an increasing number of visitors
to the fairground, earned a
lot of praise as they not only led
to higher beer consumption,
but also benefited the showman
attractions. After continuous
rain during the first weekend,
the weather improved on the
Tuesday, resulting in a noticeable
increase in visitor numbers
from Wednesday on. The Family
Day, the second Fireworks
Friday and the final Saturday
could almost describe the
Schützenplatz as being
thronged with visitors. Such an
event hadn't been seen in
years, and with the considerable
increase in families attending with children,
made most of the participants feel confident. The
operator of the Ferris Wheel appearing at the
Schützenfest for the first time was very much interested
in returning there next year, and operators
of major rides and round rides, reported quite
satisfying results in Hannover. One can only hope
that with the support of the administration and the
Lower Saxony Showman Association, the positive
trend will continue in the coming years and that
“Hannover” will become a special July Volksfest
in the calendar of events once again. ■

From June 25 th to July 3 rd , the 491 st Annaberg
Kät once again enticed ten thousands of visitors
to the large district town. The most traditional
Volksfest in Saxony offered a skilfully
laid out fairground with a number of prominent
novelty ride and funhouse attractions.
As is tradition, the oldest and largest Volksfest in
the Erzgebirge is always held 14 days after
Pentecost. Due to Pentecost falling late this year,
the event began only on the last weekend in
June, overlapping with other large national
events. Nevertheless, visitors from all age
groups were able to enjoy a total of 100 traditional
and modern ride and Funhouse attractions,
as well as many concession stalls on the more
than five hectare fairground below the Pölberg
this year. The “Euro Coaster”, “River-Rafting”,
Lagerin‘s giant chain ride “Luxor”, the “Columbia”
Ferris Wheel (Burghard-Kleuser), Kutschenbauer’s
“Magic House” and the dodgem track
