General Description: Despite the addition <strong>of</strong> the .Deltarib metal ro<strong>of</strong>,<br />
the building retains its integrity <strong>and</strong>, is a contributing element to<br />
the architectural <strong>and</strong> historic unity <strong>of</strong> theneighborhood,excellent<br />
condition.<br />
<strong>Historic</strong> Significance: This building is significant .becauseit .is one <strong>of</strong><br />
five Tudor Revival buildings in the survey area which demonstrates<br />
<strong>Juneau</strong>'s vernacular interpretation on national styles, because <strong>of</strong> its<br />
association with <strong>Juneau</strong> government figu~e, Frank Metcalf, <strong>and</strong> because<br />
it demonstrates patterns <strong>of</strong> community development in <strong>Juneau</strong>, Alaska.<br />
The first residents were the Metcalf family. He was a civil engineer<br />
<strong>and</strong> surveyor <strong>and</strong>. ··in the 1920's <strong>and</strong> 30's.•served as city engineer for<br />
<strong>Juneau</strong>.<br />
