Delighted owners top two-million mark 

Something that began in the 990s as a vision, will be celebrating 

a special jubilee in spring 2008, when the two millionth JURA 

bean-to-cup speciality coffee machine comes off the production 

line in Switzerland. 

The basic idea behind every IMPRESSA is simple enough. The 

decisive factor is not what is technologically possible, but the good 

taste of individuals who enjoy a good cup of coffee. And since taste, 

as we all know, is a very personal thing, JURA has developed and 

perfected state-of-the-art technologies that enable us to extract the 

maximum aroma from any coffee blend or roast. 

The first product to meet these demands was the IMPRESSA 500, 

launched in 994.This machine set completely new standards 

in terms of coffee quality, ease of use and customization.

2007 »IMPRESSA J5« 

With the launch of the compact IMPRESSA E line in 998, JURA once 

again wrote coffee machine history. A full 20% narrower than preceding 

models, the first fully automatic compact was small enough to 

fit into kitchens with a limited amount of space. 

The IMPRESSA F90, the world’s first household coffee machine with 

internet connectivity followed in 200 , and the IMPRESSA Z5, the first 

super premium-class machine, in 2004. This was the world’s first 

professional-standard machine for home use and made it possible to 

prepare a cappuccino at the touch of a button with no need to move 

the cup. 

Although development goes on continuously, it is never an end in 

itself. Because today, as back then, the prime objective of our developers 

and designers is to make the best possible cup of coffee from 

fresh beans: freshly ground and freshly prepared. No less important to 

us are simple, intuitive operation and a design that makes the owner 

proud to own one of our machines. With so much behind us, we are

Beautifully decorated coffee specialities with milk and milk froth are 

currently all the rage. Cappuccino, latte and all the others are more 

popular than ever all over the world. One of the ingredients used 

increasingly in all these specialities is milk. Whether it’s full cream or 

skimmed for the calorie-conscious is immaterial. There’s even a 

wide range of products for individuals with an allergy towards cow’s 

milk: goat’s or sheep’s milk, and milk made from rice or soybeans. 

JURA’s One Touch Cappuccino philosophy takes this phenomenon

One Touch Cappuccino Frother 

It’s a pleasure for the senses: hot, frothy milk flowing into the cup; 

steam rising and giving us a foretaste of what is to come; the 

fabulous aroma of coffee sinking to the bottom of the cup, mixing 

with the milk and forcing the creamy topping up to the rim. In 

fact, the creation of a perfect cup of cappuccino is one of the most 

sensual things imaginable. And it is all choreographed by the 

striking, chrome-plated pipes through which the delicious ingredients 

are guided into the cups. The unique, One Touch Cappuccino 

Frother, with its two separate outlets for foam and coffee, makes 

it possible for the two liquids to run directly into the glass or 

cup without any need to move them. The result: two perfect coffee 

specialities at the touch of a button. 

Insulated stainless steel milk container 

The standard equipment for the IMPRESSA Z5 includes a top-quality, 

insulated stainless steel milk container. It holds 600 ml, and uses a 

well-known and effective principle to keep milk cool all day long. Its

is why JURA’s engineers have developed a system that extracts

the Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (I.P.B.A.S. © ) is a virtually 

indispensable feature of any machine designed for genuine coffee 

lovers.

Intelligent electronics recognize the amount of coffee in the 

cylinder and when it has reached optimum compression. 

3. The Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (I.P.B.A.S. © ) now adjusts 

the volume of water required for pre-brewing to the amount of 

ground coffee. The ground coffee is thoroughly moistened and the 

fats and aromas swell up. After pre-brewing, the selected amount 

of water passes through the ground coffee. 

4. Once the valve is opened, the water, now enriched with all the 

coffee’s valuable constituents (aromas, fats and oils, as well as 

acidic flavouring components), flows to the coffee spout. The 

pressure used to compress the coffee (7 to 9 bar) forces the water 

to flow round every grain and guarantees perfect extraction to 

achieve maximum flavour and aroma.

Organic materials working together 

The CLARIS plus filter cartridge was developed specially for JURA 

fully automatic coffee/espresso machines. It contains a granulate 

consisting of organic ion exchangers and active carbon – in 

other words, pure, organic materials with no chemical additives. 

These agents work together to reduce the formation of calcium 

deposits, heavy metals and other harmful substances. Other 

substances detrimental to flavour and aroma, such as chlorine, 

are also largely eliminated, while minerals and fluorides important 

to health are, of course, retained in the water.

Filtered on command 

CLARIS plus works on the professional 

up-flow principle. In practice this means: 

only the precise amount of water required 

for your beverage is drawn up and filtered. 

Up-flow principle 

Water flows through the filter at a constant 

speed, disturbing the granulate and ensuring 

that it is used evenly and to optimum 

effect. The water remaining in the tank is 

left in its original pH state until the next cup 

of coffee is made.

Easy to use 

Inserting the CLARIS plus filter cartridge couldn’t be simpler. It is 

described in the instruction manual for your JURA coffee machine 

in the section entitled ‚Installing the filter’. The filter cartridge fits 

all machines equipped with the Integrated Pure Water System 

(I.P.W.S. © ): all IMPRESSA lines. 

Economical in use 

After processing 50 litres of water, or two months at the latest, the 

filter is no longer effective. The cartridge should then be replaced. 

Your JURA coffee machine will remind you when to do this. Details 

of this process can be found in the instruction manual under the 

section entitled ’Changing the filter’. 

Playing it safe 

CLARIS plus filter cartridges should be kept out of the reach 

of children. 

Store CLARIS plus filter cartridges dry in the sealed package. 

Protect them from heat or direct sunlight. 

Do not use damaged CLARIS plus filter cartridges. 

Do not open CLARIS plus filter cartridges. 

Your authorized JURA retailer accepts used filter 

cartridges. They are then safely recycled.

precisely the right degree of fineness. 

And that is guaranteed by a six-level, high 

performance conical grinder with cones 

made of hardened steel. The grain size needs 

to correspond to the type of roast. The 

grinder rotates slowly to limit the amount of 

heat generated during grinding. This ensures 

that the aroma of the beans is retained and 

gives the coffee a fuller, rounder flavour. 

Thanks to close – and effective – cooperation 

with sound engineers, the noise of the 

grinders typically associated with bean-tocup

Variable-volume brewing unit 

The variable-volume brewing unit holds between 5 and 6 g of 

coffee powder. This means that two cups can be prepared at the 

same time in just one brewing operation. Intelligent electronics 

adjust the pre-brew water volume, the degree of compression and 

brew time to suit the fineness and the amount of coffee powder.
