Dear Student
We are pleased to invite you to perform online Subject Registration for
2012-13 Summer Term which will commence on 8 March 2013 at the
eStudent (www.polyu.edu.hk/student). Please use Firefox 17 / Internet
Explorer 7 browser for logging in eStudent as other browsers / versions
cannot be supported for the time being.
(If you will have completed all the requirements for graduation by the
2012-13 Semester 2 or will not continue your study at PolyU from 2012-
13 Summer Term, please disregard this email.)
Please note the following information and take necessary actions
according to the schedule. There will not be any reminder.
Online Checking of information concerning your subject registration

Online Mock Run of Subject Registration
Time: From 09:00 of 6 March to 23:59 of 7 March 2013
There will be an opportunity for you to simulate the process of subject
selection before the actual online registration. The “Mock Subject
Registration” function will be available for your use as follows.

• To familiarise yourself with the subject
registration procedures, you are urged to
participate in the Mock Run. All subjects you
have selected during this period will NOT be
carried forth to your actual online subject
registration.
• This system will be closed during the subject
registration (and the subsequent add/drop
periods).
Online Subject Registration
Time : From your assigned earliest commencing time of 8 March to
23:59 of 13 March 2013 (with a buffer of 2.5 hours i.e. till 02:30 of the
following day)

There will be no system service during 08:00 - 08:59 of 13 March 2013.

• Refer to the relevant definitive programme document and
the advice of your Programme Leader/Academic Advisor
before selecting subjects for Summer Term.
• Check that your subject registration will fulfil the
graduation requirements.
• Check the definitive programme document for the details
of other graduation requirements for your programme.
• Your Can and Can’t Items:-
- Can retake failed subjects under the “Retake Fail” tab
page (should “Confirm” after selecting ALL subjects).
- Should not make any changes on subjects preassigned/registered
by your department. If absolutely
necessary, consult your department first; otherwise your
department may revert them back without prior
notification.

- Not allowed to register extra credits exceeding the credit
limit specified for your programme.
- Must “Confirm” after selecting ALL subjects. Any subject
selection done without confirmation are invalid and
will NOT be registered for you by the system.
- Can do the selection only ONCE and will not be allowed
to do any selection after pressing the “confirm” button.
(Subsequent amendment on subject selection can only
be done during the System Re-opening Period (i.e. from
09:00 to 23:59 of 13 March 2013, with a buffer of 2.5
hours i.e. till 02:30 of the following day) or during the
add/drop period (i.e. from 10 June to 15 June 2013).
- Can indicate interest in over-subscribed subjects after
completion of your subject registration via “Preferred
Subject Indication”, if needed, after confirmation of
subject registration.
• Double check your subject registration record afterwards
via “Study Information”.

General Education (GE) Subject Selection
Time : From your assigned earliest commencing time of 8 March to
23:59 of 13 March 2013 (with a buffer of 2.5 hours i.e. till 02:30 of the
following day)
Some Part-time/Mixed-mode programmes may also include GE subjects as
part of their award requirements. Students enrolling on these programmes
will receive information on the GE subject selection from the programme
offering department direct.

Add/Drop Period for Summer Term
The Add/Drop Period offers you the last chance to make adjustment to your
subject selections for the semester concerned:

• Subject limit will be removed during the add/drop
period. Students can take up to the maximum of
study load set for each semester.
• Students can retake passed subjects online for the
purpose of improving grades during the last two
days of the Add/Drop Period.
More details on the Summer Term add/drop arrangements will be sent to you
in due course.
