KLEIN+HUMMEL TYPE O 108/TV
Installation - Operation
Operating conditions
The active studio-monitor-speaker O 108/TV is determined for operation in rooms within a
temperature range of +10 to + 40 degrees (centigrade). The storing and transporting
range is -25° to +70° centigrade.
Positioning
The speakers of the O 108/TV are magnetically shielded, so even a position close to a TVmonitor
is possible without any influence to the picture. The sophisticated O 108/TV design
gained in an unified and neutral sound with a broad listening area even outside the symmetry
axis. Be sure, positioning the high frequency speakers in ears height. Not only in order
to get best performance, but also to get best cooling of the heat sink, the preferred position
of the speaker is vertical. Threads on both sides give the possibility of mounting the
speaker on a forked stand. Those stands are delivered e.g. by
Högel-Studiotechnik GmbH
Siemensstrasse 2
D-85716 Unterschleissheim (Germany)
Phone: +89 / 310 11 88
Fax: +89 / 317 49 12
Please be sure, that the threads are closed every times, either by the plastic plugs on
delivery, or the fixing screws. Otherwise the performance of the speaker at low frequencies
will be influenced. The same happens if the plastic plugs on the rear side, covering
openings for service, are removed.
Mains operation
The internal amplifiers are supplied by 230 V / 50 - 60 Hz mains voltage. On request special
versions with other voltages are available. If the power plug has to be removed the protection
earth must be connected or an additional ground wire with at least 1.5 mm² has to be
connected with the case.
Mains switch
After switching on, the signal will be connected to the speakers after a delay of approximately
3 seconds, preventing switching pulses to be heard from own and external sources.
Switching off disconnects the speakers immediately.
Input Level / Location Equalization / Ground-Lift
Next to the input connectors are the level controls, the location equalizer switch and the
ground-lift switch. For avoiding unwanted setting, a cover has to be removed at first.
Input
By the switch INPUT the input sensitivity of the default + 6 dBm (1,55 V) can be
increased to 0 dBm (0,775 V).
Level
The rotary control LEVEL allows the attenuation of the input signal from 0 to -24 dB
Location Equalization
By the four step rotary switch EQUALIZATION the influence of the speaker position
to walls on the low frequency response can be corrected.
Position 1 = speaker free
Position 2 = speaker in front of a wall
Position 3 = speaker in a room corner
Position 4 = speaker in a room edge
Ground Lift
The switch GROUND-LIFT opens the connection between signal ground and
case for preventing hum, caused by ground loops. The default upper position
closes the connection, in the down position the signal ground is separated and
the protection earth is connected to the case only.
Please be sure, that after adjusting the controls as mentioned before, all openings must be
closed by the cover again. Otherwise noise by the streaming air and influence to the bass
response may occur.
Mains Fuse
When removing a blown mains fuse, the value must be
1 A (slow blow) @ 230 VAC (5 x 20 mm)
The speaker must be separated from mains before.
Baffle Cover
The baffle cover, delivered with the O 108/TV, prevents mechanical damages from the
speaker systems. The acoustical influence of the cover is extremely small an can be
detected by measuring only. The design of the speaker allows the use with or without this
cover.
LED Indicators
Two LED’s, integrated in the high frequency speaker, are indicating following states:
Green:
Red:
normal operation, internal power supply correct
overload protection in function
The red LED indicates the function of the overload protection circuit. This may occur when
cueing tape decks or testing with sine waves. The circuit reduces the output to uncritical
values.
Care for cabinet
The surface of O 108/TV can be delivered either flocked dark grey or varnished anthracite
metallic. In the first time the flocked version may lose some hairs. This can be avoided by
cleaning the surface with a vacuum cleaner. This cleaning should be repeated in longer
intervals.
