In a week-long visit to Liberty Hall, children become time travelers and<br />

experience the 225-year history of this renowned museum. Junior tour<br />

guides share historical crafts, activities and games with new visitors to<br />

DNA and why it is important in the study of the human body.<br />

The proverb “variety is the spice of life” captures the approach to reading and<br />

writing in this course. Exploring a rich array of stories and poems from different<br />

cultures, countries, and generations, students learn to identify literary devices<br />

and incorporate them into their own writing. For example, students might read<br />

Verna Aardema’s Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears: A West African Tale and<br />

then write their own pour quoi tales to explain natural phenomena.<br />

A course designed to develop the student’s creativity of written expression.<br />

Students will investigate the elements of creativity as it relates to writing, thereby<br />

tapping into their imaginations. Writing opportunities appropriate to various<br />

literary forms are provided. Topics include mysteries, poetry, setting, mood, plot<br />

dialogue, and creation of characters. Students will also receive a published copy<br />

of their work!<br />

SESSION I: “Let’s Put on a Show”<br />

Recommended for Middle School Students:<br />

Ages 11 – 14 (reservations required)<br />

Students enrolled in “Let’s Put on A Show” will learn the<br />

elements of acting and play development through innovative,<br />

active exercises and games that help them translate<br />

their creative ideas and impulses into fully conceptualized<br />

and mountable original performances for the stage.<br />

Working with professional actors, directors and playwrights<br />

in a fun, creative and collaborative environment, campers<br />

will craft and star in their own showcase. This camp session<br />

culminates in a public performance of the campers’ work<br />

developed over the two-week period, followed by a<br />

certificate presentation and reception for the participants.<br />

SESSION II: “Taking the Stage”<br />

Recommended for High School Students:<br />

Ages 15 – 18 (reservations required)<br />

Students enrolled in “Taking the Stage” focus on the craft<br />

of acting including scene work, audition technique,<br />

monologue preparation, movement and voice/speech.<br />

Students have the chance to work closely with professional<br />

actors and directors, as well as guest artists in fields<br />

such as stage combat, casting and improvisation. Campers<br />

perform monologues as well as scenes from original plays<br />

that have been developed through the Premiere Stages<br />

Play Festival. This camp session culminates in a public<br />

performance of the monologues and scenes, followed by a<br />

certificate presentation and reception for the participants.<br />

Campers will be introduced to cross-discipline design in the areas of advertising,<br />

promotion, industrial, interactive and interiors. Activities include individual studio<br />

National Museum of Design in New York, group and team projects, critiques,<br />

and final portfolio reception and exhibit. Interested campers should submit<br />
