PROFIBUS DP/PA<br />
PROFIBUS links field devices such as<br />
distributed I/O or drives with automation<br />
systems such as SIMATIC S7<br />
programmable controllers, SIMOTION or<br />
PCs.<br />
PROFIBUS, which is based on the<br />
IEC 61158/EN 50170 St<strong>and</strong>ard, is a<br />
powerful, open, rugged fieldbus system<br />
with short response times.<br />
The following protocols are available <strong>for</strong><br />
process or field communication with<br />
PROFIBUS:<br />
PROFIBUS DP<br />
(distributed peripherals)<br />
PROFIBUS DP is used to connect<br />
distributed field devices such as SIMATIC<br />
ET 200 ® or drives with very fast response<br />
times.<br />
PROFIBUS PA<br />
(Process <strong>Automation</strong>)<br />
PROFIBUS PA is an exp<strong>and</strong>ed version of<br />
PROFIBUS DP which offers intrinsically<br />
safe data <strong>and</strong> power transmission (e.g.<br />
measuring transducers in the food<br />
industry) in con<strong>for</strong>mance with<br />
International St<strong>and</strong>ard IEC 6158-2.<br />
PROFIBUS DP/PA is used when<br />
actuators/sensors in the machine or plant<br />
(e.g. at the field level) are widely<br />
distributed <strong>and</strong> can be spatially combined<br />
in a single station (such as the ET 200).<br />
In this case, the actuators/sensors are<br />
connected to the field devices, which are<br />
supplied with output data as per the<br />
master/slave principle <strong>and</strong> provide the<br />
controller or PC with input data.<br />
At SIMOTION's drive interface, the<br />
isochrone PROFIBUS is supported by<br />
PROFIdrive's "drive engineering" profile.<br />
