1 x 250g ball to complete both Sweater and Hat

NEEDLES

A pair 8.00mm (US 11), (UK 0) Knitting Needles

or size that gives correct tension/gauge.

MATERIALS

A Yarn Needle; 2 Stitch Holders, a Crochet Hook and

2 buttons (if desired) for Sweater.

TENSION/GAUGE

11 sts and 16 rows to 10 cms/4 ins over

stocking st, using 8.00mm (US 11), (UK 0)

Knitting Needles.

Note - Correct tension/gauge is essential for a

successful handknit.

ABBREVIATIONS

St/s - stitch/es, K - Knit, P - Purl, garter st - every

row knit, stocking st - 1 row K, 1 row P, RS - right

side, WS - wrong side, tbl - through back of loop,

dec - decrease, inc - increase, K2tog - knit 2 sts

together, beg - begin/ning, patt - pattern, rep -

repeat, cont - continue, rem - remain/ning, foll -

follow/ing, alt - alternate.

CREATE

Sweater

Back

Using 8.00mm (US 11), (UK 0) Needles, cast on 31

(33-35) sts.

Knit 7 rows garter st (1st row is WS).

Work in stocking st (beg with a knit row) until work

measures 17 (20-21) cm/7 (8-8½) ins from beg,

ending with a purl row.

Beg yoke patt - 1st row (RS) - K1tbl, * P1, K1tbl,

rep from * to end.

2nd row - P1, * K1tbl, P1, rep from * to end.

Last 2 rows form yoke patt. **

Cont in yoke patt for rem until work measures 29

(33-35) cms/11½ (13-14) ins from beg, ending

with a 2nd row.

Shape shoulders - Keeping patt correct, cast/bind

off 8 (9-9) sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Leave rem 15 (15-17) sts on stitch holder for

neckband.

Front

Work as for Back to **.

Cont in yoke patt for rem until there are 8 (10-10)

rows less than Back to beg of shoulder shaping,

ending with a 2nd row.

Shape neck - Next row - Patt 11 (12-13), turn.

*** Cont on these 11 (12-13) sts.

Dec one st at neck edge in foll alt rows until 8 (9-9)

sts rem.

Work 1 (3-1) row/s patt.

Shape shoulder - Cast/bind off rem sts. ***

Slip next 9 sts onto a stitch holder and leave for

neckband.

With RS of work facing, join yarn to rem sts and

patt to end.

Rep from *** to ***, working 1 row more before

shoulder shaping.

Sleeve (make 2)

Using 8.00mm (US 11), (UK 0) Needles, cast on

19 sts.

Knit 7 rows garter st (1st row is WS).

Work 2 rows stocking st (beg with a knit row).

Cont in stocking st, inc one st at each end of next

row, then in foll 4th rows until there are 27 (29-

31) sts.

Cont until sleeve measures 16 (19-21) cms/6½

(7½-8½) ins from beg, ending with a purl row.

Cast/bind off loosely knitways.

Neckband

Using yarn needle and mattress st seam, join right

shoulder seam. With RS of work facing and using

8.00mm (US 11), (UK 0) Needles, knit up 6 (7-7)

sts evenly along left side of neck, knit across sts

from front stitch holder, knit up 6 (7-7) sts evenly

along right side of neck, then knit across sts from

back stitch-holder = 36 (38-40) sts.

Knit 3 rows garter st.

Cast/bind off very loosely knitways.

Beanie

Using 8.00mm (US 11), (UK 0) Needles, cast on

40 (45-50) sts.

Knit 7 rows garter st (1st row is WS).

Work 16 (18-20) rows stocking st.

Shape crown - 1st row - * K3, K2tog, rep from

* to end = 32 (36-40) sts.

2nd row - Purl.

3rd row - * K2, K2tog, rep from * to end = 24

(27-30) sts.

4th row - Purl.

5th row - * K1, K2tog, rep from * to end = 16

(18-20) sts.

6th row - Purl.

7th row - * K2tog, rep from * to end = 8 (9-10)

sts.

Break off yarn leaving a long end. Run end through

rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using yarn needle, darn in ends.

Sweater - Using yarn needle and mattress st

seam, join left shoulder seam for approx 2.5

cms/1 in from armhole edge if working optional

shoulder opening, otherwise join entire seam. If

desired, using crochet hook, work 1 row of double

crochet, evenly along Back and Front shoulder

opening, making 2 buttonloops evenly along front

shoulder. Sew on buttons to correspond with

buttonloops. Sew in sleeves, placing centre of

sleeves to shoulder seams and ends of sleeve to

beg of yoke patt on Back and Front. Join side and

sleeve seams.

Beanie - Using yarn needle and mattress st seam,

join side edges together to form centre back seam.
