Chairman’s Message
Welcome to your latest edition
of our Thank You newsletter,
filled with news and events
taking place in support of our
family of hospitals in both central
Manchester and Trafford.
The last few months have been action
packed: in September Individual Restaurant
Company hosted the third Celebrity Grilling
at Manchester’s Restaurant Bar & Grill, which
saw two star-studded teams do battle in
the kitchen in a bid to raise funds for our
children’s hospital. September also saw our
fi rst ever Wiggle for Women Zumbathon
in support of Saint Mary’s Hospital and
December saw patrons Cole and Suzanne
Page host their fi fth annual Ladies Christmas
Starry Lunch at The Midland Hotel. You can
read more about this, and the many other
events and fundraising that has recently
taken place in support of all of our hospitals,
throughout the newsletter.
Lucy’s Midnight Walk
Around 100 people took part in a nine mile
midnight walk from Ramsbottom to
Bury and back to show their support for
six-year-old Lucy Thomas, who receives
treatment at the children’s hospital for a
rare form of cancer.
At the time of the walk, Lucy was in the USA
with her parents receiving specialist treatment,
so they arranged to take part in a walk whilst
there to back the efforts being made at home.
The walk raised over £9,000 for Ward 84
of the children’s hospital.
As the year came to a close,
several families held charity
here are just a few of the
events that went on
Big Christmas T-Break
Inspired by our Big T-Break, Linda Williamson
holds a Christmas tea party at her home in
Romiley every year. This one saw 40 guests
through her front door and included a ‘guess
the weight of the Christmas cake’ competition.
Linda raised £575 which will go to the children’s
hospital where Linda’s granddaughter, Erin
Rose Williamson, received treatment for a bone
eating disease in her shoulder.
Special thanks goes to the businesses in
Romiley that donated to the raffle.
Wiggle for Women
Zumbathon!
A Musical Showcase
Wiggle for Women
was the first ever
Zumbathon for Saint
Mary’s and it was a
huge success!
173 women and two men wiggled
and ‘zumba’d’ for three hours,
raising over £9,000 and smashing our
£3,000 target!
Patron Julie Neville opened the event
with a moving speech about what a
difference the money raised would make.
Thank you to everyone who donated
prizes for the raffl es and thanks to
Greggs the Baker and Costco for
providing cakes and water on the day for
our wiggling women!
The money raised by Wiggle for
Women will be used to purchase
a cooling cot for the hospital’s
Rainbow Room, a space for parents
and families to go following the birth
of a baby that is still born, has died
during labour or in the immediate
hours afterwards.
Ready to wiggle!
Over
£9,000
Raised
Inspired by Hector Boon’s chivalrous
haircut last year, Moira Hancock, from
SMK Productions, showcased a young talent
gala at Stockport Plaza in aid of
Saint Mary’s Hospital.
Over 370 children, aged between
fi ve and fi fteen, took to the stage
and performed a mix of musical
hits. With ticket sales and Mulberry
handbag raffl e prize, the gala raised
over £2,000.
in fundraising for the Eye Hospital as
your efforts have helped fund a cataract
simulator costing £120,000.
The ‘EyeSi’ is a surgical simulator for training
in cataract surgery and will be invaluable in
improving training for cataract surgery as
research has shown that complications are
reduced when trainees have been trained on the
simulator before they start operating.
