fundamental problems and generally needs
longer to catch up.’ Nombret adds:‘We’ve
noticed that countries that are late in advertising
development go straight for dynamic signs.’
Michael Kaczmarek has observed some other
developments.‘Global market trends have been
volatile with strong fluctuation in Europe as the
economic currency and trade demands have
slowed.’ Kaczmarek suggests that global trading
of manufactured raw material supplies has been
unexpectedly costly for him and his competitors.
Coupled with the effect of China’s strong
growth, this has affected market share and ‘contributed
to slower growth in Europe.’
While the trivision technology is stable on
large billboard markets, a lot of scrolling signs
with customised designs have been installed in
the last few years.‘In the past, outdoor advertisers
worked on their designs with big design
agencies but today they are increasingly opting
for cheaper products’, says Olivier Nombret.
Distec’s Kaczmarek has seen demand for trivision
technology diminish while scrolling is being
seen as the more efficient and safer technology.
‘Scrolling is driving the growth of indoor and outdoor
markets which means it can be perceived as
the total solution in both advertising markets.’
Jonas Österberg sees safety and rationalising
operations as major issues for outdoor advertisers.‘Strong
safety regulations need addressing,
as do increasing labour costs. In terms of the
main technical changes in the market, LED technology
has had some success in the US and will
be reserved for prism sites. Our Autoposting system
has a huge potential for the same reasons.’
Scrolling specialist Nombret suggests that
improved operational solutions are the key
developments in trivision and scrollers.
Michael Kaczmarek points to increasing
demand for total solutions regarding technology,
servicing, durability and operational functions.
While his company stands to benefit from
its investment in such solutions, generally, he
says,‘The current market is still falling short of
client expectations’.
The future is now
Advances in technology and scope are being
made all the time. Earlier this year, Prismaflex
installed the largest indoor trivision project in
the world (500 sq m) at the Johannesburg international
airport in South Africa. JC Decaux UK
and Clear Channel UK have converted all their
trivisions into Prismaposting Paper in order to
make the posting more cost effective and to
solve the problem of theft. Affiches Pisoni, a
French outdoor operator will install seventy
8m paper scrollers all along the French Riviera
early in 2005.
The coming year will be a good one for manufacturers
if predictions are correct. Olivier
Nombret at Prismaflex is already seeing an
increasing number of projects from small and
medium size advertisers, who are aspiring to the
same standards as their large compatriots.
At Distec, projections are equally positive.‘We
are seeing increased growth, higher demand, further
development of custom designs and service
provision’, said Kaczmarek.‘This in turn means we
will increase our production and solutions to our
clients across the world.’
