You know what? Balcony is a great place to start your day! A good
power breakfast before you hit the surf, lunch time menus and refreshing
pure juices to cool off when its hot outside, there’s really no better
place to hang out and read the latest surf magazines and catch up on
the latest surf reports with fellow surfers at the Balcony. Last but not
least best part of the day would have to be dinnertime! That’s when
our famous Balcony frozen margaritas comes out to play!
Last week we had the boys from Shaggy Dog band in town…they were
performing for the Rip Curl Surf N’ Music Festival at halfway beach.
We had some warm-up drinks at The Balcony before Shaggy Dog
went up on stage at the beach. The boys went mad!
Dyou Worawong
Tell us about your self : I am from Thailand and I love to
surf. The first time I came to Bali, I was only 5 years old.
Bali back than seemed to have less traffic and surfers in the
water.
Now I’m 15 and the last few years, I live here full time in
Bali, but in the summer and Christmas holidays i would go
back to Thailand.
Where do you live & What your days like, School, plays,
Hobby, etc ?
I live in the Bukit - Uluwatu, and go to School in BIS (Bali International
School) Sanur. I would go surfing after school if i
don’t have too much homework. Good surf breaks are walking
distance from my house. My other hobbies are : Skate,
Powersurf (A board that has two wheels) and eating.
Surfing A-Z
- My first board was a 5’11 Bruce Hansel Board
Now my board are 5’8, 5’9 and a 5’10
- Memorable surfing sessions were surfing 4-5 foot barreling uluwatu with my friends. And surfing in a beachbreak in Thailand
where I caught about a hundred waves in an hour.
- My homebreak is Padang padang right hander and Uluwatu
- Favorite spot is probably Uluwatu, Dreamland andalso Kata beach in Phuket, Thailand
- Best Wave : Getting a long barrel in Impossibles.
- Worst surfing session : Surfing onshore one foot at Padang right
- My surfing buddies are Max, Luan, Luca, Django, Sy, Matt and more
- For me, a good surfing session should have a lot of waves, mellow people and laughs
- Sponsors ?? I don’t have any sponsor right now, but It would be cool to have one and support me. Because I really like to
compete in surf competitions.
- Fav surf moves / tricks ? I like doing big grab turns, cutbacks, floaters and barrels
Messages to fellow surfers & Magic Wave readers
- Well ... we could do beach clean ups at every Magic Wave Surf competition. So we can have a cleaner beach and ocean.
- if you happen to surf don’t get too angry at someone if they drop in on you or something ..... Just calm down and be mellow.
Its not the last wave your gonna get.
Profile middle surfer kali ini berasal dari Nusa Lembongan yang
bernama I Gede Sanjaya, nama kerennya SAN. Ia sedang sibuk
mengurus sebuah villa pribadi milik bosnya dari australia. So, ketemu
dipantai tamarind (lembongan.red) dan langsung ngobrol ttg
surfing
Hai buddy apa kabar?
Kabar baik bro.
Awal mula kamu surfing gimana?
Aku mulai surfing dari kelas 5 SD. Ya aku lihat kakakku surfing jadinya
ikut-ikutan dan ampe sekarang kecanduan. Surfing udah jadi
bagian hidupku
Spot favorite kamu dimana?
Aku sangat suka playground-nusa lembongan. Ombaknya simple
tapi sekarang sudah semakin ramai.
Surfer favorite kamu siapa?
Kalau local surfer aku suka rizal tanjung. Surfer luar aku suka kelly
slatter.
So, surfing kasi aku banyak hal.ga
Cuma fun juga bisa kasi aku kerjaan.
Kamu kan goofy kok taruh legrope dikaki kanan? ga takut kakimu
terlilit legrope pas diblender ombak?
Hahhahaha. Sejak pertama kali surfing aku ga bs taruh legrope
di kaki kiri. Kalau aku taruh di kaki kiri, kaki kiriku terasa berat
banget dan ga nyaman. Jadinya ampe sekarang deh kayak gini.
Sempet juga pas aku dapet wipeout aku lama dibawah air garagara
kakiku terlilit legrope.hahahhaha
Musik yang paling km suka?
RnB. Aku suka banget black eye peas dan pitt bull. Tapi paling
mantap denger ini ditemani sebotol bir. Yahuuuddd bgt bro.
hal lain yang kamu suka selain surfing?
Of course. BBQ ma temen-temen di pantai.
Pesan buat magicwave donk?
Ayo support terus local surfer.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Middle surfer profile in this edition from Nusa Lembongan named I
Gede Sanjaya, his friend call him SAN. He is busy to manage a private
villa of his bos from OZ. So, we made a plan to meet him during
his free time on the tamarind beach (lembongan.red) and interview
him.
Hai buddy, how are you doin?
I’m good bro
How did you start to surf?
I started to surf when i was fifth grade in elementary school. I saw
my brother went surfing, i followed him to surf and i got addicted till
now. Surfing is part of my life
Where is your favorite spot?
I like playground-nusa lembongan. This wave is so easy but now too
many people out there
Who are your favorite surfers?
For the local surfer, i like Rizal Tanjung and international surfer, kelly
slatter is the best
What is your favorite manuever?
I like to do floater and 3600. Almost every wave i try to do 3600.
I’m so stoked when i’m doing perfect 3600 on a wave.
What did you get from surfing?
Even i never join a contest, i got heaps things from surfing, absolutely
i got fun, more than that, i have heaps friends from outside indo. like
from OZ. From surfing my BOS from OZ gives his trust to manage his
villa, so surfing gives me alot of things not only fun but also the job.
Your style is goofy, why do you put your legrope on your right foot?
Dont you get afraid the legrope wind your foot when you get wipeout?
Hahahhaha. When i was surfing for the first time, i could’nt put
legrope on the left foot. If i put on my left foot, i feel my left foot is
heavy and not comfy. I get used to it until now. I have got wipeout
and i’m in the water for a long because the legrope wind my leg.hahhaha
What is your favorite music?
I like RnB. I really like black eye peas and pitt bull. It’s best when have
a beer to listen these songs. So good bro
Anything else you like beside surfing?
Of course BBQ on the beach with my buddies
Last word to Magic Wave?
Keep supporting local surfers
Thousands Rock Out on Kuta Beach; Raditya “Cabul” Rondi Charges to Victory at
Medewi Point Gives the Rip Groms Curl a Surf Challenge & Music at Festival. Rip Curl GromSearch in Bali
Text courtesy of Rip Curl
10th October 2011, Kuta-Bali: Thousands of people packed world-famous Kuta Beach for a weekend of award-winning music and epic surfing and skating
performances at the Rip Curl Surf & Music Festival on Sunday afternoon.
Kuta Beach local and Indonesia’s Number 2 ranked surfer Raditya “Cabul” Rondi charged through a field of highly skilled professional surfers to meet and
best last year’s winner and newly crowned 2011 Coca-Cola ISC Open Champion Marlon Gerber in an exciting final at the final tour event of the season.
For his win he receives the winners check of Rp 15 million (approximately $1,666 USD), 3,000 ISC championship points, and a beautiful guitar from Rip Curl.
Rondi held nothing back in the 25 minute final dual of the day that took place in front of thousands of spectators watching from the beach, starting his victory
charge by ripping apart his first wave and posting the highest scoring wave of the final, a 7.0 (out of a possible 10) to jump into a lead that he never
relinquished. Midway through the heat Gerber began to narrow the gap with a series of aerial maneuvers, but then Rondi took the air himself completing
a very difficult “Superman” aerial that got him a solid 6 points from the judges and punctuated his dominance in the final. When time ran out, his opponent
Gerber was still looking for a wave that would give him a shot at the 7 point score he needed for to win.
Rondi had a supremely satisfied smile back on the beach, saying, “It feels so good to finally win one from Marlon. We had a really close final in the Rote
contest and he won that one, so I’m really happy about this today.” “It’s the end of a great year and I would like to say a big thanks to my sponsor, to the
ISC crew, and to Rip Curl for everything!” he graciously added.
Cabul by Hamish
Cabul by Hamish
Marlon by Hamish
When asked about how he felt going into the final with the low tide conditions he replied, “I was watching the waves and saw a few lefts coming in during
the GromSearch final, so I felt pretty confident. I knew there were some waves out there and that I could get some good scores…after all this is my home
break!”
Gerber was characteristically relaxed after the final, saying in his laid-back style “I just went out there hoping I could get a couple of good waves, I wasn’t
thinking about winning or losing. Being in the final was good enough, really. I was lucky earlier today in my Round 4 heat against Gazali Hamzah, where
I got a good one at the last minute to win the heat, so I thought it might happen like that again in the final too. It’s been a great year for me, so I’m very
happy.” With his runner up finish today, it has indeed been a great year for the new Indonesian surfing champion, going from being the 6th ranked surfer
in 2010 to being the number 1 in 2011.
Each of the surfers are repeat Rip Curl Surf & Music Festival winners, Rondi having won in 2009 and Gerber in 2010.
Preceding the Open final was the much-anticipated National GromSearch final, which saw Ediana Putra from Nusa Lembongan, Raju Sena from Kuta, and
Deden Sutendi from West Java take on last’s year’s GromSearch winner Jeren Kiring for the ultimate grom prize of a trip to Australia to compete in next
year’s World GromSearch Finals at Bells Beach. It was heavy heat with all the groms going for broke at every opportunity in the often closing out low
tide beach break, but Ediana Putra’s combination of aerials, powerful hacks and quick floaters quickly got him into the lead and kept him there. Jeren
Kiring just couldn’t seem to put everything together on one wave for a big score, narrowly missing a couple of potentially high scores but not being able to
fully complete some radical maneuvers including a backside air reverse, so ended up in third place behind a charging Kuta local Raju Sena.
And though Kiring may have finished with a third place finish in the GromSearch final, he went home with the 2011 Coca-Cola ISC Junior Championship for
the second year in a row as Indonesia’s best junior (under 16 years of age) surfer.
In the Women’s Division final it was 3-time Coca-Cola ISC Women’s champion Yasnyiar “Bonne” Gea who added another win as well as another Women’s
Championship title to her impressive list of accomplishments as Indonesia’s top women’s surfer. When asked if all this winning is getting boring, she replied
“Winning is never boring when you are surfing. Competing is never easy so every win is special, especially like in today’s final when it was difficult for all
of us to find good scoring waves. I guess I just got lucky!” Gea wisely used patience and her experience to ferret out the best waves of the heat and score
the biggest points to dominate the final.
A new addition to the Rip Curl Surf & Music Festival this year was the Mirage Air Show, with Rp. 5 million up for grabs to the surfer who could launch and
land the biggest aerial. Eight of Bali’s best aerial specialists including Garut Widiarta, Lee Wilson, Betet Merta, Dede Suryana, Mustofa Jeksen, and
Mega Semadhi had the option of paddling or jet ski assist to get them into the air to impress the judges, who at one point included two beautiful Norwegian
beach beauties! The crowded beach was going crazy as each surfer went ballistic, flying as high as 2 meters into the air in their chase for that 5
million rupiah prize, and after the two heats were over and the judges reviewed and compared the video it was Lee Wilson who nabbed the cash with his
huge frontside air reverse.
Topping the list of the many highlights in today’s action was the exciting battle for the heat win by Rip Curl team riders Pepen Hendrik and Garut Widiarta
in Heat 5 of Round 4 with. Pepen came out of the gate firing, chalking up two big scores while Garut couldn’t seem to find anything and was slapping
the water in frustration. But with just over 5 minutes remaining in the heat he lit things up, slashing and ripping not one but two nice runners, one that
resulted in the events highest single wave score of 9.83 (out of a possible 10) as well an 8.24 combined to get him the highest combined heat score of
18.07 (out of 20) for the event, blitzing past Hendrik and winning the heat. Back on the beach Hendrik just smiled and shook his head, saying, “Wow…
that was a lot of fun…can you believe it? First there were big cheers for me, but then it all changed and everybody was cheering for Garut. That was
crazy!” For his big score, Widiarta received the Coca-Cola Highest Wave Score Award and Rp. 1 million.
Skate Competition
Over 100 skateboarders from all over Indonesia came to skate the street course built by Bali’s Motion Skate Park. Skaters of all ages spent Saturday
afternoon and late into the evening practising on the custom built park ready for Sunday Jam session with 5 million up for grabs. The highlight of the
skate competition -consisting of three different categories, Street Beginner, Street Open, and Mini Ramp, came when Rip Curl sponsored skater Dewa Oka
wowed the crowd en route to first place in the Open Street event, when he combined the used the half pipe as part of the street course causing traffic to
stop and stare as the crowds applause broke out. Local boy Sanghoe took the beginner street event as one of the youngest competitors in the field.
Music Festival
The culmination of the biggest event of the surfing year came to a head with some of Indonesia’s best musicians taking to a huge stage set up on the
beach directly after the awards ceremony. The beach was a sea of people, packed from the high water mark back to the Kuta beach road, all rocking
out to some of Indonesia’s finest musical acts. The show kicked off with local Bali bands King of Panda and Nymphea, before Yogyakarta act Endank
Soekamti warmed the stage for headliner Shaggy Dog, who had the whole beach jumping to some classic reggae hooks late into the night.
The Surf and music Festival is always a great event to end the season, said Rip Curl Marketing Manager James Hendy; this is the most iconic surf venue in
SE Asia where most of the boys surf everyday, so you can always guarantee they will put on a great show of surfing. To have such a huge crowd for the
music show was the perfect ending to another fantastic ISC tour year.
The Rip Curl Surf & Music festival 2011 is sponsored by Beach Hut, GUS, Smirnoff Ice. With media support by MAXIM, FHM, TRAX, Alam TV, JUICE, Area,
Kuta Karnival 2011
BALI kembali menggelar sebuah
even internasional Kuta Karnival
2011 yang telah berlangsung
pada Jum’at 14-16 Oktober 2011.
Even promosi pariwisata ini memasuki
tahun ke-9 yang bertema “Light
Up The World”. Panitia Kuta Karnival
(KK) tahun ini melakukan pengamanan
yang cukup ketat, dikarenakan
pagelaran KK merupakan
even yang bersifat internasional,
untuk mengantisipasi ancaman yang
bisa ditimbulkan,
Sebagai tujuan pariwisata yang
banyak diminati, Kuta memiliki
resiko besar terkait hal keamanan
apalagi acara ini menjadi ajang
promosi yang didatangi ribuan
masyarakat lokal dan wisatawan
mancanegara. Tahun ini seluruh
kegiatan even berlangsung di kawasan
pantai.
Acara dimulai pembukaan, pelepasan
parade yang telah dipusatkan
di depan Pura Segara
Desa Adat Kuta, tidak lagi parade
menggunakan jalan raya, Hal
ini dilakukan agar tidak mengganggu
kenyamanan kawasan Kuta
sebagai destinasi ( ucap Ketua
panitia Bp. Morgan ). Pada hari
pembukaan pelepasan anak penyu
ke laut yang melibatkan wisatawan
yang berada di areal pantai
secara bersama-sama, dengan
jumlah sekitar 500 ekor.
Pembukaan dihadiri oleh Kepala
Badan Sumber Daya Pengembangan
Pariwisata Kementerian Budaya
dan Pariwisata, Gede Pitana,
membuka Kuta Karnival, disaksikan
ratusan pengunjung bersama Bupati
Badung, AA Gede Agung. Dalam
sambutannya, ia berharap Kuta
Karnival ini mampu terus membaurkan
budaya lokal hingga internasional.
Selanjutnya acara dilanjutkan
dengan tabur bunga menggunakan
helikopter milik Kantor SAR Bali,
yang berputar beberapa kali di
atas perairan Pantai Kuta. Di tengahnya,
puluhan surfer melingkar. Ini
menjadi bagian wujud doa memperingati
peristiwa bom bali 12 Oktober
2002.
Dalam festival ini, digelar parade
budaya lokal hingga internasional,
musik, tarian, serta festival kuliner
( Food Fest ). Dalam acara Kuta
Karnival ini digelar pula pameran,
dengan lokasi seluruh acara di
teras pantai sepanjang pantai Kuta.
Bapak Morgan Made Suartha,
mengatakan, tahun ini agak berbeda
karena hanya tiga hari dari
sepekan, karena minimnya biaya.
Namun kami berharap kemeriahannya
tidak berkurang “.
Dan hasilnya meskipun hanya 3 hari,
pengunjung Kuta Karnival tetap
ramai, terlebih lagi saat malam hari.
Disepanjang Food Fest, pengunjung
rela mengantri untuk membeli
makanan di tenda-tenda makanan
yang telah ada di area tersebut.
MW juga menjadi salah satu participant
yang ikut memeriahkan Kuta
Karnival tahun ini dengan menggelar
kontes ( MSC ). Kita semua tentu
berharap tahun depan akan ada
lagi Kuta Karnnival denga kemeriahan
yang lebih dan waktu yang
lebih lama. ( Peppy )
BUKIT BOARDRIDERS SURF CONTEST
SERIE 5 - NUSA DUA
23 Oktober 2011 MW menelusuri
pantai kawasan Nusa Dua untuk
mencari tempat diadakannya
kontes Bukit Boardriders seri ke
5, itu artinya closing kontes untuk
tahun ini. Setelah melewati jalan
yang lumayan terjal dan cuaca
sangat panas, akhirnya MW sampai
juga disebuah pantai yang
memiliki anak tangga banyak.
Tapi letih dan lelah seketika
hilang ketika melihat pantai putih
dan air yang jernih.
Mandika, Mik dan Made bukit
adalah Judge di kontes ini. Open
dan Grommet division, dengan
Jumlah peserta secara keseluruhan
50 peserta, namun yang
hadir dalam event kali ini hanya
17 Peserta. Meski demikian suasana
tetap semangat dan berjalan
dengan lancar hingga siang
jam 13.00 WITA. Dengan cuaca
dan ombak yang dapat dibilang
cukup bagus sehingga semakin
mendukung kontes ini.
Hasil kontes / pemenang akan
diumumkan saat Anniversary
10 tahun Boardriders, tepatnya
bulan Desember 2011. “ Masingmasing
juara akan diumumkan,
untuk saat ini masih rahasia” kata
Made Bukit. Well, maaf ya untuk
para peserta yang merasa ikut di
kontes ini, MW ga bisa kasih bocoran
siapa pemenangnya. Kita
tunggu saja ya bulan Desember
siapa pemenang dari kontes ini.
Tidak lupa ucapan terimakasih
dari Boardriders Team untuk Ripcurl,
Bukit Boardriders, Light surf
Board, Magicwave Surfing Championship
( MSC ), dan RMN, yang
telah mendukung acara kontes ini.
Ok guys, see ya on December,,
Keep Surfing!!! ( Peppy )
MW Friends pernah dengar ga
musik-musik Afrika, dengan alat
seperti gendang. Kalau kamu
masih merasa aneh atau belum
kenal dengan musik Jimbe kayaknya
kamu harus baca dan
kenalan deh , dengan kemolpok
music yang satu ini. Yukk ikutan!!
Disela-sel istirahat siang saat
MSC bulan September yang lalu
berlangsung, MW coba bertanya-tanya
dengan pengisi acara
di MSC yaitu kelompok music
Jimbe yang punya nama “ MA-
LINKE “. Agak aneh kuga yak ok
namanya Malinke, ternyata nama
Malinke artinnya adalah kerajaan
di Afrika, alasannya karena
mereka kebanyakan rhytem
yang mereka adopsi dari Afrika.
Malinke sendiri beranggotakan
Pur, Catur, Mumu, Toni dan Jono.
Mereka berasal dari Jawa ,
kemudian merantau ke Bali tahun
2000 dan dengan latar belakang
yang berbeda –beda,
kemudian membuat kelompok
bernama “Malinke”.
Saat MW Tanya kenapa memilih
Jimbe sebagai aliran music
mereka. Mereka menjawab,dari
rasa ingin tahu tentang musik
Afrika, yang biasanya digunakan
untuk pemujaan atau spiritual.
Selain itu mencari wacana baru
tentang etnik dan kebudayaan
di luar Indonesia. Eits, tapi bukan
berarti mereka tidak cinta
Indonesia looh. Kemudian Mw
Tanya lagi, dengan siapa mereka
belajar jimbe. Mereka belajar
jimbe dengan orang Afrika dan
JIMBE MALINKE
Jepang. Kata Mas Pur ( salah
satu anggota Malinke ), saya
seperti menemukan jati diri saya
dalam bermusik dengan aliran
ini.
Bercerita sedikit tentang perjuangan
mereka hingga saat
ini ternyata lumayan panjang.
Berawal dari pentas komunitas
hingga undangan ke event-event
besar salah satunya MSC ( hehee..),
dengan kata lain saat ini
mereka berani mengkomersilkan
diri. Buktinya Malinke tetap
bertahan walaupun aliran music
seperti kebanyak sekarang Rock,
pop, metal dan lin-lain semakin
banyak dan marak. Tapi Malinke
tetap setia dengan Jimbe.
Wahh, menarik juga ya tantang
musik Jimbe. Kalau kamu ingin
tahu lebih lanjut atau mau undang
mereka kamu bisa mbertemu
mereka di Jalan Majapahit
Kuta. Itu adalah base cam mereka.
Disana terdapat toko-toko
yang berjualan alat musik Jimbe.
Nah sekarang MW mau Tanya
tentang surfing, gimana sih kesan
Malinke tentang MSC? Mas Pur
menjawab, “ kegiatan ini sangat
bagus dan positif untuk memacu
minta anak-anak untuk berani
dan lebih baik lagi, kalau bisa
anak-anak lokal lebih banyak
lagi, dan Sukses ya untuk Magic
Wave yang tetap semangat
mengadakan kegiatan ini ”. Ok,
thanks for Malinke karena sudah
meluangkan waktunya untuk MW
bertanya-tanya. Sukses juga ya
untuk MALINKE. (Peppytoez).
DAVEY CATHELS WINS THE OAKLEY WORLD PRO JUNIOR BALI Text & Photos courtesy of Tim Hain
CANGGU, Bali/Indonesia (Tuesday,
October 11, 2011) –Davey
Cathels (AUS) has won the Oakley
World Pro Junior Bali after an epic
Final battle with Andrew Doheny
(USA). As the day dawned competitors
and surf fans were greeted
by a slight increase in swell
size as predicted by official event
forecaster Surfline, with clean 3 - 5
foot surf consistently rolling into
Canggu.
Stop No. 1 of 3 on the ASP World
Junior Tour, the Oakley World Pro
Junior plays a vital role in determining
the ASP World Junior
Champion. With critical ratings
points on the line the remaining
competitors held nothing back for
an exciting final day of competition.
The final heat had the crowd on the
black sand beach on Canggu on
their feet as the two surfers battled
it out in a flurry of sets, carving
and slashing the long rippable
right-handers. It was Cathels who
stood up and snatched the win,
gouging a couple of monster turns
and launching into a massive lien
air to score a near perfect 9.63
(out of a possible 10) to shut the
door on Doheny’s Oakley World
Pro Junior title hopes.
Davey Cathels (AUS) takes the
event win, USD$25,000 and the
lead in the ASP World Junior Title
Race with 10,000 ratings points.
“This is the biggest win of my
career!” Cathels said. “I wasn’t
feeling much pressure when I was
chasing that big score at all. I’m
always more nervous watching
other people compete than when
I’m actually doing it myself. I’ve
been having good surfs all week
and I knew if I got the right waves
I could get the score. I still can’t
believe I won, I just tried to do all
the little things right all week and
get through a few heats and now
here I am. I’m so stoked!”
Cathels had planned to skip the
next ASP World Pro Junior event
in Brazil and enter an ASP PRIME
event in Santa Cruz, California, but
is now unsure of what he’ll do.
“I’m not sure what I’m going to do
next,” Cathels said. “I was going to
go to Santa Cruz, but now maybe
I’ll go to Brazil. I’ll have to have a
long think about this and talk to my
Dad and manager.”
Andrew Doheny (USA) has been
exciting to watch all event with
his stylish and unpredictable
approach, he now takes home
USD$10,000 and 8000 point towards
the 2011 ASP World Junior
Title Race.
“I’m super stoked because I’m not
the best contest surfer,” Doheny
said. “I came here last year and
lost in the first round, so I said to
myself as long as I win that heat
I’ll be happy, and then I ended up
getting second. I did a lot better
than I thought so I’m really happy.”
Garrett Parkes (AUS) lost the all
Australian Semifinal against Davey
Cathels (AUS), the pair went wave
for wave, turn for turn in a very
evenly matched affair, but Parkes
was left needing a score when the
ocean went flat for the last 10 minutes
of the heat. Parkes goes home
with an equal 3rd place finish,
USD $5000 and 6500 ASP World
Junior Tour ratings points.
“It’s a good comeback for me after
having such a bad year last year,”
Parkes said. “I can’t complain, it’s
just a bummer there was no waves
at the end there. The heat before
us had about a thousand waves,
so I was keen to get out there and
get a couple, but Davey [Cathels]
got all the good ones and then
the waves stopped.That happens
sometimes.”
Oakley’s team surfer Conner Coffin
(USA) was eliminated in the
next Semifinal by fellow American
Andrew Doheny (USA). The heat
started slow, but finished on a high
note with both surfers putting it all
on the line with two big exchanges
during the final minutes of the
heat. Coffin held the precarious
lead coming out of the water, but
everyone on the beach held their
breath in anticipation as the judges
presided over the final exchange.
When it was ultimately announced
WOMEN’S OAKLEY WORLD PRO JUNIOR BALI CHAMPION CROWNED
KERAMAS, Bali/Indonesia (Monday,
October10, 2011) –Coco
Ho(HAW) won the Women’s Oakley
World Pro Junior Bali title in
a hard fought Final over Dimity
Stoyle (AUS). The victory earns Ho
USD$5000 in prize-money and
puts her top the ASP Women’s
World Junior Title ratings.
The entire women’s field were
rubbing their hands together with
delight when they were sent out in
the clean 3 - 4 foot surf at Canggu
today. “I was so excited,” said
Stoyle after her Quarterfinal victory
over fellow Australian Sarah
Mason. “I free surfed before the
contest and when they called the
girls round first I was so excited.”
There was plenty of impressive
performances throughout the
Quraterfinals, Semifinals and Final,
but in the end it was Coco Ho who
came out on top.
The Final was an exciting heat between
the two standout surfers of
the 2011 Oakley World Pro Junior
Bali. Stoyle struck first with a decent
score, but Ho used her powerful
wrap-around carves and three
years of experience on the elite
ASP Women’s World Title Race to
put herself on the best waves and
take top spot on the podium.
OAKLEY WORLD PRO JUNIOR WOMEN’S FINAL RESULT:
that Doheny had dropped a massive
8.07 on his final wave to reclaim
the lead the crowd went wild.
“I’m feeling fine, kind of bummed,
but it was a good heat,” Coffin
said. “It came down to the end and
I caught the first wave, which was
a bit bumpy. The second one that
[Andrew] got was cleaner and he
ripped it apart. That’s how it goes,
I got 5th here last year so it’s good
to go one better.”
Fellow Oakley surfer Caio Ibelli
(BRA) celebrated his 18th birthday
with an equal 5th place finish
at the Oakley World Pro Junior.
Ibelli was a standout performer
throughout the event, but came up
against a red hot Andrew Doheny
(USA) in Quarterfinal 4, one of the
best heats of the entire event. Ibelli
clocked up two scores in the excellent
range, but it wasn’t enough
and goes home with USD $2250
and 5250 points towards his 2011
ASP World Junior Title campaign.
“It’s pumping out there,” Ibelli said.
“I had so much fun, even though I
lost, it was still a great birthday
present to get to surf waves like
that with one other guy. Andrew
[Doheny] ripped all events, I tried
my best and got two 8-point rides,
but I needed a 9.00, but I’m still so
happy.”
Overall the 2011 Oakley World
Pro Junior was a huge success and
got the ASP World Junior Tour
started with a bang. The next
event will hit the wave rich shores
of Rio de Janiero, Brazil from Oct
24 - Nov 2.
Team Legian Takes Oakley Tag Team Challenge Victory in Wrap Up to Oakley
11 October 2011, Kuta-Bali: In
a fun-filled wrap up to the seriously
ballistic performances of
winner Australia’s Davey Cathels
and runner-up American Andrew
Doheny in the 2011 Oakley
World Pro Junior final today at
Canggu Beach, four of Bali’s best
boardrider teams competed in a
30 minute final with Team Legian
claiming victory to conclude the
inaugural Oakley Tag Team Challenge
2011.
The winning team consisted of
Dylan Amar, the “Double Trouble”
twins Darmaputra Tonjo and
Made Darmayasa and grom Raju
Sena, who all came home with
brand new Firewire surfboards
courtesy of Oakley Indonesia.
“It was a lot of fun out there,”
said senior team member Dylan
Amar. “We were most worried
about the Lembongan boys
because they have been winning
everything, but with the twins racking
up some big scores and lucky
for us Putra (Hermawan) only getting
one good wave and not two,
we got the win. We’re all super
happy to get brand new Firewire
boards, thanks to Oakley and
Firewire. I’m glad we brought a
car so we can get them all home
with us!”
Coming in second place was the
Lembongan team, third was Team
Medewi and in fourth place was
Seminyak. They all received gift
packs from Oakley so nobody
went home empty handed.
The Oakley Tag Team Challenge
final today was the culmination
of four rounds of tag team action
that began in April at the Oakley
Pro 2011 at Canggu, with 12 surf
clubs from various surf spots in
Bali including Canggu, Pererenan,
Kedungu, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Ketewel,
Keramas, Uluwatu competing for a
spot today’s final. Events at Legian
and Seminyak during July, and a
semi final during the Oakley Pro
Junior 2011 in August, set things
up for the final at Canggu today
at the Oakley World Pro Junior
2011.
For the initial four rounds, the rules
were that their 5 person teams
must consist of at least one surfer
less than 16 years of age, no more
than one surfer seeded in the ISC’s
Top 20, and no more than one non-
Indonesian citizen, in addition to
the two others. There was a maximum
of four teams surfing in each
heat, and heat times were at 50
minutes. For today’s final however,
due to time constraints the teams
were cut to four surfers and time
was limited to 30 minutes.
“It was a great end to such an
awesome event, as the Bali surf
club teams got to watch arguably
the best final the island has ever
seen and then go out and have fun
competing in the very same waves
as the best pro junior surfers in the
world. Our main objective of this
Surf Tag Team Challenge is to promote
the spirit and culture of club
surfing here in Bali, as we know how
important it is to the development of
surfing. We have already seen lots
of interest and enthusiasm this year,
so we’re expecting great things in
the future,” said Gino Andrias, Oakley
Indonesia’s Sports and Alternate
Marketing Manager.
Oakley Surf Tag Series Results:
1. Team Legian – 37.60 points
2. Team Nusa Lembongan – 34.11
3. Team Medewi – 27.56 points
4. Team Seminyak – 20.76 points
Name : SILA (I Wayan Sila Adnyana )
DOB : 14 December 1980
Local : Gumicik-ketewel
(comunitas lokal ketewel.red).
Halo bli sila apa kabar?
Kabar baik-baik saja
Lagi sibuk apa nih?
So, sementara yang
lain mulai berhenti dari surfing, saya masih senang surfing sampai
sekarang.
Ingat ga size board pertama?
6’2 old skull dengan 6 fin.
pula. Kalau surfer luar saya suka RY CRAIKE karena
dia punya manuever yang akrobatik.
Pendapat bli terhadap surfer local di gumicik?
Mereka kurang punya keyakinan diri untuk menjadi
diri sendiri. Banyak dari orang tua surfer yang
kurang mendukung hobi mereka karena surfing dianggap
mempunyai image yang jelek.
Ada pesan buat para young guns gumicik?
Belajarlah menjadi yang berarti bagi orang lain.
Last words buat MW?
Tetaplah melek dengan hal sekitar demi perkembangan
dunia surfing.
Raditya Rondi Wins Men’s Open Final at Quiksilver Thailand 2011 Surf Competition
24 September 2011, Phuket-Thailand:
In an exciting end to four full days of
great surfing and fun at Patong Beach
at the Quiksilver Thailand 2011 Surf
Competition, Bali’s Raditya Rondi
gave the crowded beach a clinical
demonstration on smashing out big
moves on even the smallest waves to
claim victory in the Men’s Open Shortboard
Division, winning a cash prize
of 30,000 Baht ($1,000 USD) plus
accommodations from Ibis Hotel and
airlines tickets from Nok Air.
Rondi’s fellow finalists Mega Semadhi,
Pepen Hendrik, and Marlon Gerber
are also from Bali, giving him not
only a challenge from the small wave
conditions but also against his competitors,
as they are all top surfers
on the Coca-Cola Indonesian Surfing
Championship Tour and the new Asian
Surfing Championship Tour. In their
last competition together, it was Marlon
Gerber that scored a last minute
victory against Rondi, so this win was
especially sweet for him.
“ Wow, I’m so stoked to be the winner
today, finally! I’ve been so close and
almost won several times this year,
but now I’ve done it. And in such a
great place, I’m so happy I came here
to Phuket. For me and all the boys
from Bali, it’s been a super fun and
amazing experience with the food,
the beach, the nightlife, and the locals
have been so cool to us too. I really
thank them for sharing their beach
and waves with us and they are welcome
in Bali anytime!” said Rondi.
The top spots on the podium in all divisions
were taken by Indonesian surfers,
with Arif “Mencos” Hidayat from
West Java winning the Longboard
Division, Yasnyiar “Bonne” Gea from
Sumatra taking the Women’s Division
victory, and Bali legend Wayan Gantiyasa
winning the Masters Division.
Indonesia has the most experienced
surf community in South East Asia,
dating back to the 1930’s, and their
own professional surfing tour, but with
the creation of the new Asian Surfing
Championship tour it is hoped that
the other surfing destinations such as
Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan and the
Philippines will benefit from these surfing
events and develop more world
class professional surfers as well.
Phuket’s own teenage phenom Annissa
Flynn was the top Thai surfer in
the Women’s Division, nailing the 1st
runner up spot just behind Yasnyiar
Gea, and besting Indonesia’s Gamala
Hanafiah and Australia’s Charmaine
Gale. Flynn at 13 years of age has
already traveled and competed
outside of Thailand, going to Bali last
year to compete in the Quiksilver King
of the Groms. She was satisfied with
her result today saying, “I had lots
of fun out there and I didn’t lose by
much, only by half a point, and so I
feel good about today.”
In the Men’s Longboard Division it was
Indonesia’s Arif “Mencos” Hidayat
who wowed the crowd with his exciting
new school maneuvers combined
with classic “toes on the nose” rides to
best fellow West Java longboard ace
Husni Ridwan. Thailand’s Weerawat
Kuru placed third and Teiki Ballian
from France took fourth spot.
In the Master’s Division it was Bali’s
Wayan Gantiyasa from Kuta Beach
who fought off the last minute charge
by local Thai master Chalong Thongsook
to take the win. Gantiyasa was
all smiles back on the beach after the
final saying, “This is my first time to
Phuket and I’m really enjoying it. It’s
a bit like back home at Kuta Beach,
but cleaner and much more organized
with better traffic, hotels, restaurants,
and great night life. Winning
the comp was great, but the whole
experience here was the best thing.
The local surfers have a great spirit
and I’m happy to be able to surf with
them.”
Today’s finals were the culmination
of four days of surfing, games, music
and entertainment at Patong Beach
in Phuket, one of the most popular
beaches in arguably Thailand’s best
beach tourism destination. The Quiksilver
Thailand Surf 2011 Competition
has become an annual event, this
being the third year running, and is
growing in popularity, drawing almost
100 surfers from Australia, Japan,
Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore,
the Philippines, France, Burma, and
America for the event this year.
Quiksilver SEA CEO Paul Hutson was
delighted with this year’s event, saying,
“This was another example of the
outstanding execution of professional
event organizing by Surached and
his team at Quiksilver Thailand, and
I couldn’t be more pleased. A big
shout out also to the media and celebrities
that came down for the weekend
for a fabulous weekend of surf, sun
and fun here at Patong Beach, and to
the Patong locals for being such great
hosts. We’ll see you back here next
year!”
The winners in each division each
received cash prizes in addition to
vouchers from hotel sponsor Ibis Hotels
and airline sponsor Nok Air.
After the beachside awards presentation
that was accompanied by food,
free flow Chang beer and water, the
crowd was treated to live music by the
Teddy Ska Band, a fashion show of
Quiksilver and Roxy’s latest apparel,
and rounded out by one of Bangkok’s
hottest bands, Big Ass.
And as if that wasn’t enough, everybody
was invited down the street
to the Jungceylon mall to Famous
nightclub for the after party, where
copious amounts of Chang beer and
Jim Beam greeted the thirsty crowd
and had them partying until the small
hours of the morning.
Tujuan ide kami ini, tidak lain
Robi Hendra
Owner / Shaper CV. Cipta Jaya Selancar
Kalau kamu ngaku surfer dan udah
lama tinggal di Bali. Kamu pastinya
tahu dong? Dengan sahabat MW
yang akan Mw ceritakan. Kalau
masih belum tahu, ayo terus baca.
Kalau pun udah tahu pastinya pengen
tahu lebih kan? ( Heheehe ).
Well, kali ini MW berhenti di suatu
jalan, namanya Jalan Bikini, tepatnya
rumah Robi Hendra, yaitu salah
satu shaper surfboard di Bali. Mau
tahu kan lebih lanjut bagaimana
perjalanan hidupnya?
Bapak Hendra yang Lahir di
Medan, 16 September 1977.
Menghabiskan masa kecil di Medan.
Lalu pada tahun 1989-1994 ia
pergi ke Byron Bay-NSW, Australia
dan tinggal bersama Legendary
Movie maker& surf photographer
Dick Hoole. Kemudian dia mulai
suka Bali 1989, di pantai kuta ia
meminjam JimBank 6’8 board of
Kim Bradley’s ( he said : thanks Kim,
you are a good man & a great
mentor ). Pada tahun 1989 kembali
ke Byron Bay dengan sebuah
surfboard warna merah berukuran
5’10” dan sebuah hadiah dari Kim
Bradley. Di ByronBay-Australia, Pak
Hendra sekolah surfing dan bergabung
dengan surf club lokal. Ia
berpendapat “ competes in few club
contests (do no good at all..found
i’m no contest surfer..hehehe)”. mulai
saat itu ia mengenal dan belajar
industri surfing dari Dick Hoole dan
beberapa shapers legend seperti :
George Greenough, Mark thompson
dan lain-lain.
Rumah Dick Hoole selalu kedatangan
pro surfer, photographer&
shapers, jadi Pak hendra dapat bertukar
pikiran dan pendapat tentang
teori dan ilmu dari mereka yang
dianggap sudah berpengalaman
di bidang industri surfing. Pada
tahun 1994 ia kembali ke Indonesia
dan tahun 1995 ada sebuah kontes
surfing di Nias ( open ) ia mewakili
Medan-sumatera utara. Pak Hendra
mendapatkan 2board (6’3&6’6)
dari Ketut Menda (Bali Barrel).
Saat itu adalah contest besar yang
pernah diikuti lagi. Waktu itu ia
disponsori selama 1bulan dengan
Boraspati tours.
Saat ia mulai menetap di Bali
(1995 -1998) bekerja di Stussy Ind
sebagai management trainee.
Lalu mendirikan tahun 1998-2004
Usaha sendiri dibidang garmen,
karena Indonesia saat itu terkena
Krisis moneter lalu usaha ditutup.
Ia manjalani pulang-pergi dari
Bali-Australia untuk membantu Dick
Hoole menjalankan bisnis yang
sedang berjalan yaitu Classic Surf
Company.
Pada 2004-2006, ia mulai merintis
usaha lagi, dan menjadi Development
Manager PT. Indoglass Selancar
Jaya,tahun 2006 CV.CiptaJaya
Selancar di resmi dimulai. “ Boards
mulai di handshape sendiri dan
hasil nya; masih jauh dari harapan
“ ucapnya. Ia banyak bertanya
kesana-kemari kepada mereka
yang asli “surfboards shaper”; Kim
Bradley, Timmy, Tony “Doris” Eltherington,
Hafi Sunrise yang sering
memberikan saran dan trik shaping
surfboards, kemudian di praktek
kan langsung hingga sekarang.
Mengusung logo/merk Classic Surf
Company untuk semua board yang
ia produksi dan concentrated dengan
Clear Epoxy core. Pak Hendra
berkata “ Our production line 70%
Clear Epoxy Core & 30% Polyurethane
core”.
Tujuannya menjadi surfboards
shaper adalah bentuk kecintaannya
kepada surfing dan terutama
untuk menambah daftar surfboard
asli buatan Indonesia dengan design
dan shapes yang bisa bersaing
dengan produk-produk luar. Board
yang ia produksi cenderung kea rah
individualis shapes (cutom shapes)
dan sampai saat ini juga ia mengatakan
masih belajar dan belajar
dari orang-orang yang sudah sangat
berpengalaman di industri ini.
Ia merasa senang jika teman-teman
dan customers mengatakan bahwa
ia board yang ia shape worked
real fine. Bagi Pak Hendra pribadi,
suatu penghargaan yang sangat
besar jika produk buatan anak
singkong sepertinya bisa di terima
dengan baik di pasar terutama di
Indonesia.
He said, “ A magic Surfboard is
always can be made as long as
there’s a good communications
between the surfers& the shapers..
Then Let the product speak it self!
Yes, Let the product speak for it self..
Peace.“
Woww, gimana cerita tadi tentang
Pak Hendra. Ada pelajaran
yang dapat di petik dari ceritanya,
bahwa kita tidak seharusnya menyerah
begitu saja, akan tetapi harus
tetap berusaha dan terus belajar.
So, buat Mw friends yang saat ini
mulai menyerah, ayo bangkit lagi.
Karna ga ada masalah yang ga
ada jalan keluarnya. Semangat!!!
REST IN PEACE PAK RIZANI “THE FOUNDING FATHER OF BALI SURFING CLUB”
Paddle out utk Pak RIzani akan
dilakukan pada hari Minggu, 13
November 2011 di Pantai Halfway
Kuta. Jam 17.00
Pls join us - Paddle Out tribute
to respect Mr Rizani on Sunday,
Nov 13 2011, Halfway - Kuta
beach @ 17.00 Bali Time
Testimonial from friends
Peter Neely
I have great respect for theachievements
of Pak Rizani. Spurred on by
the enthusiastic dreams of Kim “Fly”
Bradley (RIP), he established The
Bali Surfing Club in 1979 to organize
healthy contests among the
growing first generation of Balinese
surfers. When the club started
there were only 60 members,
among them Ketut Nugra, Nyoman
“Bobby” Radiasa, Ny man Sadia,
Wayan Sudirka, Gede Narmada,
Wayan Suwenda, Gus “Ripper”
Gina, Agung Adi, Made “Joe” Darsana,
Wayan Budi, Nyoman “Godfrey”
Suardana, Wayan Wijana,
Nyoman Jalad and other surfers
mainly from Kuta and Legian, but
also Sanur (10), Uluwatu (5), and
Canggu (5). The club’s first contest
attracted a huge crowd, including
the Governor of Bali and the
Minister of Sport.Years later “Fly”
remembered: “To see the sport get
that recognition by the government
was great for us, because it made
us proud, and it gave our sport and
our lifestyle credibility in the eyes
of the Indonesian people. And we
couldn’t have done it without Pak
Rizani
Made Mangku
Rizani adalah Pioneer surfing Indonesia
sekalipun bukan seorang
surfer beliau sangat peduli dengan
surfing. Tahun 1976 hampir setiap
ada kontes, Lasirawati Losmen -nya
selalu jadi sponsor. Beliau juga
memberi inspirasi club2 di bali, dan
Sanur Surfing Club setelah Kuta dan
kotes pertama adalah Bali Pro di
bawah naungan BSC/Bali Surfing
Club dan Pak Rizani lah ketuanya
Download online
www.magicwave.org
Steve Palmer
I rememberRizani’s involvement
in Bali Surfing Club starting with
the intial formating with Bobby,
Wayan Kanto, Mike Boyum at Lassis
in themid 70. Rizani’s valuable
help was so important when we
held our OM Bali Pro’s in 79,80 &
81 fully rate ASP events where he
help us through themazer of generals
to hold one of Indonesia’s first
ever profesional sporting event he
was excited that the young Bali
surfer would have a change to see
theworlds top pro’s surfing bali
wave’s like ulu’s.
He was later a key organizer when
we held the quik bali grommet
contest in the 90’s and also when we
had the Quikselver pro in G-land
(Mid 90’s) so pretty well 5 of the 6
top pro event every held in Indonesia
were becouse of his dedicate effort.
I doubt that many surfer reading
this even know who Rizani was
Bali surfing is really poor in respect
to it’s elders who came before them.
this is something that needs to be
addressed if you ever want to have
any kind of roots to surfing in Bali
i feel deeply honored to know personally
and to have worked alongsideRizani
for surfing in Indonesia
Sanola Wau
Risani; first time i meet him in Nias
1992 open Nias surf comp
He has high motifation for young
generation in Indonesia about surfing
and full suport Until now Indonesia
popular in the world thank you
Pak risani everyting you have done.
Paul Anderson
It was with great sadness I heard
about the passing of Bapak Rizani
especially as it was too late to
pay my respects to his family .
As coordinator for Om Clothing’s
involvement with sponsoring surfing
I worked very closely with Bapak
Rizani and was a frequent visitor
to Lasirawati’s Losmen and Restaurant
where he lived for intensive
brain storming sessions with all the
Bali Surfing Club gang .Pak Rizani
opened the doors for Indonesian
surfing to be accepted by the
government and especially by the
Sports and Culture Ministry which
was also at that time covering Religious
Affairs.
There was a view in some circles
at the time that all western influences
were bad for the country and
there was even some discussion of
blackbanning surfing . The Government
even sent a special adviser to
go with us on an exploration trip to
East Java to study what we were all
about and our socio economic affect
in coastal villages and tourism . This
was the first exploration past Gland.
Hardly anyone ever went to Lombok
and just a few hardy souls had
been to Nias. Canggu was a secret
spot , there were hardly any roads
on the bukit . The rest was unknown
! There was also a view also at the
time in Jakarta that tourism needed
to be 5 star and needed to be able
to supply everything for western
tastes . Well we proved that we
had a great influence in the fishing
villages , that we could hang
out and communicate with the local
people via our knowledge of the
sea , we didn’t need to survive on
5 star food and we brought economic
development to places that
would never see a tourist in decades
. We visited places that hadn’t
seen a westerner since the war of
Independence so our intereaction
and commmunity acceptance was
studied intensely . As a University
Professor, dedicated practioner
of Islam and well connected in the
political elite of that time Pak Rizani
paved the way for an acceptance at
the highest level that surfing was an
activity suitable for Indonesia and
garnered support from the Tourism
Promotion Board to allow licences
for events and activities revolving
around Surfing . Pak Rizani even
arranged for Kim Bradley , Dave
Wylie and myself to be personally
sponsored by the Tourism Minister
Pak Tirtosudiro to stay in Indonesia
and support the Bali Surfing Club’s
quest to develop their surfing and
explore new horizons . For Kim
the Fly this became a long journey
and Dave is down in Sumba still
doing it . I learnt a lot about the
Indonesian beauracracy and media
from him and found myself fronting
press conferences and meetings
with Ministers and Governors alike
. It was a rare experience which I
learned a hell of a lot from including
the language of government .
When we go back to the times when
Indonesia was recovering from many
catastrophic events in it’s history and
security was a major concern , tourism
and economic development flew
on the back of surfing’s entrepid
adventurers and the backpackers
searching for new Shangrila’s .
Handicraft industries grew accross
the archipeligo and transport and
accomodation in remote places took
off . Even though his star faded a
bit as he got older his contribution
at that time was momentuous and
everyone surfing here today owes
something to Bapak Rizani’s legacy
.
Sachan
Semua kita sangat merasa kehilangansalah
satu tokoh surfing Indonesia.
Dia banyak memberikan waktu
dan tenagauntuk kemajuan surfing
di Indonesia
Kami dari komunitas surfing di sanur
mengucapkan rasa bela sungkawa
yang sangat besar dan juga buat
para surfer local lainnya untuk
bersama sama melanjutkan apa
yang sudah dirintis
Dengan mengetahui perjalanan surfing
Indonesia Kita bisa mawas diri
dan respect.
coast of Victoria, then down to
place called Wilson Promontory
National Park the most southern
tip of Australia. I ever be member
of Phillip Island boardriders
club, the oldest club in Australia,
I joined the club in
the mid 90’s for 12 years.
Came to Bali ( first ) in
1989 – then 1990 –
1991, then I Met piping in
2010 and helped Magic
Wave contest, I have been
judging all this year and
really loving it. See the
young surfers in the water
they look so big from the
beach, when they come out
they are small super grommets,
but they rip those
sick waves a part at half
ways at Kuta Beach, the
contest is well organized
for everyone. Beside of
surfing, my hobbiy is music,
i like to play guitar. Music is my
soul.
Now, I lived in a Balinese Village.
Before lived in Legian for
quite a while. I been invited to
live there by my good friend
Nyoman Sulejo and wife Wayan
Meriyani in Tumbak Bayu Village.
My next goal in 2012, I
wanna have a Bar & surf shop.
I shape surfboards in
Australia as a backyards
hobby, for my self and
friends, my trade is a
plumber but before I die
I want a change.
Cinta Bali ! Rumahku
Jim Walker, lahir 11-01-1952
di Melbourne,Victoria, Australia.
Mulai surfing pada tahun 1971.
Dia tidak ikut sekolah surfing,
tidak menggunakan legrope,
Cuma tali nilon yg terikat pada
fin, dengan kaus kaki tua atau
kalung anjing yg diikat di kaki.
Mulai surfing di sekitar pantai
Philip Victoria. Kemudian turun
ke sebuah tempat yang bernama
Taman Nasioanl Wilson
Promontory, paling ujung selatan
Australia. Saya pernah menjadi
anggota dari Phillip Island
boardriders klub, klub tertua di
Australia pada pertengahn tahun
90an selama 12 tahun.
Datang ke Bali ( pertama ) tahun
1989, kemudian 1990 hingga
1991. Kemudian bertemu Piping
pada tahun 2010 dan membantu
kontes Magicwave. saya menjadi
juri selama event tahun ini dan
sungguh menyukainya. Melihat
surfer muda di air, mereka terlihat
sangat besar dari pantai,
ketika mereka keluar mereka
adalah grommet kecil, tetapi
mereka merobek bagian gelombang-gelombang
bagian tengah
Pantai Kuta, kontes ini terorganisir
dengan baik untuk semua
orang. Selain surfing, hobby saya
adalah bermusik dengan gitar.
Musik adalah adalah jiwa saya.
Sekarang saya tinggal di sebuah
desa, sebelumnya saya tinggal
di Legian. Saya diundang untuk
tinggal disana dengan teman
baik saya Nyoman sulejo dan
istrinya Wayan Meriyani di Desa
Tumbak Bayu ( Canggu ).
Cita-cita saya selanjutnya di
tahun 2012 adalah ingin membuka
Bar Surfshop dan Snack
ditambah bentuk papan selancar
di Australia berbentuk sebagai
halaman belakang, untuk saya
sendiri dan teman-teman. Ketrampilan
saya adalah seorang
tukang ledeng, tapi sebelum saya
meninggal saya menginginkan
sebuah perubahan.
Last word for you, Let’s keep Bali
Clean in everywhere and Just
keep surfing.
Raditya Rondi Signed with Billabong For Another 3 Years!!
After an awesome 3 years, Balinese powerhouse Raditya Rondi signed on for another 3 years with Billabong
that are surely going to be just as rad.
“I am super excited,” said the talented goofy footer. “Billabong has been so supportive of me over the years,
and I get to really develop my surfing skills.” The 22 years old has come a long way since his grommet days
with Billabong 10 years ago. “I love surfing very much, in the future when I’m older I’d still very much like to
get involved in surf, maybe learn how to become a judge, or contest director… But that’s later - at the moment
I just want to win as many contest as I can!” he grinned.
“Ever since he was 14 he has showed exceptional focus and commitment,” stated Paul Anderson, Billabong
Indonesia’s Technical Advisor. “Last year 3rd on the ISC Tour, this year 2nd, next year.... Look out!”
We are so proud to have such talent in our team. Expect huge wins coming from him! Welcome back, Raditya!
HURLEY Indonesia new office
Congratulation to Hurley Indonesia for the opening
of the new office in Sunset Road.
The opening is attended by Bob Hurley himself,
surf industries invitees and all the Hurley Indonesia
crew.
Shaggy dog band and some local bands are
there to entertain the guests.
Hurley is one of the world surfing premium brands
who come strong on the last decade and sponsoring
some of the great surfers all over the globe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Others: day-care history, # Not as active as they normally are rehydration therapy (ORT) or caregiver
unable to administer ORT
food history, water exposure, camping
history, travelling history
sunken fontanella
- Anti-diarrhoeal agent, loperamide,
# No tears while crying. In babies,
Diarrhoea
Why is it important? It’ll give a clue # Less active
should not be used in case of infectious
diarrhoea
about the organism (virus, bacteria, # Lost of weight
parasite) causing the diarrhoea, and # Lethargic, even unconscious
source of the diarrhoea (small versus # Electrolyte imbalance, also may
large bowel).
lead to fatal conditions
Please bear in mind that most organisms
take days to start showing the Self Treatment:
symptoms (incubation period). Some - Fluid, fluid and fluid: small amounts
even take up to 1 week although but often
some others take only hours. So, don’t - Not all diarrhoea requires antibiotics.
Some diarrhoea can even be
always blame the food you take
hours prior.
dangerous if you take antibiotics.
Definition
Diarrhoea is defined as the abrupt
onset of abnormally high fluid content
in the stool: more than the normal
value of approximately 10 mL/kg/d
in the infant and young child, and
more than 200 g/d in the teenager
and adult, in the setting of western
diet (low fibre diet). This term is also
used to denote loose or watery stool.
Acute versus Chronic
Acute diarrhoea = acute onset, lasts
no more than 14 days
Chronic diarrhoea (persistent diarrhoea)
= diarrhoeal episode lasts
longer than 14 days
Why is it important? It’ll give a clue
about epidemiological, cause and
treatment.
Good to know (observe)
Although it sounds strange, but when
you experience diarrhoea, it’s important
to observe these following things:
• Frequency
• Appearance: just loose, watery,
blood or mucus in stool
• Each time volume: large versus
small
Cause:
- Food intolerance or food allergies
- Surgical conditions: acute appendicitis,
intussusceptions
- Infections: virus, bacteria, and parasite
- In children, virus is the most common
cause of diarrhoea
Complication:
- In paediatric/children population :
failure to thrive/grow
- Dehydration ; the most common
complication, affecting all populations.
Babies and children are far
more prone to it. The younger the
age, the more they are prone to dehydration.
The general rule, younger
than 4 years old is definitely more
prone.
* Reason: they have higher body
water contents (Water comprises approximately
70% of body weight in
infants, 65% in children, and 60% in
adults)
* Never underestimate dehydration;
it can be fatal.
* Focusing in paediatric: How to recognize
dehydration early?
# Less urine
# Thirsty
# Dry mouth or lips
- When to go to a doctor:
o Bloody diarrhoea
o Fever
o High-output diarrhoea
o Persistent vomiting
o Signs of dehydration
o Inadequate responses to oral
Prevention:
- It is always better to prevent than
to treat
- For children, since the most common
cause of diarrhoea is rotavirus, now
Indonesia has the rotavirus vaccine
and it is available at BIMC Hospital.
- The rotavirus vaccine is not injection,
but oral suspension (kind of syrup),
consisting of 2 doses; 1st dose after
6 weeks old, preferably before 16
weeks old and 2nd dose should be
completed before 24 weeks old.
The Billabong City Squared Indo presented
by Sony Ericsson and Walked
Away with Rp. 30.000.000!!
There was a little blessing rain at the
beginning of Sunday, 23rd October
2011 but after that the sun was blazing
and the Billabong City Squared
on with full speed.
32 skaters including Indonesia’s
best also some international riders
from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand
and the Philippines all brought their
A game in pursuit of the total rp.
The competition was fierce and
unpredictable, but in the end it was
Rino Herman who took the first place.
“He was really focused and because
of that he had some really
good heats today,” explained judge
Nareen Kameshwara. “He did lots of
tricks, also attempted difficult tricks
and combo tricks. That hardflip to
backside 50/50 grind was crazy.”
“I can’t believe I won! At such an
amazing event, too!” Claimed a
ecstatic Rino Herman. “I worked
really hard for this, practicing the
tricks I want to show, and also lots
of prayers. And all these people that
came for the event, pumped my spirits
even more!”
Rino also scored the Nixon Best Trick
with his hardflip to backside 50/50
grind and took home the sweet Nixon
Sony Ericsson XPeria Active phone!
The venue was jam packed with people
eager to see the action and all the
other activities that were going on. Our
South East Asia Skate Team Manager
held a coaching clinic which was very
popular with the young kids.
“We are very happy that Indonesia
held a skate event of this level,” stated
Leopold Anggi of Indonesian Skate
Federation. “It’s good for the guys to
see Asia’s top skaters in action, definitely
gives them some motivation to push
forward. We are also super stoked
about the international standard ramp
that was donated by Billabong. This
will definitely a great addition towards
Indonesian skate movement.”
The event was closed by a rock solid
performance from Gugun Blues Shelter
and a rain of giveaways.
