SPECIFIC MEASURES TAKEN FOR PROMOTING THE USE OF HINDI<br />
Quarterly progress report (QPR)<br />
10.2 With a view to assessing the work done by the employees in Hindi in their official<br />
work, more effectively the Department of Official Language has introduced a new<br />
proforma for QPR from September, 2008.<br />
Training in Hindi Teaching, Hindi Typewriting and Hindi Stenography<br />
10.2.1Out of a total of 23 typists (clerks), 12 were nominated for Hindi typing training and<br />
out of a total of 74 stenographers, 08 were nominated for Hindi stenography training.<br />
Cash Awards and Incentive Schemes<br />
10.2.2An incentive scheme to encourage officers and employees to do more work in<br />
Hindi is in vogue in the Ministry. Under this scheme cash awards are given for doing<br />
noting and drafting in Hindi. This year ten officials have been selected in this scheme.<br />
Cash prizes of total of Rs 5300/- was awarded to these officials for noting and<br />
drafting.<br />
Celebration of Hindi Divas and Hindi Pakhwara<br />
10.2.3On the occasion of Hindi Divas on 14 September, 2008, MOS(PP) issued an appeal<br />
to all the officers and staff of the Ministry to make more and more use of Hindi in<br />
their official work. During Hindi Pakhwara (from 14 September, 2008 to 28<br />
September, 2008), Hindi stenography, Hindi typewriting, Hindi essay writing, Hindi<br />
dictation, Hindi noting and drafting, Hindi speech competition, translation, and Hindi<br />
poetry recitation competitions have been organized and the participants, who have<br />
stood first, second and third and also those who have come out with commendable<br />
performance was given cash prizes as also certificates. A total amount of Rs.30000/<br />
- was given in the form of cash prizes to 50 successful contestants. Out of the 50<br />
successful contestants, number of women was 16.<br />
Hindi Workshops<br />
10.2.4Two Hindi Workshops were organized in May and September 2008 in New Delhi to<br />
impart practical training to the officials to enable them to do more and more official<br />
work in Hindi.<br />
