The Wausau family medicine residency<br />
program—one of the oldest in the state—<br />
offers unopposed training at a state-of-theart<br />
facility on the Aspirus Wausau Hospital<br />
campus.<br />
Education Highlights<br />
• Connecting with medical students.<br />
On January 8, 2011, over 60 medical<br />
students in the <strong>UW</strong> SMPH <strong>Family</strong><br />
<strong>Medicine</strong> <strong>In</strong>terest Group traveled to<br />
Wausau for a didactic presentation in<br />
the residency clinic followed by an<br />
afternoon of skiing at Granite Peak.<br />
• New osteopathic manipulation therapy clinic. An osteopathic faculty preceptor now<br />
provides osteopathic residents with a weekly patient care clinical experience in osteopathic<br />
manipulation. Allopathic residents, medical students, and other learners also observe and<br />
gain clinical experience with these therapeutic practices.<br />
• Davis QI Award winner. Resident Amy Ewan, DO, and <strong>UW</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Wausau <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong><br />
won the DFM’s Davis Award for a project to improve adolescent immunization rates.<br />
