rapid assessment of the impact of the fiscal crisis in swaziland - IRIN

Approval to conduct the survey was sought from the relevant authorities. Prior to visiting

households, authorities within constituencies (Tinkhundla) were informed about the survey

and their consent obtained to work in EAs located within. Consent was sought from each

household head (anyone responsible for household) to take part in the interviews, using a

consent statement that was read and understood by the household head. It was also clarified

that refusing to participate did not jeopardize access to services or information of any kind to

any community or individuals.

Household distribution in the actual survey

As a result of the above procedures and realities in the field, 1334 households were surveyed

(97% of those sampled). The composition of households surveyed in the Rapid Assessment –

by region, vulnerability type and gender of household head – is depicted in Table II.
