Captain Billy Bowlegs, 55
aptain Billy Bowlegs LV, Bruce Marshall, grew
up on a farm in Illinois raising corn, soy beans
and hogs. Never having a desire to be a farmer,
Bruce attended Arizona State University where he
graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and
received his commission through Air Force ROTC.
His 24 year Air Force career brought him to Florida
for the first time in the early 70s to get his MBA from
the University of Central Florida and culminated
in Florida in 1990 – 1993 as the Air Base Wing
Commander at Eglin AFB. During his tour as commander,
Bruce and Debbie enjoyed many Bowlegs
parties and the ensuing friendships that grew from
the association. After 24 years of moving the family
around the country, Bruce and Debbie chose to
make their home on the Emerald Coast. He has
continued working in the defense business since his
retirement and is currently President of Marshall Enterprises, a management and consulting company.
Bruce has been involved in the local community both on active duty and since retirement. He
has served on the Boards of United Way, The Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce,
where he served as Chairman in 2006, and the Air Force Armament Museum. He also served on
the Board of the Mental Health Association and was President in 2001 – 2004. He has been active
in the Air Force Association serving as Region / State President in 2002 – 2004 and on the National
Board from 2004 – 2007.
Bruce joined the Krewe of Bowlegs in 1996 and served on the Honor Guard of Captain Billy XLV,
Dick Roberts in 1999-2000. He has served on the Krewe’s Board of Directors every year since being
on the Honor Guard and has chaired or co-chaired many of the major events. He and his wife
Debbie served as First Mate and Mistress for Captain Billy LIII, Brock Fisher in 2007 -2008.
Debbie was born and raised in Ft. Washington, MD. She has been in local real estate for the past
13 years. She is a sales agent with Pelican Real Estate and Development Company. Debbie has
been a volunteer in support of school activities and various other charities. Debbie currently serves
on the Board of the William Augustus Bowles MUSEUM and Historical Foundation. In their spare
time they like to play on the water in the summer and snow ski in Colorado in the winter.
Bruce and Debbie have 4 sons and 7 grandchildren; Barry and his wife Michelle live in Manila, Philippines
with their three children Stevii, Davis and Jaron; Brad and his two children Julian and Ellie in
Newton, KS; Jason and his wife Kay with their son Gates and daughter Delaney live in Westminster,
CO; and Neil and his wife Erin, live in Broomfield, CO. Pictured with Bruce and Debbie is Grandson,
Gates Marshall who played the role of a “mini Captain” - back in time for the “Back to the Future”
55th Coronation. Bruce and Debbie live in Shalimar.
