Mr <strong>Hurley</strong> is an experienced Ophthalmic surgeon who in his career has performed over 7,000 refractive<br />

procedures and over 20,000 intraocular surgeries to date.<br />

Following his graduation from University College Cork School of Medicine in 1984, Mr <strong>Hurley</strong> gained<br />

experience in a range of specialities before commencing his career in Ophthalmology in January 1988. He<br />

served as a Senior House Officer then Registrar in Hospitals in Dublin and Cork before taking the post of<br />

Senior Registrar in Coventry & Warwickshire Hospital in 1996.<br />

Following the completion of his basic training in 1998, Mr <strong>Hurley</strong> worked as a Locum Consultant<br />

Ophthalmologist at the North Staffordshire Hospital before beginning an Ocular Oncology & Oculo-plastic<br />

surgery Fellowship at the Tennent Institute in Ophthalmology in Glasgow. In 1999, he took up the post of<br />

Consultant Ophthalmologist at James Paget Hospital, Great Yarmouth before returning to Cork in January<br />

2001 to commence a full time private practice in Ophthalmology where he helped set up a cataract and<br />

excimer laser unit within local hospitals.<br />

During his career, he has published many papers in peer reviewed journals and has been invited as a guest<br />

speaker and presenter at a variety of seminars. Mr <strong>Hurley</strong> is an experienced examiner and teacher, having<br />

lectured at Medical Schools across the UK and Ireland.<br />

He also conducts regular audits of the results of his activities, surgeries and patient satisfaction surveys,<br />

highlighting his commitment to his field and his dedication to outstanding clinical outcomes.<br />

Mr <strong>Hurley</strong> is an active member of affiliated bodies and societies such as the International Society of<br />

Refractive <strong>Surgeon</strong>s (ISRS) and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS). Mr<br />

<strong>Hurley</strong> regularly attends meetings and conferences, participating in workshops at these for the past ten<br />
