A B LU E P R I N T - Key

The Key School A B LU E P R I N T FOR 2 0 0 0 A N D B E YO N D “…To Nourish and Guide” Several times since the late 1980s, we of The Key School c o m munity have taken stock of how well we are doing in our mission to “nourish and guide this natural exuberance” of our students as they come of age as “intelligent, informed and productive members of society.” We did so in 1989,in 1994 and again in 2000. We call this summary of the most recent long range planning p rocess a “ B l u e p ri n t ”because it is indeed that. After a decade of tremendous grow t h , the School has developed this wo r k - plan for what lies ahead — for constructing tomorrow ’s Key on yesterday’s and today’s foundations. Like an architect’s blueprint, it is not an exact snapshot of the future. It is a framework for institutional direction. It reaffirms our vision and guides our work. The Blueprint presents our goals, and some of the strategi e s for achieving them, around seven core components: ■ Program ■ Facilities ■ Admissions ■ Finance and Development ■ Human Resources ■ Board Governance ■ School and Commu n i t y As does a blueprint, this summary suggests how intricate our School is, h ow complex are its pieces in our seemingly simple quest to “nourish and guide.” To support this process, the Finance Committee has worked for the last eight months to develop a financial forecasting model to accompany the Long Range Plan.As we begin to implement many of its re c o m m e n d a t i o n s ,we wanted you to h ave this summary. A more detailed version of the Blueprint is available in the Development Office. As an architect’s rendering cannot reveal the effort behind the drawing, neither does our Blueprint adequately convey the time, enthusiasm, dedication, and affection for Key School of all those who joined in this effort, from trustees, to faculty and staff, to parents, alumni, and students. They are listed at the end of this summary. To them we give our h e a rt f e l t thanks.Their reward will be an even stronger, more vibrant Key School,as envisioned in these pages. Douglas W.
