Over 5,100 foster homes across the state<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Wisconsin</strong> care for almost 8,000 foster<br />
children each year. There is an ongoing<br />
need for foster parents, especially those<br />
who can care for sibling groups, teenagers,<br />
<strong>and</strong> children with disabilities.<br />

<strong>Lutheran</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Services</strong> (LSS)<br />
Therapeutic <strong>Foster</strong> Parents provide<br />
nurturing support, love, <strong>and</strong> security for<br />
children <strong>and</strong> teens. The program is a<br />
powerful <strong>and</strong> unique model <strong>of</strong> care that<br />
provides specialized services to children<br />
<strong>and</strong> adolescents who have:<br />
* Mental Illness<br />
* Behavioral Disorders<br />
* Family Issues<br />
* Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Issues<br />
* Developmental Disabilities<br />
* Other Challenges<br />
<strong>Foster</strong> families open their hearts <strong>and</strong><br />
homes to children <strong>and</strong> teens requiring<br />
placement on a short or long-term basis.<br />
The children we place have traumatic<br />
histories <strong>and</strong> are in need <strong>of</strong> therapeutic<br />
foster parents to provide a home with<br />
guidance, structure, patience <strong>and</strong><br />
underst<strong>and</strong>ing. We are in search <strong>of</strong> parents<br />
<strong>of</strong> all races, ages <strong>and</strong> denominations who<br />
want to share their strength, courage, <strong>and</strong><br />
values with these children.<br />
Our program also has opportunities for<br />
respite providers who lend support to foster<br />
parents.<br />

Who Qualifies to be a<br />
<strong>Foster</strong> Parent?<br />
Therapeutic foster parents can be<br />
married, single or non-marital partners,<br />
home-owners or renters, parents or<br />
gr<strong>and</strong>parents, employed or retired.<br />
<strong>Foster</strong> parents for LSS must be at least 21<br />
years old <strong>and</strong> meet three <strong>of</strong> the following<br />
criteria:<br />
* High school graduate or equivalent<br />
* Five years <strong>of</strong> experience parenting<br />
or working with children<br />
* Previous experience as a foster<br />
parent<br />
* Previous experience as a respite<br />
care provider to a foster family<br />
* Work or personal experience
