Voith variable speed turbo couplings can

now also be operated with water. This

opens up many new fields of application.

These new couplings combine a new

concept with proven technology. The

SVTW variable speed turbo coupling has

been developed for the speed control of

pumps in irrigation systems. As a result

of automatically adapting the pump speed

it keeps the water pressure in the irrigation

system constant. Other fields of

application are municipal water supply

systems, waste water and sewage water

systems. Further applications are water

supply systems for power plants, steel

plants and chemical plants.

The application of SVTW variable speed turbo

couplings results in significant benefits:

Design and function

Voith variable speed turbo couplings are hydrodynamic

couplings. They transmit energy by

the dynamic forces of a circulating fluid. By varying

the position of a scoop tube reaching into

the working chamber, the quantity of fluid in the

coupling can be changed.

Thus the speed of the driven machine can be

varied steplessly during operation. Compactly

designed and easily installed, the coupling can

be flanged to the main motor. The result is a

compact drive unit.

The water required for power transmission can

be taken from and fed back into a cooling water

or service water system. It is also possible to

pipe the medium delivered by the pump through

the water coupling.
