A diverse course schedule provides training in Theatre, Playwriting, Dance, History, Science, Chamber Music,
Visual Art, Diplomacy, Public Relations and Sports. These exceptional programs are offered in collaborations
with Premiere Stages, Liberty Hall Museum, American String Teachers Association, Carolyn Dorfman Dance
Company, The College of Visual and Performing Arts at Kean, Eldridge Overton Educational Programs, Kean
University Athletics and working professionals / teaching artists in all these fields. Camp sessions are one or
two weeks in duration and campus housing is offered for some areas of study.
Enrollment is limited and advanced registration is required.

HISTORY
DAY CAMP
Two one-week sessions:
SESSION I: July 25 through July 29, 2011
SESSION II: August 22 through August 26, 2011
TIME: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
In a week-long visit to Liberty Hall, children become time travelers and
experience the 225-year history of this renowned museum. Junior tour
guides share historical crafts, activities and games with new visitors to
the museum. At the end of the week, children will serve as the host to
their parents and guardians at an exhibition and tea party!

Have you ever wondered what was inside of your body that made it grow?
Maybe you have wondered why your sister was a math whiz, but you were better
in English? Perhaps you would like to know how detectives solve crimes the
“CSI way”. Students in this course will learn about the purpose and structure of
DNA and why it is important in the study of the human body.
Recommended for ages 8-12 years old.

THE DEBATE TEAM
Two consecutive weeks - Daily 3 hour sessions
July 11 through July 22, 2011
TIME: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
This course is designed to build student confidence by teaching public speaking
techniques and debate skill strategies. Students will participate in mock trials and
learn to prepare speeches. This course will prepare your future district attorney
to argue his case in front of the Supreme Court!
Recommended for ages 8-12 years old.

MULTICULTURAL LITERATURE
Two consecutive weeks - Daily 3 hour sessions
July 11 through July 22, 2011
TIME: Monday through Friday, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
The proverb “variety is the spice of life” captures the approach to reading and
writing in this course. Exploring a rich array of stories and poems from different
cultures, countries, and generations, students learn to identify literary devices
and incorporate them into their own writing. For example, students might read
Verna Aardema’s Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears: A West African Tale and
then write their own pour quoi tales to explain natural phenomena.

THE WRITER’S CLUB
Two consecutive weeks - Daily 3 hour sessions
July 25 through August 5, 2011
TIME: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
A course designed to develop the student’s creativity of written expression.
Students will investigate the elements of creativity as it relates to writing, thereby
tapping into their imaginations. Writing opportunities appropriate to various
literary forms are provided. Topics include mysteries, poetry, setting, mood, plot
dialogue, and creation of characters. Students will also receive a published copy
of their work!

This class is designed for 1st – 3rd grade children. The class focus will be on
mastering phonics skills, comprehension skills, and becoming a fluent reader. This
is an excellent class for children who are facing reading challenges. All topics are
in alignment with the New Jersey’s Core Curriculum Content Standards.

Bring out the mathematician in your child! Students in Singapore score at the top on
international math tests, while their counterparts continue to struggle with math.
This course provides an introduction to the Singaporean method and concentrates
on understanding concepts rather than rote learning and memorization.

SESSION I: “Let’s Put on a Show”
Recommended for Middle School Students:
Ages 11 – 14 (reservations required)
Students enrolled in “Let’s Put on A Show” will learn the
elements of acting and play development through innovative,
active exercises and games that help them translate
their creative ideas and impulses into fully conceptualized
and mountable original performances for the stage.
Working with professional actors, directors and playwrights
in a fun, creative and collaborative environment, campers
will craft and star in their own showcase. This camp session
culminates in a public performance of the campers’ work
developed over the two-week period, followed by a
certificate presentation and reception for the participants.

SESSION II: “Taking the Stage”
Recommended for High School Students:
Ages 15 – 18 (reservations required)
Students enrolled in “Taking the Stage” focus on the craft
of acting including scene work, audition technique,
monologue preparation, movement and voice/speech.
Students have the chance to work closely with professional
actors and directors, as well as guest artists in fields
such as stage combat, casting and improvisation. Campers
perform monologues as well as scenes from original plays
that have been developed through the Premiere Stages
Play Festival. This camp session culminates in a public
performance of the monologues and scenes, followed by a
certificate presentation and reception for the participants.

THINKING CREATIVELY
DESIGN CAMP
One three and a half weeks session:
July 6 through July 28, 2011
TIME: Monday - Thursday 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Campers will be introduced to cross-discipline design in the areas of advertising,
promotion, industrial, interactive and interiors. Activities include individual studio
projects, a design charrette, field trips to a professional design studio and the
National Museum of Design in New York, group and team projects, critiques,
and final portfolio reception and exhibit. Interested campers should submit
application form along with samples of creative work (CD, DVD, or email PDF).

PRICE: Standard option for 14 day camp is $875.
For incoming RBSD/Kean freshmen, there is an option to receive three college
