British Supersport Championship - MotorSport Vision Racing

WHAT IS BRITISH SUPERBIKE RACING?

The BSB bikes average more than 190bhp and are capable of

reaching 200mph. If you haven’t witnessed the atmosphere first

hand, the explosive acceleration off the line or the riders rubbing

elbows at incredible speeds - then you really should! BSB has a

huge following of fans who follow the championship around the

UK, and that is a testament to the teams and riders who push

themselves and their bikes to the limit, whilst never forgetting that

they’re racing to entertain the massive crowds at the circuits. BSB

is now a globally recognised brand, broadcast live throughout

Europe, Asia and Australasia, with some of the world’s best riders

and most prestigious manufacturers. And, above all, it’s possibly

the most thrilling spectator sport on the planet!

BSB is famed for its close, dramatic racing. A control tyre (Pirelli)

and tightly managed regulations ensures the grid is evenly

matched with battles throughout the field. Overtaking is rife and

the stakes are high, with riders battling wheel to wheel at speeds

of up to 200mph and frequently losing control as they push to the

limit. A BSB bike will lap the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in

around 86 seconds - that’s 6 seconds faster than a British Touring

Car. And the grids are twice the size of MotoGP!

MOTUL BRITISH SUPERSPORT CHAMPIONSHIP

As title sponsor the class will be referred to as the Motul British Supersport Championship

The British Supersport Championship leads the support class

line-up and has in the past produced some of the upcoming

talent in the classes, including Cal Crutchlow, Leon Camier and

Sam Lowes as the manufactures go head to head for glory. As the

premier class for 600cc machines it is the class to watch for the

next generation of motorcycling along with fans favourites who

regularly grace the class each season.

The championship is decided over 24 races, with the class

appearing at all 12 of the BSB rounds.

A typical event format is 2 x 40min practice sessions on day one,

1 x 40min qualifying and a sprint race (75% distance of the

feature length race) on the second day and a 10min warm up

prior to the feature race which lasts around 25mins.

In 2011 the title was decided by a single point as the Relentless Suzuki

by TAS team returned with the championship and after some intense

on track battles with Gearlink Kawasaki and Ben Wilson the former

champions reigned again with Alastair Seeley.

Seeley and Wilson had an epic battle for supremacy as the pair took

ten and nine wins respectively with the pair amassing a further 18

podiums between them. Seeley’s title win thrust him back into

contention for a BSB ride for 2012, whilst Wilson has already confirmed

he will return with the Gearlink Kawasaki team to make amends next

year. A further eight riders celebrated podium finishes in 2011 as the

class remains one of the most closely contested of the British series.
