The annual CIE Writing Contest celebrates works of creative and essay writing that appeal
to a larger student population. Moderated by a panel of judges, works are chosen in three
fields: fiction, poetry, and essays. The top three entries in each category will be published
in the CIE Literary Journal, as recognition of the contestant's achievements and as a
collection of model student writings that current CIE students could aspire to produce.
The contest is open to all AD (Associate Degree) and ADF (Associate Degree Foundation)
students of the College of International Education, Hong Kong Baptist University.
This year, there were a total of 53 entries. The judging panel was composed of Dr. Jason
Polley of HKBU's English Department and Mr. Nick O'Connell of St. Paul's
Co-educational College.

All winning entries will be published in the 2011 CIE Literary Journal, which will be
issued at the end of July.
write after being given an opportunity to do so during the creative writing workshops. “It
was difficult to start with. However, as soon as I got the momentum in getting my story, I
started to realize how much fun it was to manipulate characters in a world which is
completely under my control," said Lovedip.
Annie Qurahtulain, an Associate Degree Year 2 (Marketing) student, said, “Endurance is
one of the things I learnt and developed from the writing contest. I could freely use my
imagination in writing fictional stories. My mother and brothers are my sources of
