In May the Neoumanist
Association organized an
Open Door Day for Straseni
citizens, local authorities,
representatives
of mass media, relatives,
children and many others.
It was organized in the
context of the Family Day
celebrated also in May.
Our goal was to inform all
stakeholders about Neoumanist
activities and to try
to involve the society into
helping the elderly in
need.
We invited children from
Straseni kindergarten and
students from Ion Vatamanu
Lyceum to perform
Outdoor picnic
a concert with songs and
poems about parents.
The writer, Marcela
Mardare, was also among
the guests. She came
with beautiful words of
congratulation and poems
and donated several
books to the Association’s
library.
Celebration culminated
with words of gratitude
from the relatives of our
beneficiaries and with a
traditional Moldovan
dance Hora, which united
the generations.
This day will remain deep
in the memory of those
present. It will remind
them of how important is
to remember that the
most precious in our lives
is the family and that no
matter how busy we are
we should visit our parents
and always show
them our love!

The 9th of May is celebrated
in the Eastern Europe
as Victory’s Day, while in the
West it is called Europe’s
Day. The Neoumanist staff
organized a special program
for this day. A song recital of
Gingasie Band from
O. Ghibu Lyceum from Chisinau,
Artistic Director
Dumitru Nirca, impressed
the audience. The elderly
recited poems and sang
songs. We congratulated
two veterans of the association:
Mogîldea Gheorghe
and Cutovaia Alexandra.
On the International Children’s
Day the Neoumanist
Association organized
a concert for our elderly.
They enjoyed the presence
and the talents of the
children from Straseni kindergarten
and the students
from N. Nekrasov Lyceum.
Besides, the children of the
Faina Lelicova sung for children
staff members recited poems
and played funny
games with the elderly. They
all danced, participated in
competitions and the spirit of
happiness and joy prevailed
during the event!

Activities at Neoumanist
Chess Day at Neoumanist
On April 30 the Librarian’s
Day was celebrated. The
administration and the
beneficiaries of the Neoumanist
Association attended
a festive concert in
the House of Arts from Straseni.
On June 06 the International
Day of the Kiss
was organized. Shy, gentle,
affectionate, stylish,
friendly, sensual, political,
etc. – this small gesture
can take many forms. We
designed a poster with kiss
prints of the beneficiaries.
This activity caused many
smiles on their faces and
brought a lot of positive
emotions to our beneficiaries.
On June 09 the International
Friendship Day -
the beneficiaries remembered
and spoke about
their friends. They drew
cards with wishes for their
closest friends, which later
were sent by mail. June 11
was decreed the Day of
Chocolate. This is one of
the sweetest days of the
year. On July 12 the
World’s Chess Day - the
Neoumanist Association
organized “a contest of the
mind”. At the end of the competition
all the beneficiaries
were awarded with sweets
and small gifts. August 02
the International Youth Day -
is a special day for young
people. But it is entirely a
special day for those who
are still young in their
soul. The Neoumanist Association
organized a dance
party for the beneficiaries, so
that everyone forgot about
the age-specific problems
and was delighted by the joy
and liveliness.

Visit of the Beloved Person
This spring brought an
event that has warmed the
souls and hearts of the elderly
and the staff—the visit
of Vanja Kiseljak. This time
she arrived with her friend.
During one week she tried
to meet all the elderly and
friends from the organization.
The elderly talked to
her and remembered the
beautiful moments they
spent together. Much joy
and great respect for this
courageous girl could be
read on their faces.
Nevertheless their lack of
time she and her friend
were involved in the center’s
activities, especially in
the gardening.
All center employees
wanted to spend even a few
moments with Vanja. At the
end, she has promised to
come again next spring.

New Internship

of the Bremen University
had their internship during
June 24 – July 21 at
Neoumanist. The main
objective was to apply in
practice the knowledge and
to gain new experience.

spent at Spectru home for
the elderly where they
gained and shar ed
experience with the staff.

Each student visited the

beneficiaries at home, where
they could get familiarized
with the village life and the
living conditions of the
elderly. The students also
did volunteer work and spent
a lot of their free time with
the elderly. The beneficiaries
of the Association got very
much attached to the
students from Germany.
Althogh the language barrier
existed, they had managed
to establish beautiful
friendship relations. The
students organized meetings
with the beneficiaries where
they provided an overview of
Germany, their native towns
and presented information
about the most frequent
diseases of the elderly. The

Meet the Team
Mindrila Ecaterina

worked at a plant in Chisinau,
and then in Straseni.
Together with her husband
she build a house, brought
up two sons and took care of
her parents. Since 2006 she
works at Neoumanist Association
as a nurse. She loves
helping people and taking
care of them.
Aurelia Turcan was born in
1967 in Straseni. She is
married and has a daughter.
After secondary school she

Municipality. Upon graduating
the school she entered
the Electro-Mechanical College
from Chisinau, Techstudied
at a vocational school
in Chisinau. She begun working
as a confectioner at Mezon
factory in Chisinau,
which was followed by Drumetul
Restaurant. In 1997
she was employed as a cook
at a home for elderly in Chisinau.
In 2004 she started
working as a cook at Neoumanist
Association. She dedicated
13 years of her professional
activity to the elderly
because she wants to improve
the quality of their lives
and to be sure that they have
healthy meals.

Versluis actively involved in the
daily activities of the center. Anja
and Wanda have planted different
kind of seeds in the garden, which
are used now for the beneficiaries’
healthy meal. The volunteers spent
one day with Home Care team and
helped beneficiaries at home.

Wanda Versluis is a professional
photographer. She has taken a lot of
pictures of the most interesting and
funny moments during her stay in
Moldova.

Schouten have been acting
as volunteers at Neoumnanist
Association for more than one
week. This is their second visit to
the Association. Annemieke
helped a lot in the Spectru Home
for the Elderly and Isabelle – in
the Home Care project.

Association during a week.
Pieternel Dekkers is an old friend
of the Association who has been
providing assistance since the
foundation of the Association.
She is responsible for recruitment
of volunteers in Holland.
This year her visit had an informative
character, i.e. she focused
on the relationship between
volunteers and staff
members and vice versa.
It is the first time Harmke visits
Moldova as a volunteer in a
Harmke van Kuilenburg and

social project. She is an artistic
nature who tried to find beauty
in the elderly souls and to draw
it on paper. One day Harmke
and Home care team provided
social services to home care
beneficiaries.
Astrid Hopstaken and the Bragas
Astrid Hopstaken is a friend of
the Neoumanist Association.
She visited the organization for
the second time. In a few days
she managed to do a lot. Astrid
joined the Home Care team for
a day and established new contacts
with the elderly. She had a
meeting with the Bragas - the
elderly she adopted.

What Is
a Casa Mare?
"Casa mare" or
House of happiness.
Is the most beautiful
room in the
Moldovan house. It
is not just a living
room; it's also a
memorial to the
family clan. The
walls are decorated
with photos of tile
parents, children,
and grandchildren
and with embroidered
homespun
towels.
We would like to thank
everyone who donated
money, goods or physical
support and wish
them all the best. Special

Casa Mare Museum
Neoumanist Association,
together with the beneficiaries,
decided to create a
small corner of the traditional
Moldovan Casa Mare.
It was designed to keep in
memory the occupations of
our ancestors and the ancestral
traditions. Exhibits
have been collected by the
staff and Association’s
grandparents. They wanted
very much that old objects
which remained heritage
from their families are admired
by others. Thus,
more than 70 exhibits were

shawls), embroidery dating
from the ’50s, ’60s of
last century, traditional
laces, pillowcases, blankets
and towels. One of
oldest exhibits aged over
100 years is the wooden
trough for kneading dough
for pies. All these represent
rich treasures of our
culture.
