Comfort in Bad Times By Pastor Allan Chichester
This week Pastor Marvin Clarke and I attended a candlelight vigil,
which was held at the Elmbank Community Center for the parents and
friend of Jarvis Montague. On Sunday night, 15 year old Jarvis Montague
was shot to death just outside his front door off Jamestown Crescent
in Rexdale. As we spent over three hours ministering to his
mother, father, siblings, neighbors, and friends I wondered about the
senselessness of his killing. I left the vigil disturbed by the plague of
gun violence on our planet. Then my heart turned to home, yes! the
home of the scriptures, to find some solace and hope. I remembered
that Jesus said, “As the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of
the Son of Man be.” According to Genesis 6; 5,11, "God saw that the
wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination
of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually . . .. The earth
also was corrupt before God; and the earth was filled with violence."
It was then my heart was comforted with the thoughts that we must be
very, very close to the coming of Jesus for the earth is filling up with
violence. This week as we worship let us remember there is comfort in
prophecies of the Bible.
