Mongi A. Abidi

Weston Fulton Professor in

Electrical and Computer Engineering


Dr. Mongi A. Abidi is the Weston Fulton

Professor in the University of Tennessee College of

Engineering’s Department of Electrical and Computer

Engineering.

The award, established by the Robertshaw Controls

Company, honors UT graduate Weston Miller Fulton,

who invented the Sylphon bellows mechanism, and

recognizes superior classroom and research skills.

Abidi directs the Imaging, Robotics and Intelligent

Systems (IRIS) Laboratory, conducting research in 3D

imaging. Since 1986, he has acted as either principal

or co-principal investigator for research contracts

Abidi is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the Order of the

Engineer and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic

Engineering. Among his many awards are the

Science Alliance Faculty Award, the Brooks Distinguished

Professor Award and the Chancellor’s Award

for Research and Creative Achievement.

He received his Principal Engineering degree in

electrical engineering from the National Engineering

School of Tunis, Tunisia, and his M.S. and Ph.D.

degrees from the University of Tennessee.
