Fake It Till You Make It… Out Alive…

After all of the time planning, the organizing and

the brushing up on survival skills… the zombies

are here. As they roam the streets in their

catatonic states, trying to locate their prey you

realize that there is no time to get away. What

to do??? Slather yourself up in dead zombie

remains, paint your face and do your best

impression of a dragging walk. Blend in until you

can get far enough away to run for cover. Keep

moving, keep low, keep quiet and keep alert.

Looking forward to seeing you all in your zombie

best this week on the field!

In the coming weeks be

prepared to learn the

tactics needed to keep

you alive and if you

have some tips that

you would like to share

World Adult Kickball Association

HALL OF FAME

Fall 2012

ABQ WAKA Hall of Fame Inductees

Alfredo “Fredo” Moreno

New Mexico Playing Career: 2004-2009

Alfredo Moreno’s adult kickball career in the Land of Enchantment began in the

spring of 2004 in a boozy grassroots pick-up game on the then-unforgiving sandlots

of Tingley Field and concluded in the fall of 2009 with another N.M. Mesa runnerup(ish)

finish by the now-nationally renowned Team Zissou.

In between, Moreno helped the World Famous Cool Arrow Kickball Club capture three Cottonwood Classic

titles, a Southwest Region crown, and become the first team west of the Mississippi to reach the semifinals

of the WAKA Founders Cup in Washington, D.C. After a brief retirement, he was pulled off the scrap heap

by Dillycones captain Tiffany Ficklin in 2007, and went on to enjoy two years of above average kickball

captainship and amazing fellowship with the many extraordinary members of the BDBR Adventure Club,

Team Zissou, Flint Tropics, and Choose Your Own Adventure squads.

Moreno currently directs the “Fun As F--k!!, Inc.” kickball franchises in WAKA-less Portland, Ore. and intends

to keep playing “the beautiful game” as long as modern medicine will allow him.

TOP CAREER MOMENT: Running, over-the-shoulder, right field catch of a would-be Jake Bailey homerun in

the near-sunless final inning of the 2004 Cottonwood Classic championship game to help preserve the Cool

Arrow’s improbable victory.

WORST CAREER MOMENT: Trading himself off his own team for one season in a woeful attempt to escape a

soured romantic entanglement.

Summer 2012 ABQ WAKA Hall of Fame Inductees

Tiffany Nickerson, H.o.F. #1:

In 2004, Tiffany Nickerson began working for the World Adult Kickball Association

by becoming New Mexico’s first WAKA Customer Service Representative.

Thanks to Tiffany’s efforts, the New Mexico Mesa League was born. Not only

was Tiffany able to build a league, but she also introduced WAKA to locally

owned Graphic Connections who became the sole source for WAKA league

shirts in the region. Because of her efforts, Graphic Connections also supply

signage for the Kickball Games and Founders Cup.

Finally, Tiffany served as the captain of the Dillycones, a team who quickly

became synonymous with New Mexico kickball. The true meaning of Dillycones

remains a secret held by former players….but if you get that chance,

buy the Hall of Famer a Dillycone shot and give her a big Thank You for all

she’s done and brought to New Mexico.

Keith LeChien, H.o.F. #2:

Keith LeChien took over the CRS of NM Mesa due to wanting to throw the best WAKA parties. And he

did just that. Keith made it cool to play kickball and grew the league from 5 teams to 15 teams in his

prime. Keith also started the first summer season as well as the Sunday league, NM Sandia. Keith was a

member and captain of the following teams: Dillycones (FC 2008), The Cougars and The Clam Chops (FC

2009). It is always a party with the Hall of Famer “Crazy Donnie” Keith LeChien.

Hall of Fame Selection Committee: Keith Jansen, Amy Weingartner, Adam Chavez, Paul Norris
