STAFF:.
Mr. Jannarong Mekindharangkura, Assistant Administrative Secretary, resigned
at the end of his probation period in May, 1982.
Mrs. Amaraporn Anantato, Curator for the Kamthieng House resigned to
further her studies in November, 1982.
Miss Surat Nujcharern was employed as Assistant Librarian in May, 1982.
All in all, the Committee is satisfied with the staff's discharge of their duties.
The Administrative Secretary and other members of the staff have been working with
conscientiousness and dedication throughout the year having willingly contributed
their own time outside office hours to help in all aspects of the Society's activities at
its home and on excursions.
At present the Society has 13 personnel on the staff.
The Employment Rules and Regulations for the employees of the Siam Society
approved in principle by the Council in 1980 had been revised and made effective
since September, 1982.
The Revised Providence Funds for the Society's employees were proposed and
approved by the Council at the 775th Council Meeting in 1982.
TAX OBLIGATIONS:
The Society paid a new rate of land tax at 25,156.00 Baht for 1982 after an
appeal tol the authorities concerned for favourable reconsideration in view of the
Society being a non-profit body.
Beginning January 1983 a tax of 5% will be levied on all income except donations
and membership fees. Since the Siam Society is a non-profit institution and the
Society performs an important cultural task in Thailand in various fields e.g. promoting
the arts, publishing new research, preserving natural and cultural heritage in many
ways as well as encouraging students and other groups to further these goals, the
Society will·continue, as it has done in the past, to negotiate with the tax authorities
with a view to bringing about a tax waiver or reduction.
HONORARY POSTS:
In order to relieve the heavy work load on tlieHonorary Secretary, the Council
has appointed Mrs. Virginia M. Di Crocco as Assistant Honorary Secretary.
INSURANCE:
In the past the property of the Siam Society had been underinsured. Through
Mr. Vivadh na Pombejra, Vice-President, an intermediary re-assessment of value and
arrangement with the Samakki Insurance Company are being worked out to have the
Society's property insured at a new concessionary rate.
