Dear Student<br />
We are pleased to invite you to perform online Subject Registration for<br />
2012-13 Summer Term which will commence on 8 March 2013 at the<br />
eStudent (www.polyu.edu.hk/student). Please use Firefox 17 / Internet<br />
Explorer 7 browser for logging in eStudent as other browsers / versions<br />
cannot be supported for the <strong>time</strong> being.<br />
(If you will have completed all the requirements for graduation by the<br />
2012-13 Semester 2 or will not continue your study at PolyU from 2012-<br />
13 Summer Term, please disregard this email.)<br />
Please note the following information <strong>and</strong> take necessary actions<br />
according to the schedule. There will not be any reminder.<br />

Online Mock Run <strong>of</strong> Subject Registration<br />

There will be an opportunity for you to simulate the process <strong>of</strong> subject<br />
selection before the actual online registration. The “Mock Subject<br />
Registration” function will be available for your use as follows.<br />

• To familiarise yourself with the subject<br />
registration procedures, you are urged to<br />
participate in the Mock Run. All subjects you<br />
have selected during this period will NOT be<br />
carried forth to your actual online subject<br />
registration.<br />
• This system will be closed during the subject<br />
registration (<strong>and</strong> the subsequent add/drop<br />
periods).<br />

There will be no system service during 08:00 - 08:59 <strong>of</strong> 13 March 2013.<br />

• Refer to the relevant definitive programme document <strong>and</strong><br />
the advice <strong>of</strong> your Programme Leader/Academic Advisor<br />
before selecting subjects for Summer Term.<br />
• Check that your subject registration will fulfil the<br />
graduation requirements.<br />
• Check the definitive programme document for the details<br />
<strong>of</strong> other graduation requirements for your programme.<br />
• Your Can <strong>and</strong> Can’t Items:-<br />
- Can retake failed subjects under the “Retake Fail” tab<br />
page (should “Confirm” after selecting ALL subjects).<br />
- Should not make any changes on subjects preassigned/registered<br />
by your department. If absolutely<br />
necessary, consult your department first; otherwise your<br />
department may revert them back without prior<br />
notification.
- Not allowed to register extra credits exceeding the credit<br />
limit specified for your programme.<br />
- Must “Confirm” after selecting ALL subjects. Any subject<br />
selection done without confirmation are invalid <strong>and</strong><br />
will NOT be registered for you by the system.<br />
- Can do the selection only ONCE <strong>and</strong> will not be allowed<br />
to do any selection after pressing the “confirm” button.<br />
(Subsequent amendment on subject selection can only<br />
be done during the System Re-opening Period (i.e. from<br />
09:00 to 23:59 <strong>of</strong> 13 March 2013, with a buffer <strong>of</strong> 2.5<br />
hours i.e. till 02:30 <strong>of</strong> the following day) or during the<br />
add/drop period (i.e. from 10 June to 15 June 2013).<br />
- Can indicate interest in over-subscribed subjects after<br />
completion <strong>of</strong> your subject registration via “Preferred<br />
Subject Indication”, if needed, after confirmation <strong>of</strong><br />
subject registration.<br />

General Education (GE) Subject Selection<br />
Time : From your assigned earliest commencing <strong>time</strong> <strong>of</strong> 8 March to<br />
23:59 <strong>of</strong> 13 March 2013 (with a buffer <strong>of</strong> 2.5 hours i.e. till 02:30 <strong>of</strong> the<br />
following day)<br />
Some <strong>Part</strong>-<strong>time</strong>/<strong>Mixed</strong>-<strong>mode</strong> programmes may also include GE subjects as<br />
part <strong>of</strong> their award requirements. <strong>Students</strong> enrolling on these programmes<br />
will receive information on the GE subject selection from the programme<br />
<strong>of</strong>fering department direct.
Add/Drop Period for Summer Term<br />
The Add/Drop Period <strong>of</strong>fers you the last chance to make adjustment to your<br />
subject selections for the semester concerned:<br />

• Subject limit will be removed during the add/drop<br />
period. <strong>Students</strong> can take up to the maximum <strong>of</strong><br />
study load set for each semester.<br />
• <strong>Students</strong> can retake passed subjects online for the<br />
purpose <strong>of</strong> improving grades during the last two<br />
days <strong>of</strong> the Add/Drop Period.<br />
More details on the Summer Term add/drop arrangements will be sent to you<br />
in due course.<br />
