8.2 Employability<br />
The Foundation Degree in <strong>Paramedic</strong> Science has been designed for individuals to<br />
meet statutory and professional registration requirements for employment as a<br />
qualified paramedic. This award have been developed in collaboration with the<br />
West Midlands Ambulance NHS Trust to meet the needs of the employer for<br />
qualified <strong>Paramedic</strong> Practitioners Many students exiting the award will seek<br />
employment locally, however, students seeking employment further a field are well<br />
equipped to apply for other health related employment. Prospective employers or<br />
other Higher Education Institutions may request references, a transcript of training<br />
and details of attendance from the Award Leader.<br />
8.3 Career Opportunities<br />
Following qualification a wide range of career pathways and opportunities lie<br />
ahead of you including<br />
Registered <strong>Paramedic</strong><br />
Emergency Care Practitioner<br />
Consultant <strong>Paramedic</strong><br />
Teaching and Educational work<br />
Research<br />
Healthcare management<br />
The course provides clear progression routes for individuals in health care work.<br />
Students that successfully complete the course will exit with a Foundation Degree<br />
(FdSc) in <strong>Paramedic</strong> Science, which is a recognised qualification in its own right.<br />
You will then be eligible to apply for professional registration with the HPC which will<br />
then enable you to gain employment with the ambulance service.<br />
Students will also be eligible to progress onto the 3 rd year of some existing degree<br />
programmes. A top up Honours Degree will be available for students wishing to<br />
develop their continuing professional development.<br />
8.4 When things go wrong or you need help<br />
We are eager for you to succeed on these awards, however, during your time as a<br />
learner, we recognise that there may be times when you experience problems or<br />
difficulties – this section is important to read as it provides important guidance to<br />
help you through.<br />
While we always do our best to provide the best service and experience we<br />
sometimes do get it wrong and again this section will tell you how to raise your<br />
concerns or complain.<br />
