” don’t have barbs in them.
PARENTING
POINTERS
December 21st is the longest night of
the year. Advent is about waiting in
the uncertainty of darkness. Ponder
the times you have waited in the
dark with a family member. Perhaps
it was illness, a child afraid of the
dark, or another fear, that kept you
in vigil together. Why not take your
child outside on Saturday and marvel
at the stars together. Be not afraid.
